50 chars? Nice. With Ramza and whatever the catgirl's called that leaves 17 on top of the Duodecim roster.

Ysh'tola.
And that means Gaius will be a shoo-in after all.

I suppose it would be too much to hope for it to reach the One?  I'd really like to give this a try.
Sony Japan is helping with the development of the game, chances are slim to none that this will ever hit a non-Sony system.
where there is a will,there is a way。
Sounds like you're just jealous that Duke Nukem has a bigger dick and gets ALL the bitches.

This still has absolutely nothing to do with Monty Oum.

I'm extremely late to all of this but Ramza being the main makes me really happy. This is looking good.

Main ? He's just playable (well, he most likely is) as far as we know. There's only been one picture of him.

http://www.siliconera.com/2015/04/13/dissidia-final-fantasy-comparison-arcade-playstation-4/
Comparison between arcade and a hypothetical PS4 version, also battle in Midgar stage + a little bit of the Ifrit summon in action.

I think there's a little bit more info there too than in the Gematsu article last week (but it's essentially the same thing). They're pulling all brakes on the 50 characters announcement though, it's "just a goal" and will start at 14. Maaaaaaaan, way to deflate the hype. (also, they say it goes up to FF14, but I'd be surprised if they didn't throw Noctis in)

That's some pure BS right there...

One of Dissidia's biggest issues was it was mainly a MC-Villain squabble and no real other characters to really fill out the roster more(012 got it somewhat with Laguna, Gilgamesh and Prishe...but that's pretty much it as the other characters still feel like pseudo-MCs in their home games too like Tifa). I truly hope they actually add alot more characters that aren't just in your party but is still quintessential characters in their home series(like one of the members of the Turks or Beatrix or Desch from FFIII, etc.) and pseudo villains(like freaking Seymour or Emperor Gestahl(I know I'm fucking up his name) or fucking Vayne(I know he's the actual villain of FFXII but considering Gabranth is the pseudo villain in Dissidia for it since the start...)

I mean damn, they better actually try and fulfill the 50 character promise and fill that shit out.

Well, let's not forget that this is for the arcade and they already said they'll keep updating the game with more characters. The first arcade release will likely be (for us) more of a beta with a quarter of the roster, pretty much, and with the balance updates and as they keep pumping characters into it, we'll eventually reach what will, quite simply, be the console version - with most likely over 40 characters, 50 if it all goes smoothly. Maybe it's the reason they're not sure yet if they'll release it console, too : they want to see how well that works out, but they've actually only barely done a quarter of the roster, and the arcade release is a way to see if they can keep going.
(I can't see any scenario where they decide it's not good enough after all and just drop it and never release it on console, though)
So I guess the only real change for anyone who doesn't live in Japan (and won't be able to play it on arcade anyway) is that we won't get to see all the character reveals until nearly a year after the initial arcade release. At least we won't be left waiting drooling for months over all the awesome characters, it'll be less painful and more gradual, like it's still in development and not released at all, it'll just drag quite a bunch...

most important news for this game yet

http://www.siliconera.com/2015/04/14/dissidia-final-fantasy-may-end-using-team-ninjas-soft-engine-tech/
Quote
“We didn’t think about it at first, but after Taito asked us if we’d like to do it on arcade, we went to check out an arcade center, and thought ‘it could have good affinity with arcades’,”
So it was initially planned for console then ? But then why go and say "we're starting with arcade, we don't know yet if we'll go to console" ? Or does he mean they hadn't even planned to do the game at all and Taito sparked the desire to make it ?

I was going to ask what the Soft Engine is, but obviously that's the boob physics, isn't it

Suddenly interested now.

There are other possible uses for it (flesh being manipulated when strikes connect), but yeah.

also people looking less like dolls when they get grabbed.
Byakko: I don't get enough context to guess whether they mean arcade instead of console, or just working on the project overall.

Yeah Soft Engine wasn't really all about jiggle physics, it was mainly how TN or Hayashi pitched it as. It's mainly making the skin and muscles also look more...full of life for the characters as well.

It can easily also be attuned to other things as you all have stated, they probably just need to tweak the engine for that honestly.

it's just a matter of taking a look at older doa games and how horribly did the bodies distort when characters got grabbed.
