As long as you're not ripping from Continuum Shift you'll most likely be safe (I hear they might be going after those that dl the CS dump or something, I dunno)

Hmm, I actually stated I was ripping this Taito's old game, nothing else...
What is Continuum Shift????
I wonder what Messatsu told Capcom to get such an answer... I'm not quite sure if what I wrote is good enough to send it...
EDIT
found a way to get to TAITO, somewhere in their official page I found this:
Contact (press only):
TAITO Corporation
Email: pub_web@taito.co.jp
Now I'm less sure if I should send them this:

I found the mail link visiting your web page http://www.taito.com/ and even though it said "Press only" I dared to send this email since I couldn't find any other email address to contact you. I'm sorry, can't think of other way to do this.

You know this very old Taito's franchise
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ninja_Warriors
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ninja_Warriors_Again

The question is that I'm not sure about Taito's position about Fan works and other fanmade stuff, since I've been thinking about using stuff from The Ninja Warriors and The Ninja Warriors Again within the MUGEN(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.U.G.E.N ) engine.

Many Capcom's characters as well as other stuff have been extracted by people at the MUGEN community (http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=62291.0;all) from their original games and used within MUGEN to make non profit open source stuff. I know Capcom's position about fanmade stuff http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3278/capcomproofzz4.png
However I'm not sure about yours, that's why I wanted to contact you.

I doubt necroing a sticky is against any rules (hell, it always bumped), so...

I seriously doubt Taito/Square-Enix would allow their stuff to be used, especially considering the following:

http://crimsonechoes.com/letter.pdf
http://www.lordkat.com/shit/square-enix/001_CnD.pdf
http://kotaku.com/355518/square-enix-cuts-down-sword-pirates

The second is at least understandable considering it's a ROM hack... but seriously, getting US customs involved just because we want an emo kid's sword? Not to mention they dont even want the fucking C&D letters posted on the internet.

While Square Enix appreciates the enthusiasm of its fans, and values its relationship with them, it is also obligated to protect its intellectual property rights or risk weakening or losing the very rights that enable the company to continue to provide its fans with an exciting entertainment experience.

They havent been living up to that promise of "exciting"

I don't see how. Those two were popular enough to be having been noticed by SE. There have been many many S-E owned creations already made for in Mugen and there has never been any kind of letter from them.

Wait, what's all this about Dragonclaw being original? I swore it was a reworking of a fighter from One Must Fall 2097. ...unless the guy that made Dragonclaw worked on that?

um, back when Reu was around he showed us exactly how he made him. Which was in 3d mind you. He took a 3d model he created(whether it was influenced by OMF2097 or not is not the point) and walked us through everything he made it do and its purpose. So yes, he's original as original can get.

Hmm... I see, Thanks for your interest.
I sent the mail I mentioned in my former post here, some months ago, but got no answer. I sent it to Taito, not to Square-Enix, I guess now I should try sending it to Square-Enix?
Anyways one of those chars already exists as a MUGEN char and nothing seems to have happened to it's author Cadavélico. I took permission from him to re make his Kamaitachi (why rip all those sprites or code all that again if I can take his creation to start off) alongside with the other two chars the Ninja and the Kunoichi.
Currently The three chars are operational, they're playable and I'm thinking about the AI and what new stuff 1.0 will bring to make them work well avoiding ugly hacks/workarounds.
Yet I pray all the work was not in vain and  Taito/Square-Enix won't bother to pay attention to open source chars that are fan made and don't represent any threat to their intellectual properties.

Considering that Taito is owned by SquareEnix, I wouldn't be surprised if they said no. And as I posted a few months back, SE doesn't take fangames very lightly.

Its what killed Anything Square related for me. Hell, Valve is all "UP-AND-ATTEM!" about free fan made stuff. (Even releasing SDKs) But Square is very open about not liking thier own fans (as I don't either, but hey...) and what they are capable of.

I can't create sigs for crap. At least its 500x187
