How can I get DOS MUGEN working on Vista?

And yes, I know Win MUGEN exists.  Every time I try it, my favorite super old MUGEN characters and stages don't work.

All I wanna play as is Metaknight from some super old 1998 or something website, Kirby, Mario, Sonic, and all that stuff.  NOT as fighting characters, I HATE fighting games with a passion and seriously only play MUGEN to play as Nintendo/Sonic/Powerpuff girls/etc. characters and stages.

But every time I try Win MUGEN, my favorite Nintendo characters and my favorite stages don't work right ....

So how do I get DOS MUGEN working on Vista?  I have all my files from Windows XP all set up the way they worked on my old Windows XP computer, but when I try it with VDMSound on Vista, I get pop ups saying how it's not allowed to go full screen.

What about DOSBOX? Have you tried this emulator?

Why don't you just use DOS2WIN on the dos chars?
