To lose the edit the button (without the contributor group losing it as a whole) he would need to be added to another member group, it doesn't need to be contributor and you can't see what the group is if they don't want, he doesn't need to lose the purple star either. Also could have something to do with the project area that he mods.

it's possible to remove editing permissions in smf, which is probably what happened here instead of a forum bug or some other form of twisted speculation!

Yep. But I've indeed seen some people lose priviledges by mistake around here sometimes...

You can't edit your posts, Jesuszilla. I don't know if it's still intentional. You'll have to ask Iced. Don't go on a double posting rampage, though.

It's not a forum bug.
