How can I disable layers in Mame?

I'm trying to create stages from the CPSIII games. I saw one hacked version of mame where you could disable layers, but it could only be run from the command line. I have no fucking clue how to use that. Is there any other way to do this?

yes, hack teh visual version, mame32p.

really, it will be much easier and useful to just learn how to use command line programs, that way you can hack into other people's computers with telnet, not to mention that there are a good amount of good programs that use the command line.

When I try to run it from the command prompt, nothing happens. I type Mame.exe, and I tried C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\mame.exe, nothing happened. That's what I found when I searched google. The only program I can open is Notepad. I just type notepad.exe, and it opens. I'm a total n00b at this. Can anyone help me out?

You're trying to run it from your documents and settings folder

What drive is it kept on. For eg, mine is on H: within the nebulacps3 folder so my commands are

H:
cd nebulacps3
mame warzard

Moving to general help as we seem to need to teach you DOS.

Might as well show me some DOS stuff. I know a few command lines like, cls, cd, cd.., exit.
But I'd like to know more.
