After seeing some of the "MK Projects" pop up on the web, I have been inspired to create my own.

I have messed around with Mugen a tad.  I am not fond of it, however I believe in the right hands it could possibly  create a decent MK fighting game.

I am doing all of the design work, and am designing VS Screens for each character, mainly the characters that do not have VS Screens (MK1-MK2).

I am not opposed to alternate methods.  The UMKT hack of the Sega Genesis version of UMK3 was very successful in my opinion.  My biggest complaint being the quality of the graphics.  Ideally, for my project to be successful to myself, it would have to be an edit of an arcade version of UMK3 to maintain as high a graphical presentation as possible.  This is also available with Mugen... plus I've seen great work with Mugen on stages involving fog and other effects which I am toying around with in my head.

My roster is current at 64 characters.  However I am toying with the idea of possibly 1 more.

I am writing CANON (Or as close to Canon as possible) bios and endings for all characters.

Status 04/22/09:

38/64 bios/endings completed.

7/34 Stage designs completed.

Special Moves wanted: Deciding.  (Sticking close to UMK3/MK Trilogy)

Engine choice: MUGEN.

Goals:

1.) Present a 1st person re-telling at the MK Kharacters similar to MK Deception, telling their side of the story during MK1, MK2, and MK3/T.

2.) Stay true to the spirit of the classic games.  I want it to play identical to UMK3 or MK Trilogy.  Where people who have played those games before can pick this game up and automatically pull off specials and fatalities.

3.) Visually, I'm overhauling most if not all of the stages, but when you see your favorite stage it will be an improvement, and hopefully it will have a nice feeling of nostalgia with just a hint of newness.

4.) It's going to be darker, yet maintaining that MK style.

5.) Trying to mold each character's personality from various sources.  Mainly from the games and some elements of the movies.  Examples: Kano uses some Australian phrases (No "Gidday Mates" or "Shrimp on the Barbie", sorry).  Johnny Cage is pompous, Ermac speaks in "We's and Ours".

What we need:

Help.  And lots of it.

We're going with Mugen, we're going to need some talented Mugen editors.

Going to need some talented artists to take my ideas for stages and see if they can make them even better.

Basically I can't get the project up on my own.  I am going to need a team of talented individuals to bring the project together.  But I am sure that once it is finished it's going to set a new standard for FanMade Mortal Kombat games.  Something that pays tribute to the games that inspired it but yet is something new that will draw people in to play it.

Sounds very good, but if you cant make it by your self you will not be able to release it.

Dont suspect you get help from here. I tried it with my Mortal Kombat 2 project, but in the end your on your own.

Wish you luck and all the best!

I love your idea.

Sometimes As always, ideas are not enough.

It's not really a "project" until you already got the team to work on it, and already something to show from MUGEN engine.

From most of the Mugen Projects I have seen, it seems as if most creators take your approach of skipping the planning stage altogether and just ending up with "whatever".  I'm not taking that approach.  I'm planning everything out that I can.  I'm already working on movelists and getting certain things ready so that all that needs to be done is to put everything together.  I'd do it myself if I could, but since I can't I'd appreciate any help I can get.  It all starts with one person, one idea.

I've made a beta select screen and a few endings just to test out the engine.  Nothing's final yet.  I'm not releasing any pics of endings yet because it would spoil part of the game.

There are some screenshots on my site, most are not "in-game" and are part of the planning stage.  I have a video on the page as well.  There is a lot of information that I just don't feel like revealing yet.

I just want a Mortal Kombat 2 clone, but i am not a mugen programmer ... so i have what men called a "compilation" of all the characters of Mortal Kombat 2 including secret characters (jade etc) and i have all the stages and i made my own MK 2 selection screen.

However ... i need to collect FULL mortal kombat 2 characters with all their fatalities or i need someone who like this idea and want to help me to create the original fatalities and so on from Mortal Kombat 2.

I guess this will be very hard unless you hire someone to do it.

ps: check the mortal kombat 2 subject then you know what i mean: http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=97298.0

I played a little bit of "Lost Secrets" or whatever it was called.  It's sad that the people have such knowledge of the code and made such a sh*tty @ssed game.  I mean it played good but the bios and endings of the secrets characters were just embarrassing.  Not to mention the shadow monk character.  OMG.  If you do find somebody to help you put your game together, I will help you make bios and endings for Smoke, Jade, and Noob Saibot if you want.

Edit: And maybe I could help you come up with Fatalities and Friendships for them as well.

Hi there,

Yes Lost secrets is NOT what i called a full game ... 80% of the fatalties are missing and to be honest ... what is Mortal Kombat without fatalities?

If you want to help me you can make the fatalities for MK2 ... endings, original sounds etc i can make it myself dont worry.

The problem i have i can not make fatalities or program mugen characters ... all other stuff i can do :)

Looks like we're in the same boat.  I tried to take a Street Fighter character and make them play like a Mortal Kombat character just to be testing the engine and I couldn't figure it out, then eventually the game crashed on me so I figured I better find somebody that knows what they're doing with Mugen b/c I don't see a new version of the program coming out anytime soon.

This should be loved to mugen discussion since you dont have any visible progress, a few concept pictures arnt enough.

And, MUGEN isnt very hard, hell, its even easy compared to any other programming language

If its really like this ... why i can develop software, security programs, hacking tools in Visual Basic / Delphi / Cold fusion and i can NOT program MUGEN characters?

I really dont get how you can think it is HARD when you have programming experiece. Besides, no matter what you are learning, always start simple, maybe you are failing because you are starting too big

C'mon, you guys.  No one is persecuting you, but it really seems like you're not even interested in trying.  After years in a number of other programming & scripting languages, I also feel that Mugen was the easiest to learn and one of the most user-friendly to create with.  But often people don't even show any effort.

Look, no one finds this place by accident.  No one is surfing the web, thinking "Gee, I wish I had something to do with my art skills, programming knowlege and free time..."  Everyone here, active contributor or board lurker, is here because they have aweseome ideas about what makes a kick-ass fighting game.  No one here is looking for ideas, no one here is looking for direction, no one here is looking to be told what to do.  I've been through the boards and through the archive, and I defy you to find one project, just one, that reached any stage of playable completion and started with someone saying "I have kewl plan I need somebody to do all the work!"  It just doesn't happen that way.

You can do this.  I know you can.  Hell, navigating this forum is probably harder than Mugen.  But you have to try.  If nothing else, the Guild is excellent at helping people who try.  This place will never connect you to someone who will build your game just because you want them to.

I have tried working with Mugen with unsatisfactory results.  The amount of time and effort it takes to change something seemingly trivial is frustrating.

I WAS learning how the code works when eventually the program just crashed altogether.

I don't have to justify myself, and I don't plan on having arguments on what constitutes "trying" or whether I'm in the wrong location because some people have a different view of the word "project".

Help if you want, help if you can.  And as for "the Guild is excellent at helping people who try" we'll see.  So far it's shown to be less than helpful.  All the help I have received I've had to seek out.

Hopefully I'll have a screen-grab of an early in-game Fighter Selection screen so "DooM"'s interpretation of what constitutes a "Project" will be fulfilled.
