How many hours did you invest playing an RPG?

Did you regret investing so much time on it?

I played FF12 for 180+ hours. It was a great game however I needed to stop cause it started to feel like work and the game after so many hours of playing just felt like the need to do something else more important. It was the last Final Fantasy game I've played.

Just curious if anyone felt this way too.

Hoping Persona 5 isn't that long.

  • This is going to be very entertaining.

It all depends of the content of the game, and how much you enjoy it.  For instance, I squeezed everything there is out of Undertale in around about 12 or so hours, whereas I've dumped at least a couple hundred hours into FF14 and I haven't even reached the content from the first major expansion yet.

How many should you?  As many as you see fit that you're getting enjoyment out of it.  How many do I?  Well, as long as the combat or story is at least entertaining to me, which the later usually is, I usually play any RPG I get to the end of its story, no real constraining time limit.  JRPG, at least, other forms of RPGs like Skyrim I did the main questline and the war but that's about it before figuring I was done, caves and dungeons suck and all traps can kindly burn in hell.  Oblivion on the other hand I think I did every possible quest available to one character, DLC and all.  Shivering Isles will always remain my favorite expansion to any game ever.

That said, I've been cautious about JRPGs ever since Eternal Sonata.  I may have taken a liking for the black sheep FF XIII, but whereas most seem to have loved Eternal Sonata, having actually played it from beginning to end, well....

I second many of the statements already said on this thread.

It depends on the game itself, honestly. A nice, well-crafted RPG like Pokemon or Shin Megami Tensei or Etrian Odyssey or something really nice should have at least 80 hours banked up, longer if I am still playing it.

If it is something rather old or something made in RPG maker, do not expect me to bank up that much.

The most I ever spent in a JRPG was like 80 hours in Nocturne. When it comes to RPGs I probably have over 200 hours in Morrowind because I used to play a bit of it every day for 2 years, now I play once a week maybe.

But tbh it all depends on game quality. I put 20-something hours into Persona 4 and I felt like I was cheated out of my time.
While on the other hand I have 30 hours in Dragon's Dogma and I just started new game plus for the heck of it.

As many as needed to feel you are satisfied with the game.

P5 will probably be that long if you plan on romancing everyone, getting all Personas, beating NG+ and picking the optimum choices, and finding the perfect playthrough where you max all s.links without using a guide

  • SNK is life
I played 60-80 hours playing FFVII (those crappy PSOne graphics really grew on me) and around 50 hours for FFIX.

The rule is - Keep playing as long as you have fun.

All games are different. The PS1 Final Fantasies were 40-60 hours for me. FF12 was 200. Kingdoms of Amalur was 100. Dragon Age: Inquisition was 150. I generally end up with 120-130 for a Pokemon Nuzlocke run. I'm sure there are plenty of shorter, more stylized RPGs with lower playtimes. The Mario & Luigi games are more like 30, I'm pretty sure.

Holy smokes people!

You all must have lots of free-time!

But then again, a sure sign of getting older is that you do not get as much free-time...

If we're talking tabletop, it's normal to spend at LEAST 4 hours per session unless you're playing something like Call of Cthulhu and only stick to like the entry-level scenarios, which are more like... 2-3 hours including character creation. Or I guess the moment all of you are out-of-character talking about anime or complaining about your significant others' eating habits. That's how most of my sessions have ended so far.

For vidya, the most time I've spent on an RPG was the entirety of the first four .hack games (I logged at least 90+ on each disc doing all the sidequests), but that game sucks dicks. I don't count Pokemon because you can actually do shit with your Pokemon after you beat the game, and THAT time is almost immeasurable.

Depends on the game really If I enjoy it enough I try to get every hidden secret and kill every secret boss so usually anywhere from 40 hours to 200+ hours.
On Disgaea Staticians are an xp multiplier if you get 8 stacks of 300 Staticians on your weapon and each piece of gear you get a 9600 xp multiplier on a certain stage you can max a characters level in 2 goes from level 1 assuming you have the right gear to 1 shot the enemies

Damn 9600 xp multiplier!? Time to collect more staticians. I wish some of the items didn't start off at lv 100 like nemesis mk-ii or the prinny costume cause can't get any unsubdued specialists which sucks. the only way of getting those specific items at lv 0 is by gamesharking it sadly but of course super robo suits are the the winner when making the best character.

Bought Lost Dimension 2 years ago and played it for an hour. Didn't really felt like the need to finish it. Also bought Tales of Xillia 2. Bad idea buying the sequel so I'll put it on hold till I buy the first game.

So I decided to do shopping and Persona 5 is no where to be found so I had to choose from Tales of Graces and Tales of Symphonia.

I decided to go with Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. Trying to get over my videogaming depression specifically for RPGs. I'm liking the fact that it only takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes to get into the action from the start.

Some of you will wanna kill me after I say this...
The last Final Fantasy I played was FFVIII - I liked it more than 7 and yes I played both for a little under 100 hours each back in the day.
I think that's the most extreme I ever gamed on anything.
I have every FF from X - XV excluding XIV & XI for steam and I have never played any of them lol!
I just got XV and even my PC with SLI 1080ti beast mode cant get 60fps with everything ultra high max settings.

IDK if I will ever have the time in this lifetime to dedicate to them....Need to buy a lotto ticket or some shit.
