Hah, so the confession dial really was more of an interrogation method that was enforced on a Time Lord being tortured, and not a last will. Also, getting Clara killed while trying to teleport the Doctor into that torture device ? Yeah, you bet the Doctor would be the most pissed he's ever been.
With how I don't really like Clara, I'm okay with how they made her leave - from the Doctor's point of view, that is. For where she's going herself, that's... that's a bit completely nuts and insanely over the top. For once, I hope it doesn't lead into more big events and she just vanishes and leave us expecting her to do what she says - eventually return to Gallifrey for good. Ashildr was a horrible character (not badly written or badly played, she's just a horrible person and I don't want to see her again) and Clara was overblown and I really don't want it to lead into a recurrent crazy duo mirroring the Doctor and his companion of the moment.
Other than that... yet more questions left open that didn't actually get any answer / didn't get resolved (the hybrid, Ashildr, the Confession Dial that was made out as a big thing and wasn't relevant in itself because it really contained nothing of importance and it failed its purpose, what time loop caused it to pop up in the first episode after being created in the last, edit - oh and apparently the Doctor is rumored to have a human parent because wtf, and so on), much like in the Matt Smith run (the name of the Doctor ! Death in Trenzalore ! The Time War that we never really saw much of ! etc.) but oh well, that doesn't stop this episode from being pretty good by itself. The opening sequence into memory wipe bait and switch was (bitter)sweet and well done.

Much less Missy than I anticipated this season for sure. But it didn't hurt the season. This was the best season in years. I wasn't a big fan of 7&8 as a whole.

And I don't really have a lot to add that you guys didn't already say. I expected more from Gallifrey. When I saw him pull Clara into the room I kinda got upset as I sorta felt her end wasn't set yet in Face the Raven and that the episode wouldn't deliver.

It didn't help when they immediately went into the place with the wraith things for the super computer. I didn't like the throw in for the Cyber Men, Dyleks, and especially the Weeping Angels. I'm still sick to death of those things. But it began redeeming itself when The Doctor and Clara started talking there and escaping. From then on I loved it all.

And yes, all the references were great. I'm a nuwho only person but thanks to you guys and reading online I know quite a bit of old too so I appreciated the default TARDIS. As nuwho I loved the 4 knocks and the diner.

And I completely agree that I am both mad and happy at how she departed. Mad about the fact that she lived (not that I wanted her to die I just kinda get tired of the fact that I can't expect main characters to actually die), but it also didn't really dilute her death from a story standpoint. And both ways she got to exit were very fitting for the story.

I actually didn't mind the Doctor shooting that time lord either. Heck, as the War Doctor he shot a lot of things and was willing to commit genocide. After everything he went through it felt natural. And using Clara as his fuel to get through all those years in the torture chamber would make him go crazy to save her. I think had a "normal" situation followed her death and he'd had enough time to come to term with it running on his adventures he'd have gotten over it better. But following Heaven Sent and ending up on Gallifrey knowing they could extract people before their death... I just felt that it was all presented to him before he was able to accept it all. So crazy torture + grieving + being presented with a way to save said person = "I'll shoot you and figure out how to stop the universe from unravaling when I have to do that!"

Rassilon was so underwhelming I didn't even pick up he was the same tyrant from The End of Time even though he had the glove. I recognized the glove but thought it may be kinda common for the higher ups. And had forgotten his name because I'm terrible with names.
