hi to all,

i post in a new 3d my work on sagat new kicks. I used cvs joe higashi base.

I think they're more muay thai accurate.

sorry for the poor quality.

Here you are a test of new kicks of sagat.
the char is from divinewolf (obviously i've asked its permission to edit).
since i'm not a coder and i'm not able to add a complete new move, i've edited low and high punches to add the 2nd hit to show you the "slash" version of the 2 kicks:

there are still some palettes/ colors problem, but i'd like to show you my progress so far.



what do you think?

The animations in here have a really nice flow. Only thing it lacks now would be polishing the shading and it would be pretty much finished.

well if you check carefully, there are some very little differences, so it's not completely the same, btw even in the classic kicks you'll find they used the same upper sprites (except for the high one).. ;)

anyway i'll see if i can do something. ;)

I can actually see these kicks as an alternate kick set for Sagat or even used for a Maxed out Tiger raid, like he would start with a crouch kick, then the new low to med to high kick with a spin with the raid finish.

then, based on the var1 low kick, i've prepared 1 new low kick (SVC inpired):

low kick closed (not the same var1):



low kick wider:



in my mind, we could keep all 3 low kicks.

in normal condition standard low kick (maybe i prefer var1).

when the opponent is near the closed version.

then forward+lk will perform wider version.

what do you think? :) :)

A good part of those punches could use one or two more frames to transition better. The hook punch looks pretty good, though.

Good, but the axis is bit wrong IMO, and the motion could be a bit faster.





The same problem. The axis and the speed.





Fix the axis a bit. Others are fine. Headkick would be slow and powerful move, so I shouldn't be faster than this. Speed is just good.





Fine. A combination like mid-low-low, mid-mid-high can be become valid with additional keyboard input, like "HoldUp", "HoldDown"





Great.



Newer kicks









I think the older ones are better, but you can use the both of them, the older, and the newer.





Perfect.





Is there any difference? Making more difference will be better.





Too slow.





Not smooth. Needs more sprites.





Looks fine, but nothing differs from the upper one.

Is finding MUGEN to be more enjoyable to play when you're not wearing clothes an underrated opinion?

Thanks for your critics, i have lot of things to learn, it's just a week that i've start this new "editing" thing, i'm a newbie. ;)

i don't know what you mean.

about the timing i think it's quite difficult, maybe later i'll post the single sprites so you can suggest me which one to extend and which one to shorten.

I only think that the leg, when being extended forward, could look less still-- as in, move it a bit in the second frame of the impact, or something like that.

The animation still has a great flow to it, though.

thanks man, i've checked and, compared to cvs joe higashi i have, there are no missing sprites.

anyway, small tweaks on some details in several sprites and timing (exactly the cvs joe ones):



and the "strong" version (little changes in timings only):



which you prefer?

i think these are the definitive versions of my teep kick (no more tweaks if you agree), i'll go on with the next new move. ;) ;)

The animations look good to me, especially the second one, but the shading doesn't work. It doesn't make sense for the raised leg to stay that dark. Just look at the other kicks to see what it should look like.

All of the animations look great. Obviously they need a lot more detail(s). Just minor things that will polish the character's look.
Like the first and last frame of the Teep Kick, his shorts seem tight to his leg.
The wrapped look of his legs. Just the small stuff.
Overall they look pretty good.

hello, i'm back, i changed my mind, i wanted to try to completely edit the cvs joe's low kick to find out how it could look like on sagat.

here you are the result.



i'm not sure if continue to completely edit the cvs joe moves into sagat (i think that cvs joe is the most accurate muay thai char, speaking about sprites and flow of the animations) or to continue with my previous edits (of course not so good like these last two - teep kick and low kick).

The differences really are night and day, between the new and the old one. Without a doubt, the new one looks much better, given that you've managed to give it a much natural flow. I just love how smooth you managed to make the animation as well. Good work.

i know it's not so good like the previous ones, but unfortunately the base sprite of adon are very few, i think some more sprite would needed to be more flow..

It doesnt look right in my opinion. It almost looks like his leg would be dislocated from his hip to be able to kick like that.
You may be able to make it flow right if the retracting has a different angle. To have the kick retract the same way it was kicked out look funky to me.

That move will be extremely difficult to get right without the right amount of frames and a good sense of perspective.
From what i see the motion includes more rotation of the torso and the right (our left) leg, the kicking leg should bend a little more towards our direction and not only towards the ground and these problems are all coming from the sixth frame. In my opinion that last "push" should follow the trajectory given by the 3rd, the 4th and 5th frame.
This animation is really tough but if you'll get it right it will be amazing!

Shao's stance is closer to a Muay Thai stance, your stance looks more like a wrestler who is looking to shoot. That stance is too wide, just think about balance. You couldn't launch proper kicks or even check kicks with that stance.

Examples:



It's all the same in the end, matter and motion, simple or complex. No difference, finally. Death, transfiguration. Ashes to ashes and slime to slime, amen.

in muay thai there are at least 2 kind of stances, attacking and defendig one.

and anyway, (unfortunately just like 99% of people that think about muay thai), that kind of stance is incorrect.
in the right way to stay in "stance", the forearms don't have to go up and down, but slightly forward and back.
at least this is the way my kruu (master) teached us. ;) ;)

and that's the way i tried to reproduce with my sagat. ;) ;)

No offense but what you animated looks nothing like anything in any of the examples you posted. Stance is still too wide, even by what the examples you posted state. Also, that right leg position looks very unnatural but we can agree to disagree. I'd love to see some one with that stance in front of me cause i wouldnt have to worry about any power coming from a leg kick.

Definetely better, than original one. But I think his left arm would be better for backward walk. Still, I want to see your b.walk version first.

Totally awesome!!

But if you see my sprite you'll notice i've resized his leg, i dunno why but i felt those legs were a bit wide and big. Think about the upper body, it's a totally CVS meanwhile the lower part is a SFA "resized".

Totally awesome!!

But if you see my sprite you'll notice i've resized his leg, i dunno why but i felt those legs were a bit wide and big. Think about the upper body, it's a totally CVS meanwhile the lower part is a SFA "resized".

i'm not sure if i agree with you, i think that the proportions between legs and arms are slightly more "natural" in my version, no offence but in your one the legs seems too small.. points of view.. ;) ;) ;)

I honestly prefer Shao's legs for Sagat. The legs in your stance look a little too generic for me to like it.

i just overall like shao's better, since he edited the shading to be cvs-accurate, but your anim is fine as well, maybe combine the two? :)

I think the extra frame is part of the back spin where the foot is still out front? Maybe make it a little bit blurred or add a streak effect to it?
But as it is, the first one looks faster and smoother

in the slash kick i've use my "new mid kick" (that has some joe parts as ispiration in the legs) and several adon's part (obviously resized) for the arms and the torso. ;) ;)

Also the shading is totally different from Sagat's (it's Joe's shading, of course) and that clashes a lot with the sprites Sagat has.
He also moves the arms too much when recovering/turning to stand position.

You didn't have this problem on the FIRST original anim of it. Try to look at this as a reference.

When his arm comes down at the full kick, you have him raise both of his arms as he twists.
Keep his right arm flat as he turns and ends. The arms going up with the hands out like that look like a tech-hit kind of snap back pose. Like he's breaking free of a grab or a guard crush or something.
Another big problem is that he opens and closes his fists a few times. Stick with one or the other, or just switch one time.

maybe i've understood what you mean, but it's quite difficult for me to mod it.. i'm mainly able to do "frankensprites", and that arm should be drawn from 0.. :( :( :( anyway i'll try..

No, I wasn't about that. Try to keep his right arm down all over anim, like in original one.

Looks better imo, much more realistic and less stiff :)

Took a closer look at the animation, it seems like his eyepatch is of the wrong color before and during the kick, instead of it being black it looks like it has the same color shade as his skin...

Also it looks like you forgot to put his chest scar in these animations?

Tested him out.
Looks beautiful. But on MY personal oppinion as a knockdown kick must be not F+LK, but F+HK.
And to fix a such issues like misaligned sparks.

sparkxy = -10 + 0 * (var(35) := 55), var(36) := -82
See this? Look at the values of var(35) and var(36).
-Number os var(35)= X position of spark.
-Number of var(36)= Y position of spark.
It's easy, cause it works with the same way. Just don't touch anything but values.
