So I am in the process of creating a Front End for Mugen for a project I am working on. One issue I have come across is resolution. I want to be able to use in game sprites in the front end. Most of those are a small resolution. So I can stretch them in my application, but the quality gets messed up a bit. The images seem blurry. Another option is to change the resolution of the machine at launch. And, lastly I could just ignor it and force using higher resolution images to support full screen.

Has anyone done anything similar to this and how did you handle it?

I am leaning toward changing the resolution.

Maybe applying some filters?

Another option is to have the user pick one of the options you mentioned (yes, more work, but better in the end because some people like huge pixelized stuff, while others only care for HD stuff, and others care about the ratio aspect).
