Thousands of school and university students have joined a mass fare-dodging protest in Chile, flooding into metro stations in the country’s capital to vault turnstiles and vandalise equipment amid simmering unrest over the rising cost of living.

The campaign erupted when secondary school students began to jump barriers in groups following a fare rise on 6 October, which put Santiago’s metro among the most expensive in Latin America at 830 pesos ($1.17) during the rush hour. Bus prices also climbed as part of the changes.
As a Chilean dude and, more than that, as a Santiaguinian dude, I must say this is the domino effect of a series of mistakes made by the actual govenment of Sebastian Piñera (from left-wing) that only enraged most of the people, and the fare rise is the straw that broke the camel's back. And I personally support this, even when I can't get nothing more by my side. But yeah, the situation in situ is very cathastrophic and it was about time people go against the unfair law here in Chile.

I got mostly Chilean news about this (all in Spanish), but The Guardian made a most complete analysis in English (where I got the first lines):
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/oct/18/chile-students-mass-fare-dodging-expands-into-city-wide-protest

Spoiler: In Spanish (click to see content)

PS: As a "related" note, Joker movie was released in October 3 here in Chile, and the Metro's fare rise was made in October 6... and there're some manifestants with clown masks, a couple of graffities as "we are all clowns" and this Facebook event. Coincidence?? Who knows... (personally I don't think so)

Update:
Since 0:00, the "President" (sorry, I can't considereate that f*cking clown as one) decreted state of siege/emergency in whole Santiago and in some other states. Yeah, the military is in the streets ready to shoot down citizens if they try to make something. This was seen twice: first after the 2010 earthquake (here with the purpose to help) and... after the 1973 coup d' etat made by Augusto Pinochet

People keeps manifesting by "cacerolazos" since yesterday at night and also today in the morning, apart of the incidents in the streets. The parody of all of this is: the left-wing gained the past elections by using the propaganda of "no more right-wing or we'll become a new Venezuela" (nicknamed as "Chilezuela"), and well...

Again, I got mostly news in Spanish, but I found some in English so all of you know what's happens in Chile right now:
