I'm going to post some sprite sheets and I would like you to make some palettes. Be creative (and good). 1st Up Mai and Leona:(ignore the afterimage when the time comes, that move will be done with helpers)I hope this sheet Rednavi made doesn't scare everyone off. Each Leona palette needs a red/pink/crimson haired alternative
Alright, here's Mai. She's pretty minimalist compared to Leona so I decided to keep it simple and not over the top, but if you're not happy with these I'd be fine with making more.
Desert Duster*PALETTE NAME REDACTED*And the alternate versions:If I get really motivated I might try to work with Mai. But I don't really think I will, she's not my type. :I
Yeah, I need to step my game up. Aldo is seriously upstaging me here. Maybe my Leona set will turn out better.
I see.And Orochi hair dye.I had another done, but comparing it to what I previously did, didn't quite hold up and was discarded.
Kirishima said, December 14, 2011, 05:30:31 amI see.Pardon my sillinessFirst submission from me for Leona
Looking back, I'm not particularly proud of some of the work I did on Mai. She deserves better and I still owe Leona some colors. I think since you've resumed work on the game I'll do proper sets for them.....and Vanessa too since Rednavi already did the separation, not sure if you plan on including her in the game or not.
This post will cover colour separation and my reasoning behind doing so. Yes I always separate for good reason. The project I've been working on since....can't remember should be revealed soon. Anyway.Let's take a newer(ish) sprite which has a few limitations:Now lets look at the palettes that the character has in game so we can make note of the limitationsBecause of the use of the darkest colour (0,0,0) on several parts of the sprite, creating a palette with a light coloured top is inadvisable. Why?That's why.So this is where separation is helpful. As I'm sure you know, you can separate colours which will allow you to make palettes that were not possible before.Simply by separating the hair (and for good measure, the frames of the shades) you can create a nice looking palette. When you've got a template like this, you can start to ask, "what is worth separating?" In this situation, I would go on to separate her eyes (both the pupils and giving colour to her irises) the eyes on the frog on her shirt, her gloves, the frames of her shades, the belt (or at least the Taegeuk) and her shoes. If you really wanted to go extra, you could separate the stripes on her pants the trims on her gloves and shirt. Why am I rambling? Because I wanted to know what you think of colour separation in sprites. For the most part, I think that it's only worth it if the palettes that are made are good. Lets face it, when everything is separated, people will try to go too far with their palette making and end up making something familiar to the bad example I showed (ie, taking away the "look" of the sprite). I'm quite interested to hear what others think. If there are enough responses, I can explain in detail how I do colour separation.
If it's just separating the colors from body parts and clothes, then cool. That way it doesn't get exagerated.
KOF sprites usually just need the very basic of separation because SNK likes to make weird shit share, especially with with the darkest shades on the sprites.

Ugh, just thinking on Birdie or Balrog. But indeed both companies have some bad color distribution in very few spritesets at least. Will paint something this night
Second pal looks similar to my second scheme mate, only with washed yellow. Just pointing out.We had the same thought or something? lol
^ If you were thinking in dark skinned and a light color then yes as I see, coincidences, good coincidences Another one:
Nice palettes guys, I'll be posting another sheet later. Until then,This effect seems really washed out in my opinion. Could someone make an improvement on it to use as the default colours (Pink or Purple or Crimson I guess)?
Next sheet is ready. I found her sprites too complicated to separate. Not that she really needs it, but it would be nice if everyone had separation.Oh, the fx aren't on the sheet, but you can change them if you want. The gray line is for her teleport, the pink line is for her command normals and the skull that appears over p2 and the blue and green lines are for her max2.
A shame isn´t separated but I understand since I tried to separate her as well, too complicated Will do some and port some of the best ones for this since I did palettes for the Shiki you released for Winmugen as well
A couple more for Shiki:Gotta agree that I concentrated more in her clothes than in her hair, oh well perhaps Shermie batch will end up better
i like the yellow one a lot, goodaldo.Actually all of em look good by now,i dunno why Kirishima called them rushed.
Now that I look again, maybe the 4th really is rushed. Maybe I got the impression due to the first with the white contrast without looking at the rest. Third looks okay.
^ Well, it was supposed to be something really simple so yeah, "rushed" could be a term, talking about Shiki, right?? oh well...
Little fact. On my second Shiki palette, before yellow it was a light brown, but I can't avoid the black outline so had to decrease the values while keeping it lightest, in a way. That value on your 4th palette was pretty much how it was on the first attempt. It was stressing indeed, heh.
Right, this one here is just a proof of concept. It should really go in the work shop thread, but since it's palette related I think here will be okay. The left sprite is the new one and the right is the old one. The left sprite has been given an extra leg shade to allow for better looking palettes. It may take a bit of time to do this on the rest of the sprites so if any palette makers could just see how this one works and post their feedback, it will be all we need to continue working on this. Also come on, let's get some palettes Yuri/Athena before the Akari sheet is posted!
That extra shade really does give it something extra.Koop said, December 16, 2014, 09:09:10 amMany thanks to Jmorphman for making this sheet. Wow I need to put much more care into making sheets.Paletting isn't my thing but how can I resist? I'll see what I can do.
You don't have to since the new one uses the same index as the old one, in fact you can apply your palettes to the new sheet and add the 5th leg frame for future use.
I actually did plenty of Yuri palettes but those are in your old wip thread... I need a link to rescue them! D: A 5th shade for Yuri legs would be nice though. Also, holy shit, that Athena template.
Yeah, those ones. Will be ready to update them whenever the 5th shade is implemented or I can use the one sample you posted?

I think the same as you... color separation is really helpfull! .... but I'm don't like to do it... it takes so much time (on my way, for sure).. so my question.. do you have any tutorial for a fast color separation? There's so many chars that I would like to do!and, congratulations for your work.
Tutorials can be found here.http://mugenguild.com/forum/tips-tricks-tutorials.3432 years old I know but I agree, separation gone too far takes away from how the sprite was meant to look. I mean, in the case of KoF it "works" on some characters because of the high amount of details in some designs, but someone like, say Ryo, having near 60 colors looks rather off (32 is what I did in an incomplete project). Nothing wrong with options I suppose, but then you'll get rather odd (and quite frankly underwhelming) results because people will go crazy and whatnot. Also, trying to make "tights" or "skin" out of certain areas looks tacky as hell. Anyway, will have some Yuri palettes up in a few.
Awesome, I'll come up with a couple tonight. Maybe I'll have more in store. Posted: January 17, 2016, 11:23:50 pmDemitri's Underage Bride (colors taken from CPS3 Demitri Maximoff by inktrebuchet)Kenji's Pride (colors taken from Kenji from Red Earth/Warzard)EDIT: If neither are showing, then use this link
Nakoruru sheet is up.For every palette you make, please make another with the same outfit colour but red (or some other cool colour) for the skin.
- Geki - Kitana (w/ Sindel Mamaha )If I don't get too lazy, I'll give you purple skin variations for the above at a later point.
Can I try it too?Supposed to be Youmu + different skin color(ghost):---Two more + skin variations(yellowish and steel):
I hope is not too late for me to try... I'm new here rsrsrs The Healing FX is kind strange, is not the way i wanted :/well i made more if you want to see...
@L.E.O.N: Damn dude, you are doing an stunning job here. Fantastic palettes, and Im amazed by the variety provided without changing the skintone a bit impressive stuff, keep it up Decided to redo a couple of Athena palettes so I dont feel left behind will try to provide some colors on the next template I suppose
@Aldo:Thank you!! Glad you like it!! I like skintone variations but i'm horrible in creating it, i'm just awful But i will try to make one with a darker tone I need to work more on the effects colours like the grey one, maybe a little bit darker, the aura is kind strange...And great palletes!! Your effects colours are amazing!! And you give me an ideia XD
Made one for Athena too:Based of Shield Sheldon from MMX6. There's lots stuff on her, hopefully didn't messed anything.
@Amy: Thank you!! Glad you like it!!! Well I try to make with a different skintone. That was the skintone I could create... Two of them are just inverted palettes
Something I'm working on. Based off how Mai appears in XIII. Not done yet, but subject to change. Here's some examples:
Oh for some reason Mai's sprites are weird. If only.....nvmThe next completed sheet is now ready. Please do your thing, everyone.
Gladly managed to stop making 'em and surprisingly hadn't repeated anyone's palettes, which is great as I hadn't checked beforehand...
Brown and yellow ones are kinda similar to Dishamonpow's ones, but I like colours more in yours. Also last two are very cool, she looks like assassin with last one

It's addictive!!

Wanted to experiment with black and aqua on next template too.

Wanted to experiment with black and aqua on next template too.Well i was inspired by your palette especially the 2nd one which is awesome, so i try to create a blondie type too but i like the colour in yours. By the way your effects' colours are pretty cool. The Aqua one i copy from my palette for New Athena but i decided to use the blondie hair of the pink one because the teal teal hair was just awful in Shermie. You should try, that's the best part of colour separation you can risk creating new combinations and be amazed by them Well here are some Mai palettes:
Wasn't my intention to disappear, but those evil tech. issues following me like hungry cat after smelling meat in parcel of food... If you see me coming - hide anything with displays in your possession or those'll fry to ashes, eheheheheee...Thanks, L.E.O.N, yours aren't half-bad either! Nice ones, GSN!For some reason there wasn't much love for Yuri so I made some for her:Cosplays this time - Arina, Roomi and Nemu. Blue bottom team(Yuri, Arina and Roomi of course, not Nemu) united in one bottom XD Wish Roomi was more popular...And one for Mai, afaik template wasn't final, but it stuck in my head that it would be neat to make, so...Yep, Yoruichi cosplay.
MFG Crew,The coding for Yuki is done, and now it's time to add some aesthetic touches Show us your colors! Try not to make her look too alien though Regular schoolgirl palettes are very welcome
Wasn't expecting this to be still going on. In that case, here's two pals for Yuki.Spoiler, click to toggle visibiltyAsuka (Zelgadis)(Left the socks be. Looked weird to make it the same color as the legs.)Athena: Awakening From the Ordinary Life(I'm sure making an Athena palette for her would be an obvious choice, so I decided to reference something obscure.)
Hey hey, those are actually pretty good If you've got any more laying around inside your colors satchel ... I wanna see them
Took a crack at the Yuki template, and here's what I came up with:XtremistVaporRageShoto Gal Green (Sakura Kasugano-Inspired)Shoto Gal Pink (Evil Sakura-Inspired)Kusanagi Green (NESTS Kyo-Inspired)Kusanagi Red (NESTS Kyo-Inspired)Vintage Todoh Style (Kasumi Todoh-Inspired)Vibrant Todoh Style (Kasumi Todoh-Inspired)Bubblegum Crimson Gold (Malin-Inspired)Shanghai Noon (Shen Woo-Inspired)Orochi Gold (Orochi Chris-Inspired)Azure Rose (Blue Mary-Inspired)
