And also old mortal kombat characters that keep changing palletes ingame i kept seeing a subzero turning into reptile or scorpion XD

Wouldn't call them runnign gags unless they were done on an often basis. I don't remember people joking about Gay Thingamibob or Kazmer's old outdated MK stuff.

Mugen tourneys were a running gag because, in the end, they were less tournaments and more "wanking to AI patchers you liked/wanking to characters with hard AI you liked" and were dominated by Muteki's GG stuff, Last Blade stuff by that one guy whose name escapes me and Neat Unsou's DAte. They were basically "fuck you I win" buttons for all involved and it got pretty boring fast.

This from someone who admittedly did take part in a few tourneys back when I was a naive prat. Mea culpa.

I've only ever done one tournament.  It may not be much, but at least it finished.

Funny part is that after the tourney finished, DBK got updated and he could actually beat Maxime now.  I thought about doing a rematch, but then DBK got updated again with a stun system that Maxime took advantage of.  So much for that, then.
