(this is kind of outdated sorry)

website: http://www.marvelvscapcom3.com/
check the twits mate: http://twitter.com/marvelvscapcom (mostly garbage)
japanese blog: http://www.capcom.co.jp/blog/mvsc3/
trailer, videos: http://www.marvelvscapcom3.com/us/videos
release date: spring 2011
systems: ps3, 360 (no arcade release planned as of now)
press release: http://capcom-unity.com/s-kill/blog/2010/04/19/captivate_2010:__marvel_vs_capcom_3:_fate_of_two_worlds!!!

confirmed chars:

- wolverine (largely unchanged)
- ironman (now has a diagonal proton cannon)
- hulk (largely unchanged)
- ryu (can aim his SHINAKU HADOKEN)
- morrigan
- chris redfield (lots of guns)

- captain america (steve is largely unchanged from his previous incarnations)
- deadpool (has shoryuken and says funny things. hes a funny char)
- felicia
- dante (dmc3 outfit, kicks ass)

- dormammu (boss?)

- dr. doom (seems to play the same)
- super skrull (if you're not familiar with super skrull, he's a character that has all the powers of the fantastic four. he kicks ass)
- thor (FINALLY. uses a newer design)
- chun-li (is chun-li)
- trish (dmc2 outfit)
- amaterasu (what)

a good source for the game's art

http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2010/jun/15/mvc3-artwork-deadpool-captain-america-and-dante/

what we know:
- it's 3 vs 3.
- old characters remain largely unchanged, right down to the way most of their basic and special moves are animated. their movelists are basically the same, too.
- all characters have a level 3 hyper combo
- whenever characters tag they call out the name of the character they're tagging in! and some are even more specific. for example, when capam tags ironman in he says TONY! that's pretty cool
- "MvC3 is using the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom scheme to be more accessible, but will retain stuff like Hyper Combo cancels, Snapbacks and assists"
- there are assist attacks and they come in alpha beta and gamma types just like mvc2
- the game will supposedly have a decent story unlike the previous crossover games
- the game has around 30 characters so far and they're aiming for more
- "MvC3 aims to knock down the wall of complicated controls and open up the field of strategic fighting to all comers. This means fusing the accessible controls of TvC with tried and true MVC2 gameplay."
- "The game has simplified launch attacks which are universally performed with one button, the Exchange button. This can also be pressed along with certain directions to slam opponents into the ground, leaving them susceptible to combos. Players can also hit the Exchange button in midair to tag in other team members on the fly. You can also counter exchange moves by guessing the correct exchange move to input at the same time as your opponent."
- the fantastic four, nemesis and tyrant won't be in the game. i wonder why they've never used the fantastic four in any of these games.
- one of deadpool's super involves him beating up the opponent with their lifebar
- dante's in the game in his dmc3 incarnation. he uses devil trigger, can use his guns and apparently one of his supers involves the nevan guitar weapon.
- chris has "submachine guns, taser, grenade launcher, satellite laser, gun". doesn't summon shit like jill does.

Most of those speculated ones look about correct.

I would say 2011 is a long time from now but it's not really since they're putting all this effort into it. I also wonder how they're gonna mesh the two universes' stories together.

  • Death or Glory.
If the Super Skrull is in it then there wouldn't really be a point putting any of the Fantastic Four in as well; he has all their powers.

Sucks about Nemesis though, but tbh, after playing RE5, I'd rather see Wesker in it representing the RE bad guys.

Jackie Chun Li, lol. That film was awesome.

Indeed. I like Tyrant and Nemesis and all, but they can't deliver hammy lines ensuring Complete. Global. Saturation.

the fantastic four aren't popular, really. that and the potential movesets for each character are already there in other characters, like hulk, dhalsim, and iceman. i couldn't imagine the invisible woman being in any installment of mvc without her being horribly overpowered and broken, mainly because most of her attacks in the comics involve putting tiny force fields in the brains/lungs/testicles of her enemies while threatening to expand them.

Adding to it, I had noticed a thing about ironman, and after seeing the movie I was glad to be sure of what it was.

And you know how movie companies love to sink hundreds of millions of dollars into (two) movies about characters that aren't popular.

The Fantastic Four are iconic in their popularity. The likes of Deadpool are more B-list in historical standings.
I think you might have hit the nail on the head with it being repetitive movesets, but I'm sure they could figure something out.
It's a good question. Maybe it has to do with who owns the videogame rights?

the fantastic four are more popular than half of mvc2's marvel side

and repetitive movesets didn't stop them from using ryu ken and akuma in the same game before i'm sure they could figure something like this out

wolverine and sabretooth have similar powers, so do spiderman and venom, and even Hulk and the Juggernaut, but all of them had distinct movesets.

The movie rights is probably the most likely reason, since Marvel had to sign away rights of fantastic four to Fox while they dont quit doing the movies.
Hopefully Disney will put an end to that soon.

With the 3 pairs you just named, the difference between all of them was that there was one that used speed, and the other that used power.

Sabertooth may be an exception though. He had some pretty fast moves.

by contrast the hulk, who is has a huge fanbase, had one complete flop of a movie and one good movie that failed to bring in enough revenue to warrant a sequel. also ghost rider, which did horribly and was an atrocious movie, is getting rushed into a sequel right now. hollywood's ability to market and churn out movies doesn't really have anything to do with it.

Just hope they choose the roster in a way similar from TxC. One character per book/game, especially because I want a Thunderbolts member in the game.  :P

With the Fantastic Four, it has to be a money thing then. I have no idea what their agreement is with Marvel/Disney, but I could speculate that one entire, A-list, Fantastic Four unit would cost more or the same as 6 or more B & C-listers.
You also have to factor in who Marvel wants to push in terms of comic sales.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom? If so, that game had a select few with more than one character a series. Yatterman, Street Figheter, and Gatchaman.

Well, Street Fighter got one character from Street Fighter, one from Street Fighter II and one from Street Fighter III, different games. About the Tatsunoko franchises who got more than one, I dunno because I'm not familiar with them.
