I have a character that I wanted to have in a similar style to PotS' Ryu, where his first 6 palettes are the normal character, and the 7-12th palettes use an evil version and have a different idle stance using begin action 1 instead of 0.

The only problem I have is that I'm not sure how to start on that at all.

Well, in Ryu by P.o.T.S. stance itself depends NOT from palette, but from VARIABLE.
But his Ryu.def connected to file, setting different variables fordifferent palettes via trigger "PalNo". This trigger will also work without variables, Ryu by N-Mario for example. But this will not let you to make different modes for different Defs.
