I've ripped some Warriors of Fate sprites; Abaka and Portor to be exact.
Never played the game and once I did I saw some nice mechanics. In the game all the characters have a dash attack (down+jump) but, don't have a running animation. So, I've thought of an idea. The running command could execute the dash attack.

Also, I'm thinking about making jumping assigned to a button like in beat 'em ups.
Opinions would be appreciated on that.

Don't do it. For a fighting game, using 'up' is very natural. Right from my other directions, I can instantly do a jump just by changing the direction to 'Up'. But the main thing is that that's how it's been for nearly 2 decades now, so that's just how it is. Assigning jumping to a jump button would ruin the natural-ity of that. For any other genre, a jump button is fine, but in a game where you only move left or right, and you aren't even very mobile when jumping compared to, say, Mario, 'Up' for Jump is ultimately best, IMO.

Assigning jump for a button would only make sense if you could walk upwards like in beat'em ups. in a fighting game it doesn't fit very well.

Yes, and even the voices should be as classic as it can be.

Blanka, for example, will have his classic scream while doing his rolling attack. That is simple part of my memories :)

I have added width state controllers for all the grapple moves/movements/attacks. This was a big issue as the binding would be extremely messed up near a corner. It may not seem like much but, the characters seem more smooth when the grapples look right everywhere they go.

Also, every character will have retro sounds from there orginal game. This includes...
Hitting sounds, Voices and Wind effects (say when you kick, you would hear a windy effect).

The characters sound so more complete with this update.

Naj, here is a good news:

I remember that a old pal, from MugenBR forum, already made Kingpin (from the Punishe series) to Mugen.


So, I will adapt him to our game :)

edit: Kingpin had already defeated, with bare hands, the Punisher and the Daredevil? Holy shit...

Thank you for finding that. Didnt really want to rip all those sprites  ;P
He will be a nice addition to the roster.
Also, we might aswell add the Punisher Series aswell. It was one of my favourite games out of all beat 'em ups.

And the "half machine punk" (forgot his name) could be a nice addition too, and I would like to do him (it requires less work, hehe)

Are you talking about the robot boss? That would be pretty epic.

I've put all new characters on hold and updating all the old characters. Right now Haggar, Jack and Captain Cammando are pretty much done. Others like Guy and DeeJay will be fully redone. I'm starting with Lucia first, I think she will be fun to make. My last version really sucked  :-\

Also Ilu has made a new hyper portrait system. I couldn't really get a good screenshot but it looks much better when playing the character on Mugen.


Ilu has made shocked custom animations possible.


We've decided to make the characters have there original sizes and not scaled up.


And finally, I've made a little CLNS update on my characters. Guy shows the old CLSNs and Jack shows the new ones.

- about the scale, it should be done on some chars for sure, but not in scale, but in localcoord. Its 300x225, if I'm not wrong.

For shocked anims, you're using the "optional anim standard", aren't you ? This way, characters which have it, such as POTS' chars if I remember correctly, will be able to display it correctly against Captain Commando.

Super portrait is cool. Too bad the gradients don't look fabulous. May be better in motion.
Having outlines for the blue thing may make it look better too.

Good job on the CLSNs.

Yes, say when your facing a normal mugen character it will still look fine. Like a for the Shock animation it would show the falling animation with a flashing pal fx.

The Super Portrait BG wasn't actually a gradient I don't think. And yeah, it looks much better in motion thats why I said I couldn't get a good screenshot.
