Where do you see it?Will the trend of 2011 continue and we see more and more new sequels of popular fighting games like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken, King of Fighters or was it a short lived trend?Let`s seeWe got Soul Calibur V and Street Fighter X Tekken this year already, another BlazBlue update as well. Soon coming is Persona 4: The Arena a 2D fighter based of the Persona rpg series and looking promising. There is also Skullgirls in April, another 2d fighter and for a change a completly new franchise. It is a only downloadable title and well..lets see how good it is.Later this year we see Girl Fight..another only digitally distributed game..3d and looking like a mix of tekken and dead or alive..so far only announced for XB Live (i think) and it doesnt look that good.Between August and November we get Tekken Tag Tournament 2 ,in Summer 2012 we also get the Virtua Fighter 5 update but its only distributed as a download.Sheduled for the August is Dead or Alive 5,and announced as a next gen console game is Tekken X Street Fighter and a Tekken WiiU game.There are also rumors that Darkstalkers 4 is in the works.There is nothing in sight however from SNK..nothing about a new King of Fighters was announced since a good while now, also nothing about sequels of the other SNk series like Samurai Shodown.There are also no signs yet of a new SF,MK or Tekken 7, a lot fighting game series of the past seem to be pretty dead.What do you expect and hope for the fighting game future in 2013 and later? What K.O.D said. Big companies will rarely create a completely new game with unknown characters. Arcsys may be the exception with BlazBlue, but we all know they're going to keep on "updating" it for 10 years now.It costs too much money to develop a new game which you're not sure is going to work, and companies know people want their dream matches and will only buy games with chars they're already familiar with, so crossovers is definitely the new trend.Street Fighter X TekkenDOA5 including a first VF character, which means we're probably not so far from DOA X VF.I can easily forsee future games where big companies work together to develop SF x Tekken x DOA x SC (x SNK maybe) and add new characters every few months through DLC.

Tekken 3d is just a t6 port with young heihachi. With the pretty dead series i didnt mean sf, tekken or mk..thats a misunderstanding. I meant those game series we havent seen sequels for since years now
But the most important ones (SF, KOF, MVC if you want, SC, DOA, VF, Tekken) still live.Yes, series such as Samurai Shodown or Last Blade are dead, but hey, you can't revive everything.RPG is not dead because we haven't seen a Shining Force, Phantasy Star, Valkyrie Profile or Lunar game in years.
guess i am used to itin the past we got one KOF per year ..till 2003. Well KOF XII came out in 2009, KOF XIII one year later in arcades already, now its march 2012 and there is nothing in sight about a new KOF game..its unusual for that series.
how is it unusual to you now when the use of numbered titles began in 2005. why do you think this is necessary. the yearly model might have worked for snk in the 90s but now they have a relatively new title that has a regular tournament following. be realistic
Fighting games will progressively have more and more DLC to the point where the game will feel incomplete without it. Sad but true

And what do you rather not want?greets, gbkThose definitions are hilariously small sighted. tekken team isnt even finished with tekken tag 2, sfxt team has barely finished with their work and are likely to be moved to ds before sf4, its like me claiming "Well sonic/mario is dead, they just released a game and havent announced any sequels!"
SNK already hinted that they will work on one new fighting game, it will be either kof or garou2; it's very probable they are working on it using a small team and thus not announcing anything.

im more worried about the 2D fighting Genre , with Capcom switching to 3D, im fearing that SNK would do the same and would be fallowed by Arc System Works
At this point, it's true that making fighting games in 3D take much less time than in 2D. But hey, SF4 and MVC3 still have a 2D gameplay, they're just using 3D models, so the core of the game stays the same.
Its really a pity there isnt a 3d mugen yet in some form..and yes i know how complicated that would be compared with mugen today
