You're probably not going to find many FGC opinions on a Mugen forum but oh well.

You already made a similar thread didnt you? Many people here dont think db budokai is even that good of a fighting game itself let alone a dragonball fighting game so its useless to ask here.

I for one dont like it at all, its stiff and the gameplay is slow.

The FGC scoffs and laughs at the Budokai series and other fighters based on anime and then goes back to playing Marvel

Out of all DBZ games DBZ Hyperdimension is the best.

The worst one would have to be the PS1 game DBZ Ultimate Battle 22.

Super big roster that's meant to be balanced based on how strong characters are in canon. Gameplay is also rather mindless and busted too. Yeah, those games aren't deemed competitive for good reason.

I like the Budokai series games, the only one I'm missing is Burst Limit.
They could have done far better with the last PS2 installment (Infinite World), but the minigames are nice so it's partially excused.
I still stand by my old words:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

Super big roster...
I don't know if you're talking about the Budokai series or rgveda99's post, but in case you're talking about Budokai the rosters aren't really big.
Now compare any Budokai roster with Tenkaichi 3, now that is big! In that game the characters's combos feel repetitive too.
I can't deny that Budokai might feel like that, it is but to a lesser extent.
...that's meant to be balanced based on how strong characters are in canon...
I would stop at balanced. It's not like Omega Shenron always beats Saibamen or Cell Jr, or Goku always beats Krillin, you can have the chance to win regardless of the character you're using (like in any other game...)
...
Saibamen always beat Yamcha with Self Destruction, but that's the only case of real accuracy to the canon. They could have done without that though.

Gameplay is also rather mindless and busted too.
I can't see how the gameplay is "mindless and busted"; you may see absurd combos in Youtube videos involving juggles, but you can also teleport and start your combo when you have the meter, sometimes you can enjoy real DBZ fight scenes like teleports after teleports, beam clashes, rushes.

There's no high/low mixup and no throws.  That by its very definition is busted.  If you played these games "optimally" you would just be running out the clock.  I mean, thread didn't ask for opinions in competitive context.

I was referring to the series as a whole, Tenkaichi included. Budokai 3 does have a small niche.

I don't remember the series all that much tbh. What I do know is that CC2 games are made with fanservice being prioritized substantially over competitive longevity, ASB was the closest they tried to balance the two.

It simply strays too far from the conventional fighting game, which would be fine if the mechanics were particularly crafted and refined for versus play. They're not.

TBH the Budokai and BT series is overshadowed by the Supersonic Warriors games for me. They were easier to learn, and as a result, had more fun factor., competition notwithstanding.

ASB, CC2, what are you talking about?
We're talking about the Budokai series (Budokai 1/2/3/Infinite World, Shin Budokai 1/2 and Burst Limit), last time I checked they were developed by Dimps, Atari and Bandai.

It simply strays too far from the conventional fighting game, which would be fine if the mechanics were particularly crafted and refined for versus play. They're not.

Forgot about the arcade game too.

It was good. I only played the 2nd game in the arcade. AI was tough.  I only played this like may be 2 or 3 times as it was competing with XvsSF that time. The game was rare in the arcades too. Almost as rare as Asura Busters.

If only the 3d DB fighting games had similar gameplay to this.

Oh wow, wrong people.

Not much sense arguing now that I look rather dumb, but I will say that Budokai was meant to appeal to a consumer crowd, moreso than the typical arcade fighter. Naturally it meant that concessions had to be made to the gameplay, making it less appealing to the competitive crowd. Doesn't help that it's simply too different.

Things I liked about the Budokai series:

1) Cell absorbing Krillin by mistake in one scenario and stuck dealing with it (Budokai 1)
2) If you picked someone small like Krillin or Gohan, tons of attacks from bigger characters whiffed (Budokai 1)
3) Tenshinhan and Yamcha doing the fusion dance and SUCCEEDING (Budokai 2)
4) Goku and Mr. Satan fusing with Potara earrings (Budokai 2)
5) The soundtrack for the story mode had the best song to score Planet Namek's destruction (Budokai 2)
6) You could play as Goku from Dragon Ball (Budokai 3)
7) That opening sequence gave me a fanboy aneurysm (Budokai 3)

Notice how only one of them is about gameplay, and it's about the engine being broken!

I still have to understand what ASB and CC2 mean.
Well, for CC2 maybe you mean CyberConnect2, but for ASB I can't find anything.

... I imagined you were talking about that, but I hoped you weren't.

How is that broken?
If the attacks don't hit the enemy because of their size, it's only natural they whiff.

At post below:
If a character is small enough that EVERY single one of your standing attacks completely fly over their head, you have a problem.
Who said that 'every' attack whiffs?
No reasonable character in any actual serious fighting game has ever been like that.  Not even Iggy
If it doesn't have the Stand activated some attacks don't hit it.
