I was literally about to say "God of War: Ragnarök" lmao.

If you guys played GoW2 and 3, then you must remember the time Zeus killed Kratos, and the (second) time he tried to kill himself.

Well, he's still got those scars in the stomach.
And he has much more self-control, too.
It seems after the events of GoW3, he went far away to make a new life. To have a new love and a new child.
And that's what GoW4 is about it seems. He just moved to a different place. Though, we don't really know when this happens. It could be hundreds if not thousands of years after GoW3. Kratos is inmortal after all.

I don't see how that's possible, as God of War 3 involved Kratos literally destroying the sun, the oceans, and the world, and unleashing massive plagues that killed everyone on earth that he hadn't already murdered in person yet.

Gods, the more I remember about the writing in that game the stupider it gets.

no but you see kratos impaled himself to release hope back to the world, which supposedly would magically fix all of that.

Yeah, as in "I hope these locusts finish eating me before I freeze to death in the dark because the sun is dead."

according to the game director cory balrog there won't be any quicktime events or open world.

plus you will only play as kratos himself so that's good.

and apparently kratos is the only greek god-related character left and has since controlled his rage and moved on with his life

BASICALLY god of war completely 180'ed and changed literally everything that defined the original games, so I guess it's a good fresh start

I'll be glad if he doesn't end up going crazy and killing all the norse god and heroes, like they did post 2.

I would like to fight Norse Monsters like Grendel, Jörmungandr and/or Fenrir.

I remember reading in the internet that the original events of God of War 3 would be Kratos killing Zeus and then bringing lots of mythologies to his universe and killing their gods too (was changed due to the writer getting fired or something like that). It kinda makes sense with this one being similar, he killed the whole greek mythology big guys, now he moves to the other mythologies. Damn... I wish he had chosen Egyptian...

Cory Barlog, not balrog.

If he's the guy on it though, it'll be really fucking good. He directed 2, which was my favorite by far.

would you call mario 64 or resident evil 4 a reboot

this is really stretching the definition. if the game follows the same timeline as the other games then it's not a reboot. it's not restarting anything, it's not ignoring the past timeline

Reboot=/=rebranding

MK9 is a reboot.  DmC is a reboot.  Those are just sequels that go into a different direction.  Was Resident Evil 4 a reboot?

idk some sites are calling it a "soft reboot" kinda like how transformers 4 was coined a soft reboot because of the completely new cast and (somewhat) different direction

Something is either a reboot or not, there's no middle term. The closest to that would be some super convoluted meta shit, and even then you will most likely end up with a reboot like in MK's case anyway.

Can Mortal Kombat's case be called a reboot? I mean, I know its a timeline reconstruction, but it happens within the story, Raiden, from Armageddon, returns in time and changes all events, its not like with Devil May Cry, for example, where all characters and story are totally different and unrelated to the original versions and story.

Yes.

Things play out differently from what happened previously for the express purpose of telling a new story. Just like Star Trek, a reboot through time travel shenanigans is still a reboot, not a sequel.
Nevermind, there's nothing I can do
Bet your life there's something killing you
It's a shame we have to die, my dear
No one's getting out of here alive
This time
What a way to go, but have no fear
No one's getting out of here alive
This time
It's a shame we have to disappear
No one's getting out of here alive
This time, this time, this time

This aint a reboot, it changes nothing of the continuity, its a genre shift. Changing from the slasher/masher genre into a more action oriented gameplay.

Looks a lot like Last of us.

That's called a placeholder date. It's not actually coming out the last day of December.
