Since Your Releases, 1.0 has been given Found and Edits subcategories, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have a projects section for 1.0 material, just to neaten things up, and give a sense of clarification as to which mugen that the creation is being made for?

Thoughts?

I still think the 1.0 section should be scrapped all together and add MUGEN 1.0 to existing message icons. The MUGEN 1.0 part can sit above the main lettering and cut a few pixels higher than what the icons already are.
Message icons aren't limited to just 15 pixels in height.

^^no, mugen 1.0 has grown alot since the initial release and has releases(chars screenpacks etc) for it coming out more frequently

Yes, but I don't think it's different enough to warrant its own section. It would've been like opening a separate Hi-Res when Winmugen Plus came out.

Isn't 1.1 supposed to be completely incompatible? For that, you would open a new section.

mugen 1.0 is more different then when hr mugen came out because of the new coding and features that 1.0 offers plus its not a hack like those. Im not too sure about 1.1, but when it does release a simple name change can be done

this was considered but that'd be way too many goddamn icons

Ah, I forgot about the icon filter display. That could be remedied with a hovering dropdown menu gimmick.
You put your pointer on "Character" and you get "Charatcer", "Character Hi-Res", and "Character 1.0". That keeps it neat.

And on a similar note...what about HD releases? Shouldn't there be an HD icon for the 1.0 section?

In 1.0 it doesn't matter. The HD and HR stuff works natively. You don't need a special version of mugen to run it.

In addition, treating the 1.0 stuff as "special" is the wrong way to go. Technically if you were going to differentiate with icons, you'd do it with the older version of mugen. We want to support Elecbyte with their current version, not hold onto the old one.

It is the "official" version of the engine after all.

Only problem is with the 4:3 VS 16/9 stuff for 1.0, but I don't think there's any need to create special icons to differentiate this.
However, if we're going to keep LR and HR stages icons in 1.0 section, might as well add a HD one.

I don't think a 1.0 section for Projects is needed, as the differences are not subsequent enough. Plus, most people make their stuff compatible with both engines, in the sense that if the char is 1.0 only, it also includes a patch or something to make it compatible with old winmugen. (Kamekaze, Jmorphman, me, etc.)

Correct me if Im wrong, but wasnt the whole purpose of the LR and HR stage icons for those who stuck with the old winmugen and those who use winmugen+? 1.0 doesnt have that distinction as it supports LR, HR, and HD. So if a stage is for 1.0 only then there is no real need to label it as LR, HR, or HD since it cant be run on older versions of MUGEN anyway. I could see this happening if the Older MUGEN and MUGEN 1.0 sections were merged into one, but if 1.0 is going to be kept separate then there is no need for multiple stage icons based on the stage's resolution.

Yeah, you're right, but some people don't have a PC powerful enough to run HD stage (not that I care :P).
In this case, Widescreen VS 4:3 would be the only distinction which could be done.

The main priority now should be to create images for each section. Just like the ones that the Winmugen place has. Or reuse the ones from that place. I hate to see just a white sheet there.

Why not just have 1.0 in the topic title?  That makes sense.

An HD stage has to be 16:9? I never looked into it.

Technically if you were going to differentiate with icons, you'd do it with the older version of mugen. We want to support Elecbyte with their current version, not hold onto the old one
You can code all resolutions to be 1.0 exclusive, so of course you need to differentiate releases with appropriate resolution icons.

The old one is still the leader now, where as most people are not using 1.0.
1.0 still needs to catch up.
Winmugen is to DVD as 1.0 is to BluRay.

Another thing that has to be considered is how many boards will there be once 1.1 comes out?

Sooner or later Old Mugen and 1.0 Mugen need to be merged.

Later then. Elecbyte is not even done with the stable 1.0 yet, no point is worrying about 1.1 for now.

totally agree with him in this statement

there's no need of other section, just new icons to recognize 1.0 projects

Won't matter. Elecbyte have stated that the code for older creations will continue to be supported but there will be a point where it is no longer added to. Ie, if you create something that's 1.0 it will still run on 1.1's system.

2.0 i'm not 100% sure about but even with the code change i think they're going to keep the older stuff available. They have a player base right now, removing that compatibility would basically make the engine start again.

  • Fuck You.
My guess is that they're gonna have a compatibility patch for later versions (1.1, 2.0) akin to the "dos2win" program. It'd make alot of sense for creators who just wanna move their things.
i cant count the reasons i should stay

one by one they all just fade away...

Why not just have 1.0 in the topic title?  That makes sense.

If its in the 1.0 section then there is no reason for that. It's assumed to be for 1.0. If it were reverse compatible, it would be in the winmugen section. In my eyes, anything in the 1.0 section is not reverse compatible by default.

The release section has similar rules to that.  If posted in "Your Releases, Older Mugen" it usually means it works with both.  If posted in "Your Releases, Mugen 1.0" it is usually exclusive to that.

As far as a 1.0 projects section.  I'm kind of on the fence.  It seems a bit pointless to me, but then again...eh why not?
