Title basically. What are some ways to create fx (other than literally draw them obviously). I know After Effects can be used but I feel like that only works for certain types. For a better idea, think general fighting game fx

I'd be open to some tutorials or websites that specialize in this stuff (as i know none)

thanks

@Genesis: I searched under "game vfx" on deviantART, and found this guy called Jason Keyser, who may be of interest to you, regarding game VFX:

Keyser's Pineterest, with VFX references, both 2D and 3D

Keyser's YouTube channel, with tutorials for VFX

This is the best I can find, and Keyser apparently uses Flash. Maybe not what you wanted (I see you mentioned After Effects), but when resources are slim, I guess you might as well go with whatever you can scrounge. Hope this helps a little, if not much. :)
This is a generic forum signature.

The ParticleIllusion presets are a go-to resource for flashy MUGEN FX and maybe more reserved stuff if you play with the particle parameters

Failing that I think game engines like Unity/UE have a lot of particle packs available you can possibly make use of or transform in some way
