He's also had Neo-Geo on his hat, and he had a plain white hat in his RB2 and RBS artwork. It's just a style choice. Sometimes he has writing, sometimes he doesn't.
Or a metal plate in Obari's anime.I could sweat he also had one that said "The King Of Fighters", or maybe not and I'm just delusional due lack of sleep.

They probablyjust started having it blanko they could get away with not having to write something in the sprite cap and have it look reversed when he faces a different direction.Then again, I don't think they bothered with it either in FFWA or the Maximum Impact games...

The storyline had them clone kyo, kyo 1 played like punchy kyo, kyo 2 played like fireball kyo, iori and kyo with white jacket were hidden characters.
