Which fighting games are considered rare?
It's true that if you own a PS3 then all arguments made by those who don't have one are invalid.

Not really. There is one definitive rom site that's been around for years that houses thousands of roms. Let me share it with you, it's.........oh yeah, I forgot. Can't post that kinda thing  ::)

The puzzle fighters were (and still are) rare in my city when they came out. Marvel Super Heroes VS. Street Fighter is another one that gets my rarity vote.

I used to have all of those games at one point until my asshole brother sold the Saturn. =(

Since got another one and got most of those back. The only 2 Saturn games [I can afford] that I'm still looking for is House of the Dead and Last Bronx. I used to love that game, but, as you rightly state, hella rare.

Another series that seems to be rare, in this area, at least, is... King of Fighters XI. o.O Seriously, nobody has it at all, it's ridiculous.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 isnt a rom, its an ISO. Also, it doesn't run that great, unless you have a beastly compooter.

you don't really need a beastly computer, a half decent one for current standars will do. unlesss you are talking about the ps2 version, which does require a beastly computer.

I guess no game is really "rare" these days, considering I just saw a post about someone trying to rip from Tattoo Assassins.

So I'll consider "rare" to mean rarely mentioned or played.

I'd venture forth "Dark Legend" for the Saturn.  Like a chinese themed Samurai Shodown.
Even though it was virtually ignored at the time, I enjoyed playing it (except for the sucky Saturn controller).
Some of the characters had pretty cool combos and moves when they lost their weapon.
Very clean design, I thought.

And "Weaponlord" for the SNES.  Steep learning curve, but once you got used to it, it actually played really well and the controls made sense with the moves they portrayed.  The animation didn't have enough frames though.  Too bad it'll never be updated.
Also, brought me back to the very first fighter I ever played, Barbarian, which still has the best instant kill-fatality IMHO.
Actually, the first fighter I played was Karate Champ...suddenly I feel very old.

You're lucky to see a CVS2. and if ya do, you should really pick it up since it's only like $20 as of now. For EX3, I've seen one in LA for like $10 and I was gonna get it, but i had no money with me lol. In fresno, where i live, there are like NO copies of SFEX3, CVS2, nor MVC2, especially MVC2

FX Fighter is another rare one. It's not that great of a game but for the die-hard collector, it's a must-have.

Has anyone heard of Tao Feng for XBOX? I heard that was actually a pretty good game. I think it's like mortal kombat or DOA b/c the gfx look like it. but yeah I've never ever seen a copy of it in stores.

  • I'm quite mad, you see....
This thread really helps me appreciate my copy of MvC2. Shitty music and all.

But yeah, my vote definitely goes to Project Justice for Ultimate Rarity. I can't find a copy anywhere, and trust me, I've been looking pretty damn hard.

Also, Martial Masters. And anything Sailor Moon-related.
