at least they came in correct colored plastics and not involving glue
I remember the day when bandai gundam kit was more like aeroplane model kit only came in brittle monotone plastic with no skeleton that you needed to glue and paint.
Yeah, imagine a model kit you need to glue together and paint.

Isn't that the point of a model? To put it together and paint it? Or am I missing something? Why not just buy a big action figure if you want it together already? You could pose it the way you wanted too.

You can still paint Gunpla if you want, its mostly for custom paint jobs and putting battle damage and stuff on there. Like if you wanna give a Gundam a big ugly Zuko burn scar.

Or be the ultimate legend and get a Master Grade Turn A and paint it hot fucking pink
There was a sig here. Its gone now (thanks photobucket ya fecks)

To expand on this a bit: most of the more serious Gundam modelers do end up painting their kits (and gluing stuff as needed), even if they're not doing a custom paint job. What Bandai has gotten really, really good at is making its kits be able to be enjoyed by people of all different skill levels, so a little kid can build a kit and use no paint or glue and still have it look very good, but an avid hobbyist, with that very same kit, could make it look all the more impressive by painting and detailing it.

I can understand that. Sounds like a good idea actually. Later down the road the kid might to try his hand at making the model he put together 5 years ago look even better.

if you buy aeroplane modelkit or tamiya model kit, you're in for the hobby of putting together model kits, and most likely old enough to have putty, paints, etc.
not so much if you just want to have a gundam robot as a kid and being forced to put together things and once it is finished it has no color, and way too brittle to play it around with. there was no alternatives in the 80's for gundam, I had Orguss & Gerwalk, Votoms, and some other that were poseable and made with partly metal and very sturdy to play with, and super robots Godsigma, Daltanias, Gordion, etc. that was almost half metal  half very sturdy plastic and heavy for a kid and hardly poseable at all, but no gundam toys back then in my country, only came in boxes as kits meant for adult hobbyist.

Modern Gundam kits nowadays are nice and sturdy enough to weather a good deal of abuse if they're made right. I've had my HGUC Qubeley fall off my table and be none the worse for wear, she's amazing like that.
