Projectile cancel question

So i'm making a mage or wizard (whatever you want to call it) fighter, and i want to make it possible to cancel out one of his magic attacks early on ex. if he gets hit the projectile is canceled. is there a way to do this? i want the projectile to be able to be canceled by hitting the fighter and only be possible to do for a set amount of time.

yes, the projectile has to be a helper so it can detect it's parent movetype.
