i really can't wrap my head around this preordering games thing, i have no idea why people do it.not only are you encouraging shitty company practices like preorder exclusive content, but you're also paying for something that you're not gonna play immediately, you'll have to wait for it anyways. you also have no idea if its gonna be good or not, best case scenario is you getting a bug ridden game game, worst case scenario is you paying full retail price for a shitty game.so yeah, do you preorder? tell me why do you do it?

I'm really not sure what other answer is needed other than liking the game.Most of the time you'll know what you're getting anyway (preorder stuff and all) and if it'll be good or not. It's not like the 90s where all you had to go off of were magazines and television.

I preorder games i want since digital copies on ps4 allow you to download a couple days in advance so you're literally able to play it a couple hours before they release it in stores, i.e. I preorder tekken 7 and was able to play it on the 1st of june rather than having to drive out to a store and get it
Anyone remember Xenoblade Chronicles in North America?I'm glad I pre-ordered my copy back then since it quickly became hard to find for a decent price.Though with its re-releases, it should be easier to get these days.People in Europe and Japan also had plenty of time to play and review it so I knew I'd enjoy what I was about to play.

You're just starting from the assumption that the game will end up bad or you won't like it. Which is fucking stupid. It actually IS possible to enjoy a game, in which case preordering something that you know you'll buy anyway is just fine.
I preorder most every fighter because I know I'll buy them. And in cases like KOF14 Special Edition I knew no store would actually order copies of it. I was right I never saw that in stores besides the one I preordered. Again, I can only see arguments about digitally preordering. The best I saw for that is you can play it a few hours early sometimes. That's not really a big deal imo :p

I never preorder games, but I do preorder toys, I guess with games you get a lesser risk because the game can be patched if it has flaws not with toys, but the reasons to preorder are more likely scarcity, lower price, and sometime special bonus included with preordered set

I don't. Pre-ordering doesn't suit my lifestyle or spending habits. I only ever buy games at full price unless they are Nintendo games (since they generally don't price drop in a meaningful way), or if it's a company I still like and want to support, or a friend really wants to multiplay it up. Even in these cases I still won't pre-order. I usually wait a year and get it when it's $30-$40 new or longer and grab it for $20. I don't play competitive multiplayer games since they are often short lived titles and are typically missing the fun factor I look for in games, so there's no real incentive for me to get that stuff brand new either.Pre-ordering only makes sense to me if the game has marketing hype, the company indicates a potential struggle to meet demand, and for some reason I don't have the patience to wait for the second release cycle to play some game. If you're a really big fan the price wouldn't really matter especially when one is focused on a particular game.It's why some people invest in mugen which is even more expensive.If one is passionate about a particular thing like a hobby price would mean nothing or a minor obstacle.

I want it on day one, regardless of it will be readily available afterward, the bonuses are awesome and I want them, or because I believe the physical copies will go rare, and I like physical copies whenever I can get them. I barely ever buy digital unless I absolutely know there's no physical copy available. I've even bought foreign copies of games to avoid US digital only.
I pre-order a game when I know that I want the game, I know the game will be good, and know that getting a physical copy of the game would be a great challenge after release since there is such a high demand for it.See, there are sane reasons for pre-ordering a game. It is no different from making a reservation for a hotel or a restaurant when you know that getting a spot will be difficult under normal circumstances.
Ah, about the matter of paying now vs. keeping the money for stuff you can buy now, I don't know where you preorder your games but at the gaming shops in here, I don't pay in advance. I pay when the game is in my hand.
Here you have to put $5 down on a preorder in advance, and the rest is up to you. I usually prefer to pay in full in advance, especially if I have the money now and I'm not sure I will then.
call me a cheap ass douche but i find paying more than 30 dollars for a game to be outrageous. it's partially the reason why i made this thread. i thought because most of you guys seem in an average to humble financial situation, you wouldn't be too different from me.but not all people think the same of course. tbh i enjoy games but not to the point of paying 60$+ on them on either preorder or retail purchase.
60 to 70 which is the usual for a new game of the latest generation is too high, but 30 ? lol yeah, right. You don't have a problem with preorder games waiting until they're released, you have a problem with any game on the current gen waiting a few years until the price is halved.
I only really buy Nintendo games (unless it's a big Fighting Game) so I don't tend to have the luxury of waiting until they lower in price. (as Nintendo game almost never do.)

I mean, 60 for a new game isn't exactly outrageous, in fact it's cheaper than it ever has been. people like to pre-order when they know that the game is going to be good down to the gut. I rarely pre-order games unless I KNOW for a fact it's worth it near the very end like Tekken 7 and KoF XIV. Another reason, specifically for online games, is to play it as much as you can while the game is alive online-wise. Some games are alive for a long ass time but nowadays that's a rarity, injustice 1 died only a couple months into its launch. SFIV might as well be dead at this point.
