I've been busy working on my secret project for quite a while now, so it's about time I unveil it.
So, I present to you...



An MvC style MUGEN Sonic fangame. It features everything you've come to know and love about the MvC series, and more!
The game features tag team gameplay, complete with assists and snap-backs.

The combo system works as follows:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

Controls:
Press to Super Jump.
Press to tag in your other character.
Press ///// to use assists.
Press to do a snap back, which costs 1 level of meter.


I'm aiming for a roster of 16 characters: not too big, not too small, if you know what I mean.

Hmm... I like it so far! But a few suggestions based on the teaser video you showed us...

1. Pretty obvious to see (and I have no doubts you intend to fix this), the characters overlap the Hyper Bars.
2. The camera for that stage was a bit too awkward, being connected to the characters instead of moving with them naturally. It made following the fighting... harder, at least for me.

But other than that, good start!! Any teases for who we can expect on the roster? Aside from obvious picks like Tails and Knux?

I always love to see new Sonic projects.
Hope the roster has a few oddball picks like Tikal or Jet - there's a huge library of characters to potentially surprise us with.

The stage is pretty creative, a tranquil boat ride at Green Hill... :)

Sonic
Playstyle: All-rounder with an emphasis on rushdown

Completion: 100%

Changes from the original:
Damage scaling added
Spikers are no longer techable
It is now much easier to super jump out of a launcher
Effects touched up
Tons of new sprites added, some existing sprites were edited or changed
Added Sonic Battle eye shading to all sprites that didn't have it
3 new win animations
Almost all normals edited
You can now dash cancel a spin dash while you charge it up
Foot Storm and transformations removed
New special moves: Sonic Somersault, Sonic Slide, and Sonic Dive
New hyper move: Sonic Rush
Fixed the Spin Buzzer hyper move

Palettes:

1: Default
2: Classic Sonic
3: Ashura
4: redhotsonic
5: Super Sonic
6: Hyper Sonic

Movelist:


Unique Normals:
Sliding Kick ( )
Does a lot of knockback.

Special Moves:
Spin Dash ( // to begin charging, // to release)
Sonic's signature move. Works great for combos.

Sonic Somersault ( //)
A simple multi-hit move. Not much more to say about it.

Sonic Slide (//, follow-up for Sonic Somersault)
Sonic slides towards his opponent, tripping him up if it hits. If used well, it will allow you to greatly extend your combos.

Sonic Dive ( //, air only)
Just another sky kick move, nothing to see here.

Hyper Moves:
Spin Buzzer ( x2, Level 1 hyper)
A powered-up Spin Dash. Works exactly as you'd expect.

Rising Dance ( x2, Level 1 hyper)
One of Sonic's win animations made into a hyper move. Knocks the opponent high up into the air on the last hit.

Sonic Rush ( x2, Level 3 hyper)
Sonic grabs the opponent. If he successfully grabs his opponent, Sonic does a flurry of attacks, ending with the Sonic Slide, and then jumps up to spike the opponent down to the ground.


Also,
I always love to see new Sonic projects.

Let me tell you, there's going to be quite a few obscure characters in my game.
The stage is actually supposed to be a re-creation of Canyon Cruise, which was Tails' stage in Sonic the Fighters.

Just a thought, any chance you're looking for a custom announcer voice...? ;p
Oh, and I totally missed the stage being a recreation from Sonic the Fighters. Now that's a deep cut!

The fact that his body is static and doesn't look like its moving makes the idle look really bad.
How about we look at the real Shadow idle for an example

Notice how he looks like he's not a robot, and moves and his frames flow together and even his body parts move?
This is how an idle should look, not all jerky and weird like he's being electrocuted or something.
You know what i'm gonna do now?

I was going for something like Captain Falcon's idle animation from the Super smash bros series with the whole fist shake thing.

What I believe they're saying is -- your version of the idle is a good start, but is too static. If you don't want to use the normal idle and instead want something unique, you need to make his animation more lively, instead of too stilted. In comparison to Sonic's idle stance, Sonic is much more lively. Whereas if you use Shadow's OG idle stance, it'll be more consistent.

The first thing a MUGEN player typically sees is the character's idle stance... so even if Shadow is high quality, a stiff and lifeless animation may reflect badly on your final product.

If I may offer my two cents -- I like that! But I think there can be a few more inbetween frames.

For example, when he reaches the top and bottom of his animation, he just... stops. I think it should be a more fluid movement, if I may. Akin to the idle animation but a bit slower to allow the shaky hand to appear more pronounced and give Shadow a more menacing look. If that makes sense.

Not sure if this is intended but the top of his head is chopped off


Also there's just random pixels in spots on his shoes that make the animation a bit strange
His other ear should move too you know.

A reminder that your characters are still overlapping the hyper bar. But other than that, looks promising! Just gotta fix the animations so he doesn't look stiff and lifeless.

Also, not sure about them all being one image, but if you could send me a .zip file with them or just have that, but all the frames are separate images, I'd be fine.

Hey dude, I liked the idea! I have some feedback if you don't mind:

- use Layerno = 2 on the lifebars. They need to be on top of evertyhing, including the front layers.

- I would change the power bar size to half of the actual size

- The Shun Goku Satsu sound get repetitive very fast  and its kinda annoying :(

3: That's not a "Shun Goku Satsu sound". The hit sounds actually come from the anime "Dragon Ball Z". What you were actually hearing was this:

some advice on Option Screen , you can add your own custom Option fonts instead of using the standard fonts for it

I know this may seem a bit strange and out of place, and maybe like a shameless double post, but hear me out.

I've always had a very difficult time getting noticed. I've never really felt like I had an audience for basically the whole time I've been doing this. As you just saw, I posted 2 development updates, 1 of which had me outwardly asking for feedback, and yet, nothing. I'm honestly pretty sad about this. I mean, what am I doing wrong here?
So, I would like to say, one more time:

Man... just how old are you? Why is it so important that people notice you?
And if I remember well, the last time we gave you feedback (on your MvC Sonic) you pretty much ignored it. For this topic, you literally just posted this hours ago, have you ever seen how many creations get little to no replies here? And you already got many people here giving feedback, I don't get what else you want if it's not attention.

I seriously give up on trying to help you, you really need to mature and learn how things works...

I know this may seem a bit strange and out of place, and maybe like a shameless double post, but hear me out.

I've always had a very difficult time getting noticed. I've never really felt like I had an audience for basically the whole time I've been doing this. As you just saw, I posted 2 development updates, 1 of which had me outwardly asking for feedback, and yet, nothing. I'm honestly pretty sad about this. I mean, what am I doing wrong here?
So, I would like to say, one more time:
Please leave some feedback. I'm saying this because I've always had a difficult time getting noticed. I'd very much appreciate your feedback.
That would definitely cheer me up. I don't want to have to keep fighting to make people aware of my very existence like this.
Sonic isn't very popular around mugen folk
However one thing, for feedback, you might need to release something. But that's just my idea. Also this is just my opinion but, I don't really like mugen videos that aren't actual matches between characters.

As far as feedback goes, I reckon his divekick could use a sound effect when activated. Just like, a nice ZOOM or something.

I like how his finger snap move has multiple ranges, makes it a bit more skillful.

Any plans to implement guns or other weaponry from Shadow the Hedgehog? Perhaps in a super? Could help distinguish him even further from the other characters.

Ngl, based on your works, how you behaved as well as how you took feedback, there is little to no room to be excited about anything from you.
Make something which is worth for your audience's attention first, then move on later.

I thought this was going to be actual feedback. Will you at least say SOMETHING about what I've made so far?

Stop being so dismissive of all of this. You’re being called out and you’re blatantly ignoring it and it comes off like you think you’re FINE.

I HAVE tried to be respectful here and ignore it, but your behavior just... is odd and generally unacceptable. You’ve been given TONS of feedback, yet you still want more. And it comes off as you wanting attention.

And take it from someone who has done garbage things for attention in the past — it’s not a good thing and will constantly screw you over.

Please, allow the people who are trying to help you, TO help you. We HAVE been giving feedback and trying to entertain your ideas but a large part of the feedback has gone ignored or dismissed.

So instead of dismissing someone calling you out by demanding actual feedback, maybe think about WHY you’re being called out in the first place. Cause people aren’t doing it for no reason.

Chaos Spear ( //)
Shadow throws a Chaos Spear. A simple projectile.

Shadow Teleport ( //)
Shadow teleports a set distance away from him, which varies depending on the punch button that you used to perform the move.

Chaos Burst ( //)
Shadow lets loose a burst of Chaos energy. Causes a wall bounce on hit.

Chaos Snap ( //)
Shadow snaps his fingers to create a stationary projectile a set distance away from him, which varies depending on the kick button that you used to perform the move.

Shadow Dive ( //, air only)
Just another sky kick move, nothing to see here.

Shadow Counter ( //)
Shadow gets into a guarding stance for a brief period of time. If he gets hit while in this stance, Shadow will teleport behind his opponent and hit him with a sequence of kicks.

Hyper Moves:
Triple Chaos Spear ( x2, Level 1 hyper)
Shadow throws 3 Chaos Spears in quick succession.

Snap Quintro ( x2, Level 1 hyper)
Shadow creates 5 Chaos Snap projectiles, each one higher than the last. the 5th one knocks the opponent far away.

Chaos Control ( x2, Level 2 hyper)
Shadow pulls out his Chaos Emerald, and uses it to perform Chaos Control and stop time for 10 seconds.

Chaos Blast ( x2, Level 3 hyper)
Shadow lets out all his energy to create a massive explosion that does lots of damage.

Unlike Sonic, he doesn't chuckle.

Playstyle: Brute that packs a punch, but really needs to get in to do damage

Does a lot of knockback.

Rising Upper ( //)
Just your typical multi-hit DP. Works exactly as you'd expect.

Grounded Upper ( //)
Knuckles lunges forward, and then strikes upwards. Great for juggles. Functions as a launcher.

Explosion Fist ( //)
Knuckles lunges forward, and then punches so hard that it causes an explosion. Causes a wall bounce on hit. Has a pretty long startup time.

Knuckles Glider ( //, // to cancel, air only)
Knuckles glides toward his opponent. The move can be cancelled at any time by pressing any kick button.

Hyper Moves:
Ground Smash ( x2, Level 1 hyper)
Knuckles punches the ground to cause an explosion, which knocks the opponent upwards. Great for juggles.

Upper Combination ( x2, Level 1 hyper)
Knuckles does 2 Rising Uppers, and then finishes with a fiery Rising Upper.

Multi-Meteor Crush ( x2, Level 1 hyper, air only)
Knuckles makes 15 rocks fall from the sky in randomized positions.

Fistful o' Fury ( x2, Level 3 hyper)
Knuckles does a flurry of punches, finishing with an uppercut, followed by an Explosion Fist. A very damaging move.

Just curious, you seem to be mixing and matching voice actors from the various Sonic casts. Are you just going with your favourite takes on each character?
