for some reason i thought it would be an interesting discussion since there's a lot more similarities i'm still not aware of. and yeah i know a lot of them are intentional, but i doubt this is:



mukuro there and wallace from nightmare creatures 2. it just sorta hit me last night, they have the same stringy spots of hair, the same face bandages, and they're both fucking crazy. again i doubt that wallace was really inspired by mukuro, but hey. there is a chance i guess.

i don't really have any other ones that aren't immediately obvious, but i'm interested in what else is out there. funnily enough while i'm at it, wolf from battle k-road isn't based off of slyvester stallone, but an actual sambo martial artist with the last name of wolf, but i can't remember his actual name. all i know is the character may or may not be meant to be him.

so yeah, anything else?

I do have to agree with Titiln here. Without screenshots, there's really no point in posting an example.

I mean, I do know the characters, so I have no problem in knowing your examples, but the fun part is to see it, not read it.

got it. and if you would, please try harder than 'this sumo guy looks like this other sumo guy' and 'this ninja looks like this other ninja', they're archetypes that all look identical and they're pretty obvious

amiba from hokuto no ken when he roids out / wyler from art of fighting 3. as a lot of characters were inspired from hnk, i have no doubt this was intentional. they're also both kind of off their rocker.


heart heat harn from battle monsters, joker from super fighter, and karnov. i just find it interesting this look is kinda shared with these three. notice the egyptian choker thing karnov and harn have, joker and harn have the same shorts, they're all shirtless and wear the pointed boots. most likely a coincidence but still kinda amusing


baraka and count orlok. now i know this isn't an accident. because baraka's mask is really just a count orlok mask but with press-on nails stuck to the mouth.


kagekiyo from genpei toma den and musashi/conbon from street fighter 4 for the nes (the REAL one thank you!). seeing how sf4 is a bootleg that takes some materials from other games, it's not very unlikely they modeled musashi off of kagekiyo. they do stuff like that, y'know.


lastly the wolf comparison i was talking about. 'wolf' here is based off of the guy there, who is an mma fighter by the name of 'volk han', which means 'wolf king'. he's one of the most famous sambo martial artists in russia, which happens to be k-road wolf's fighting style as well. although it isn't immediately obvious just looking at them.

i'll fetch some more when i think of better ones

....anyway yeah they do seem a bit like the stormtroopers now that i think about it (or general 'trooper' characters, i don't actually know all that much about star wars n' such)

A bit more obvious one would Heidern and Colonel from HNK.

billy two moons from tattoo assassins. now i know most people, even maybe some of you, are instantly going 'that guy was just a lame freakin rip-off of nightwolf'

well....no. for one, tattoo assassins was done BEFORE mortal kombat 3. in fact i'm actually really suspicious of mk3 ripping tattoo assassins off instead, but forget about that for a moment

billy two moons is actually pretty much a thinly veiled parody of tom laughlin's role as 'billy jack'



they're both pretty much defined by 'totally white guy playing native american', and they're...both sort of vigilantes who the cops want dead. i'll think of some more later cuz i forgot this one before

kim kaphwan and ji jan-Jae i can't find a young ji jan jae picture all i can find are his older version and some korean metro sexual actors.

makoto from sf3/4 and shun from sfzero movie. when i first saw shun i thought he was makoto as a child.

samus and nina williams. roy(rival school) and terry (garou) , nash and that metal slug guy.

Richard Wellington from Phoenix Wright: Justice for All and JJBA's Noriaki Kakyoin. I always thought the facial structure and haircut made those two look pretty similar. Interestingly, personality-wise Wellington is an asshole like Rubber Soul, just nowhere near as creepy.

Kyosuke personallity is pretty different than Iori, perhaps the clothing may look a like, tough.
Mukuru appears to be based in Makoto Shishio from Rurouni Kenshin as both are burned assassins, though Mukuru is mainly insane and was revived by some force if I'm not mistaken.

Btw, I heard a rumor that Nobuhiro Watsuki sued SNK for copying his designs, but I bet it's a lie.
Since he is a fan of SNK considering his commentary in several issues of Rurouni Kenshin.
Btw, Shizumaru reminds a character of Rurouni Kenshin as Watsuki pointed out.

This one was probably intentional on the developer's part, but I can't read moonrunes to confirm this.
This dude from Akatsuki Blitzkampf, named Sai:

Has a design which keeps making me think of Alucard, when he's got the snazzy suit going:


Both being smug pricks, probably vampires (Sai's level 3 drains health), and having a fondness for red liquids really doesn't help disassociate the two. As said, though, I think it was intentional.

I think World Heroes predated Mortal Kombat.

Speaking of which, Johnny Cage also shares Bruce Lee's heritage. Being a movie star, learning June Keet Do, using the nunchaku, mutliple-hit combo attacks, etc.

And the only fighting game character I found was
Blanka and Whoever that guy is


In my previous post I found characters that were inspired by the Legendary Martial Artist/Actor Bruce Lee.
I chose Fei Long and Law because both pay homage to his life Fei Long's ending Students are seen learning his style and his statue is een on the back almost a reference to Enter The Dragon or the tribute Movie Dragon- A Bruce Lee Story. Law fighting style is almost similar to him since he he dosent use techniques like flaming Kick which Fei Long had.
Others Inspirations include Jann Lee (DOA) K'Dragon (Korean in reality) (World Heroes) Liu Kang (MK).And Kenshiro from Hakuto No Ken (he is mimicking his voice and his stance is very similar to Bruce's Fighting Form).
 
Johnny Cage is pretty much inspired from Jean Claude Van Damme. He does share most of Lee's fighting heritage.

i think the whole bruce lee influence thing is painfully obvious by now

dagarl from hokuto no ken and hyo imawano from rival schools. both have white-haired ponytails, red soldier-esque outfit, long black boots, golden shoulder pads. if this is coincidence, it's one hell of a goddamn coincidence

hyo's ending is also like a less...awful version of the way dagarl suffers; hyo just gets a really bad headache for the rest of his life, while the latter gets hit with a pressure point that makes him feel all sorts of horrific pain for the rest of his life, non-stop. fun

as soon as i post something else i'm gonna remember somebody else i forgot

But to be fair I really don't know much lore about HnK, Rival Schools, or Gundam so I could be stupid. I also would post Dan Hibiki ones, but I'm sure everyone knows those by now.

The only thing common about Heidern,Brocken& Bison is that They were an army general out fit other wise all three are different from one another. Their fighting styles  and vice versa.
Han Daehan from Ehrgiez was a spinoff to Tekken's Howarang




Godhand (Ken Mishima)resembles both Kazuya and Jin

malphas from groove on fight (summoned by bristol-d) and kuja from battle monsters (last two pics). maybe kuja was based off of malphas since he's apparently something from the book of satanism, but who knows, they're both birdmen so it's somewhat interchangeable


famous wrestler bruiser brody and fighter's history's marstorious. this one is almost certainly intentional, i'd assume

I have reason to believe that Ragna and Jin of Blazblue are at least partially inspired by Dante and Vergil.  Aside from the whole rivalry brother thing, Ragna is the hero with red and black, wielding a broadsword of sorts, while Jin is the more antagonistic of the two clad in blue, wielding a katana.  Furthermore Jin, like Vergil, went on to become a soul inside a creepy shell of armor with a gigantic sword and a deep, echoing voice.  And finally, try swapping their hairstyles.  Go on, try it in your head.

Fun fact, there's a piece of artwork by Blazblue's official artists of Ragna holding a sword that is unmistakably Dante's Rebellion.  Coincidencially, Rebellion is also the name of Ragna's theme music.  Only somewhat related, but one of Noel's aerial drive attacks is frame for frame the same as Dante's air shower with ebony and ivory from DMC3's gunslinger style.

I suposse that's a joke post because guilty gear (1998) predates devil may cry (2001) horribly.

Pepsi man is in fighting vipers. it was on the sega saturn, and playstation 2 apparently
Pepsiman: the Japanese mascot of Pepsi who only appears in the Japanese Sega Saturn version of the game as an unlockable character. He was removed from the US and PAL releases.

2. Choi and Freddy the only thing that is common is their claws and and the baddass looks they have.

SNk Ended the 2nd arc of KOF series with this character K9999 NBut He had takinen alot of of stuff from Akira's Tetsuo. So he got replaced by Nameless.



5. Sabretooth and Silber (He has few of Akuma's attributes)
Well take a look? His outfit matches at some point.



6. Hanzou and Hanzo
Both have pretty much same stuff and latter one is based on the Samurai Showdown's iga clan.



Not to mention K Dragon the first Inspiration of Bruce lee followed up by Fei Long, Marshall and Forest Law.However the guy was from Korea.

I'm not going to post any pictures because I'm not robbing anyone of their bandwidth, so you're just gonna have to go google the shit yourself.

-Kain R. Heinlein (Garou: Mark of the Wolves) and Shin (Hokuto No Ken): This one is painfully obvious.  They have the exact same haircut, and facial structure, and their attire is somewhat similar but not really.  The real kicker comes from their backstories, where they are driven to madness and egomania due to tragedies involving a woman they care about.  And of course, Kenshiro fights Shin in a palace built to honor himself and Yuria.  And where do you fight Kain at the end of Garou?  A palace built to honor himself and Marie.

-Sagat (Street Fighter) and Lee Sin (League of Legends): More specifically, the latter, a blind warrior monk who wears cloth over his eyes, has a purchasable skin that makes him look exactly like Sagat in his Street Fighter 2 colors, with an "eyepatch" over his eyes.  He also has a pretty strong resemblance to Kenshi from Mortal Kombat.

-Akuma (Street Fighter) and Gundari (Yu-Gi-Oh): I have no clue if this is intentional or not, but this relatively obscure and not very useful Yu-Gi-Oh monster certainly looks a hell of a lot like Akuma, down to the facial structure and color scheme.

-Shiki (Samurai Shodown) and Rei Ayanami (NGE): I believe this one was stated to be intentional, the hair and personalities are too similar to be otherwise.  Rei herself has also had a lot of imitators come and go over the years.

-Bryan Fury (Tekken) and Akihiko Sanada (Persona 4 Arena): When Akihiko debuted in Persona 3 he didn't look much like Bryan, but his redesign in Arena definitely does.  The hair, pants, gloves, combat boots and body build are all dead ringers for Bryan's, the only differences being Akihiko's skin tone and facial structure are quite different.

-Marstorious (Karnov's Revenge) and Bruiser Brody (Pro wrestling): I am not sure if this was already posted or not, but it's definitely an obvious one if you're familiar with Brody.  Mars even has the ankle fur things that Brody was known for incorporating into his attire.

this 'charles de guise' fellow reminds me a lot of murakumo from akatsuki blitzkampf



they couldn't be farther apart in terms of personality, storyline and general fighting style (sans the sword) but their appearance is pretty alarmingly close
