Trying to recreate this in MUGEN. -

Mugen just pushes the character along. -

Try decreasing the velocity of the target.
In your hitdef, modify this:

air.velocity = x, y

Change the x value. If it's, for example, -5, use -4 or -3.

Push box and hurt box are different things in KOF, Mugen uses both for the same purpose, to achieve that you may have to lower the hurtbox in the running animation.
