Hello, all.

In development for quite some time [!], we at Super Fighter Team are pleased as Christmas punch to finally release our complete, full game of Tough Guy: Fighting Titans for MUGEN.

This game is based on the DOS original by Panda Entertainment, from 1995. We acquired their back catalog in 2012, and this updated version of the game is very much a labor of love for us.

New features:

Completely redesigned fight system
Unique "Tough Skill" for each character
Improved animation, presentation, control
Remixed soundtrack
Selectable boss characters

Congratulations on the release.

There is one problem/bug I have found involving the Tough Skill mechanic. It doesn't work the way it was intended for Player 1.

When activated by Player 1, the Tough Skill bar is immediately maxed out and does not decrease when using it.

When activated by Player 2, only one stack of the Tough Skill bar is filled and it decreases by 1 unit when used.

When the Tough Skill Passive mode runs out of time when activated by Player 1, the Tough Skill bar doesn't become empty and becomes unlimited, leading to Player 1 being able to use the Tough Skill freely without any limitations. When one round is over, the Tough Skill bar returns to normal.

When the Passive mode is activated by Player 2, the Tough Skill bar remains empty when the Passive mode runs out of time.

Sorry if my explanation was not clear enough. I had to dig around the files to read up on how it worked as there was no move list or a guide on how the system mechanics work.

Hopefully my feedback was helpful. I apologise in advance if you were not able to replicate this bug on your end.

been waiting for this game for years and words can't describe how happy I am that it got released today.

every aspect of this remake is eons better than the original DOS game IMO, though my only gripe about it was that the game didn't come with a movelist and I had to open each characters' command file to know what their moves are. I'm also having difficulty with getting the Tough Skill charge mechanic to come out, despite knowing the command for it.

other than those problems this game is fun and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

Thanks for reporting the bug, Gogngos. We'll look into it. Aside from this, I hope you are enjoying the game.

Thanks to the rest of you, too. I'm happy to know we've made your day.

Tough Guy was a natural choice for us after the completion of Super Fighter Special Edition. I always thought the original DOS game looked and sounded incredible. But... the gameplay just wasn't there. All the CPU AI did was hit you, charge + heal, hit you, charge + heal, ad nauseam. Not to mention the slippery controls and wonky charge bar. Such a shame! A missed opportunity for Panda.

So when I brought in the programmers -- Robert Holmes and Adam Codony -- for the MUGEN version, one of the first things I said to them was: "Take a look at what the DOS game does, and let's do the opposite." It wasn't an easy task to make Tough Guy play as well as it looked, but hats off to these two guys for making it happen.

I'd also like to give "mad props" (as the kids say [?]) to our musicians -- Joachim Wijnhoven and Posu Yan -- for taking the original soundtrack and giving it an update and some polish.

Now! As for the move list and such not being available on our website or a handy PDF document: Sorry about that. It isn't a personal choice, it's a time constraint thing. However I hope we can put something convenient and attractive together at some point in the near future. Thanks for understanding.

ok I figured out the Tough Skill system and apparently a few characters' Tough Skills don't seem to KO the opponent (namely Lee's, King's and Zhao's)

this is a huge improvement over the original, everything feels really good and the unique abilities are a cool addition. i never liked the charge mechanic of the original tbh and i feel like this is a great replacement for it, it makes everyone feel really unique (love the sheana teleports a lot)

one thing though, this could use some documentation or readme outside of looking in each characters .cns files to explain the new mechanics a bit more readily, not to mention the moves

Yeah they said that they rushed the release out and forgot to put up movelists and stuff. Hopefully it won't take them too long to do it.

Thanks! The charge mechanic ruined the original game. It was embarrassing. I just thank the good Lord that Sango Fighter 2 was spared that tragedy. I would have liked for us to have been able to go back and release an updated version of the DOS game -- like we did with Sango Fighter and Sango Fighter 2 -- but because of how generally broken the fight engine is in Tough Guy, we decided that focusing solely on a Windows version built from the ground up would be the best way to go. And based on the feedback we're receiving on the MUGEN version, players are really grateful that we went this route.

I'd love to hear about some of the experiences y'all are having with the game, such as: Who are your favorite fighters (and why), what you think of the soundtrack, etc. Please share.

We couldn't include this at launch due to time constraints. We have two commercial products set to ship before year's end, and several other titles in active development. If we'd waited until the opportunity presented itself to create a proper "instruction manual" for Tough Guy, it would have pushed back the release of the game far longer than I'd have been comfy with.

Nice vid! I watched the entire thing [!] and it was neat that you tried out every character.

It's also cool that you're familiar with Super Fighter, and noticed the similarities between Gerdon and Bullet. Super Fighter and Tough Guy shared much of the same development team, despite being produced by different companies. In fact the programmer of both referred to Tough Guy as a "spiritual sequel" to Super Fighter. Just a little bit of trivia there.

Dietrich is pretty damn cool just because of his special ability where he can move the opponent back and forth. I wanted to see if you can create longer combos with it but sadly it's hard to use another hand to make the opponent block while I try the combo to see if it's real. I wished this game had more settings like refill life, block after 1st hit, etc. I wanted to make a combo video with several characters for fun.

Lee and Kaori play well too, really dig what their toolset are. Kaori has that sick instant overhead and if you add her air projectile with it it's a pretty neat trick.

Did a video on Kaori, thinking of doing a video on Gerdon next. He has a crazy Tough Skill lol so I want to make some combos with it. Maybe Chieshen after because there's no other character exist who fights on a handstand is there?

Love the new additional character Zhao, is he an original character? He has a striking resemblance to the main character Lee... He doesn't have an idle animation, is he unfinished?
