MvC2 Charlie Released 9/4/2014

Finally finished Charlie. Credits to REDHOT for the sprites since this one's based off his Charlie and Mouser for the MvC2 coding.




Specials
Sonic Boom: ~15$B, $F, x/y/z (Projectile speed is determined by punch button used)
Somersault Kick: ~15$D, $U, a/b/c (His jump is determined by kick button used. Can be done in air too)
Moonsault Slash: ~U,UF,F,a/b/c (Done in air only)

Grabs
1. hold forward+z (can also be done in air)
2. hold forward+c

Hypers (All required 1000 power)
Sonic Break: ~D,DF,F,2 punches (press any of the punch buttons after the 3rd wave to send more. You can launch up to a maximum of 5 waves of projectiles)
Crossfire Blitz: ~D,DF,F,2 kicks
Somersault Justice: ~D,DB,B,2 kicks

MvC2 is four buttons for the attacks + two for the assist.
You're using six.

He shouldn't connect light punch with light kick, medium punch with medium kick.
His attacks follow a pattern of light-medium-strong (or medium-strong, or light-strong). This isn't for all MvC2 characters though.
The first two (light and medium) should be done with the same button:
"a" is light kick and if it connects medium kick;
"b" is strong kick;
"x" is light punch and if it connects medium punch;
"y" is strong punch.
"c" is for the first assist", "z" is for the second assist; "c"+"z" is the team attack.



You're also missing a special move that you can do in air with U,UF,F, any kick.



Missing required sprites + debug flood.



He shouldn't be able to do the Somersault kick in air.



You can't continue the Sonic Break with the additional two series of Sonic Booms (the ones where he throws kicks for them).



Why are the Collision boxes so detailed (and so many)?

Is finding MUGEN to be more enjoyable to play when you're not wearing clothes an underrated opinion?

Guile could do so in MvC2. I don't see why Charlie is any different.

Charlie can't in MVC2, however. (Or any Vs. Game, for that Matter)

Also in MVC2 Charlie has a command move that's Down + Light Kick in the air, it's a knee. it's not here either.

while I agree with Alex on most points, I DON'T think it's necessary to have 4 buttons for MVC2 character, true, it's not TRUE MVC2 Style, but It's Mugen and it's not like you need the assist buttons, (Which is why I think it was done in the first place) If you're really gonna do it, make it a var we can change to have 6 buttons, like Kamikaze's Character's.

Well, I do my best to make the character be as close to MvC2 as possible. If Charlie can't really do an air Flash Kick in the original then this is an extra treat to make him different than the actual MvC2 one. I know all MvC2 characters have 4 buttons originally but I feel more comfortable with 6 buttons since I grew to play the MvC2 characters in 6 button control in MUGEN. Remember, this Charlie is based off of REDHOT's MvC2 Charlie and I used mouser's MvC2 source code to make this version. It's not easy for me to convert a character this way unless it's my own character that's not in the original game. Look at my Morrigan. It's based off of hsiethm's Morrigan with mouser's MvC2 source code implemented and I gave her the Lilith Mode hypers and Eternal Slumber as extras since Morrigan couldn't perform them originally in MvC2. Anyway, I'm working on adding Moonsault Slash onto Charlie then I'll update the download link with it. I'll post that said move and give a heads up when I'm done adding the attack and testing it.

IDK. I think things like not being able to do flash kick in the air, His Magic Series (Light-Medium-Hard (AKA "Stronger")),
the Moonsault kick and that command Knee Make him unique.

I'm not calling for full-on Accuracy here, but trying to make it close to source is a good Idea.

  • Why can't I cancel into Somersault Kick? Also, why is the motion D,U+K and not a charge motion?
  • No readme = no credits visible to every downloader.
  • He doesn't have negative edge, which is important for Capcom characters.
  • No dash/superjump mapped to PPP/KKK, which means no wavedashing.
  • config.txt saved in the wrong encoding, so I can't even read the Japanese that was there.
  • CLSNs are awful.
  • The base is quite old and the sprites are misaligned. I think he may actually be missing frames, too.


I can also tell from the horrible CLSNs that this Charlie was probably based on another Charlie before REDHOT's (because they're identical to those found in Charlie in Fraya's DOH, and I believe his Charlie was based on N64Mario's).


You're on the right track, but this still needs a lot more work and polish.


Also speaking of negative edge, I didn't know this until I played just now, but it seems to be a system universal thing in MvC2 that only charge back, forward motions like Sonic Boom have no negative edge whatsoever! Interesting, I wonder why they did that, though?
