Goal: Getting 80 Artists to participate in the project, 80 Characters from the Mortal Kombat game series are part of this big fan art project, every character gets drawn by a different artist

The Project was announced by me via Deviantart and Game-Art-HQ-Com on September 12.2011

46 Artists are participating in the Project already, some are more or less amateurs, some are professionals which earn their money since years with drawing.

To name a few people which are a part of the project: Esau13 http://esau13.deviantart.com/ , ecaines http://ecaines.deviantart.com/ , BrotherOstavia http://brotherostavia.deviantart.com/ , Zakuman http://zakuman.deviantart.com/ , Puzzletoad http://puzzletoad.deviantart.com/

The first entry was finished yesterday already, it can be seen here http://www.game-art-hq.com/mortal-kombat-immortal-fan-art-tribute-cyber-sub-zero/

The Main Project page can be seen here, http://www.game-art-hq.com/the-mortal-kombat-immortal-fan-art-project/

This is of course a non-commercial project, done by fans, for fans. Game-Arts-HQ is my website, it reaches around 600 unique visitors at a day..its only 3 Months old and i try to make it more or less the "OCR of Fan Art"  That means, only chosen fan art, cooperation with the artists, nothing is "stolen" and on the site without the permission of the Artists.  Its my long term goal to get quite a lot fan art projects running there including sprite art / pixel art projects as well as fan made games in the future

But now back to the MK Project.

As mentioned over 40 artists are onboard already, but that means that nearly 40 more can be a part of it. If you can draw, and if you like the MK characters you can claim one of the remaining characters.

Every artist has one month to finish his entry, after 4 weeks are over and the artist didnt contact me to ask me giving him more time, the character claim will be lost and another artist might get the chance to be a part of the project.

There is a list with all MK Characters which are part of the project, and where you can see which are still not claimed

http://www.game-art-hq.com/mortal-kombat-immortal-fan-art-tribute-project/

I expect the project to be finished in 2-6 Months.

Greets everyone, gbk

Alright..judging by the fact that only Thedge claimed one of the remaining characters for the Project it is quite obvious that there arent a lot people interested for this project

48 artists are working or were working on the project though.

3 characters have been drawn now and while i guess that MFG isnt the biggest place for Mk related things, i thought that some of those who might read this post will like the following pictures, both of thema rent super professional, but both of them are damng reat in their own way i think

Reptile in his human form from MK 1 drawn by TheGeckoDemon is a hommage to the moment when you actually found the first hidden character in a fighting game...
http://www.game-art-hq.com/mortal-kombat-%E2%80%9Cimmortal%E2%80%9D-fan-art-tribute-%E2%80%93-reptile-mk-1/

But the third created entry is on an own level..the artist Imbillpardy asked me who he should draw...in a sadistic second i replied... "Nimbus.... Nimbus Terrafaux"
He asked..Nimbus who? and i showed him the two blurry fake screenshots which exsist of him. Nimbus Terrafaux was an april fools joke in 1993 by the EGM magazine which showed a hidden character for the megadrive version of MK1..the guy on this pictures looks a bit like Michael Jay White as Super Dynamite..and well.. ImBillPardy did his best to make something out of those two little screenshots

There you go for the result for the project http://www.game-art-hq.com/mortal-kombat-%E2%80%9Cimmortal%E2%80%9D-fan-art-tribute-%E2%80%93-nimbus-terrafaux/

I really wonder how a SF or Tekken related fan art project turns out when characters like sheng long will be a part of it

While the most popular characters might all be claimed already, maybe still one or two mfg members might get interested in the project..of so..check the first post from me for all relevevant informations.

happy weekend, gbk

I wouldn't say that. It's just that most of us can't draw at all or don't draw well enough.

Maybe you are right, but with all those sprite edits or own sprites which are often showing a big creativity when it comes to new animations for exsisting fighting game characters as example, i thought some of the people here would come up with entries for the project which are sprite based, maybe my fault i didnt write a bit about that in my first post

Who knows..maybe there will be a fana rt project in the future especially for spriters

If it's just one fan art piece needed for a character, then I'll bite.  I claim Li-Mei.

welcome onboard, Li Mei shall be yours

its even a rule that every artist can only claim one character, that way i try to have a very big variation of different styles in this fan art project

I absolutly didnt..and had them in the list when i started it but i think 80 characters are already a damn lot and it will probably take months to see this project finished anyway.  If every damn mk character ever mentioned somewhere like tundra, King Gorbak or even that shaolin monk from the MKDA konquest mode would be a part of the project we would probably have over 140 characters and thats really too many for now

If it is done however, i plan to expand this project with more characters of the MK Universe and Myths. ..If ImBillPardy will ask me again for a character than he will get Pedro  --;

The different looks of the characters will also play a role if this project grows. Think MK 1 old shang tsung, MK 2 young asian looking shang tsung, MK 3 facepaint young shang tsung and so on....

stop whining already. you got Nimbus Terrafaux even if you didnt ask for him.

Beside that, Aqua will be included and Pedro too (somewhen..in the future)

small project update..there are 54 artists involved now..Kenshi, Sektor, Fujin Reiko and even Taven! were claimed recently by some really excellent artists like kostasishere http://kostasishere.deviantart.com/gallery/ , Dani Castro http://dani-castro.deviantart.com/gallery/ and TeukkiSS http://teukkiss.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=/

And i was told Nitara`s entry will be something unexpected and that it will be finished in a few hours

One of the probably most known MK fan art artists is onboard now, he is known as Jax007 or ScorpionBlaze and draws human cyrax

beside that there are now 62! artists working or already finished with entries for the project.

9 characters have been drawn already..among them the probably best and most professional looking fan arts ever of the two character Bo Rai Cho and Khamelion.

Cyrax and Mileena and Noob Saibot are drawn...both look very good. Nitara..the vampire girl from MKDA was drawn as well and i am glad she doesnt sparkle or look like Morrigan.

All entries can be seen there via clicking on the profiles or characternames http://www.game-art-hq.com/the-mortal-kombat-immortal-fan-art-project/

Some of the submissions look kinda bland to me but they are still good enough for me, now that Bo Rai Cho and Cyrax... damn! They are very good! That Noob is also basass! And the Khameleon redesign was a neat idea (But still the artwork is one of those I consider bland).

BTW you may wanna fix the typos on the names, it makes this look unprofessional, looks like your main trouble is with the names "Chameleon" and "Khameleon".

lol thanks..somehow i always speled tham chamelion/khamelion i see..changed!

i am quite sure not even half of the entries will look superb and in a league of an Udon tribute book but what i try with my take on a fanart project with many people is a totally noncommercial thing with 80 people involved without them needing to be professional drawers..its more like a fans for fans project and its the first one of such a scale i ever organized

i have the big goal and dream to make my ga-hq something for videogame related fan art what Overclocked remix is for videogamemusicremixes

the MK project is just one of the first project and i am sure i will get more experience with organizing projects, meeting more artists and know who will surely draw an awesome piece and who wouldnt

the next project coming is Kiler Instinct related, it will be the goal to get 2 drawings of every character together which was in both KI parts and one drawing of the characters which were only in one of the Ki games obviously.

Most likely it wont be the "artist can claim a character" system but isntead the 23 months deadline for all artists to deliver their drawings and a jury will decide what will be on ga-hq and what not" system

I have quite a lot ideas for the future.

you are welcome to help me with any typos or crap grammar you see, ya know i m german and never learned english as native language + didnt have english class since around 13 years now :-)

Newest entry btw, a quite dark take on Shao Kahn by Salvation-Series http://www.game-art-hq.com/mortal-kombat-origins-series-fanart-gallery/
