the title says it all, how long you take to draw a fully scratch built sprite (the sprite only, not the sketching, or getting the idea), and for what size of sprite is that?

for example, I really need 1 hour just to make 1 sprite in low res KoF size, and I wonder if anybody else need that much time as me, and I mean it is not the first time I make it, but everytime again I need 40mns up to 1 hr just to tweak around a single sprite. but again I'm slow in drawing compared to my friends when in hi-school days.

I found out that actually making hires sprite is a bit faster, since individual pixel placement is not as crucial as low res, and it starts to feel like normal drawing.

Less than a minute. Knowing what i want to draw and how i am gonna draw it takes longer.

( then again you do know what style I use so... )

Half an hour usually. Thats including shading and final touch ups.
Kinda strange but I woke up today and her hand was on my ass cheek
I won't suspect anything though I'll take it she was sleeping and didn't notice
you should have flipped over slowly

or 10 mins if there are recycled parts :sugoi:
but it depends on the type of sprite.
it also depends if the technique is already "well implemented" so you get faster once you spent a bit of time trying to understand the style that has to be used.

I would have to time myself, but if its a simple animations (fully sprited) it would take me an hour or two. Again, if its simple.

If I would had done it in one shoot, the twist animation I did would had took me maybe eight hours or more from the ground up.

The charging animation took me a few hours. Oh yeah and I am talking about High res sprites. Low res takes me longer for some reason.

is there a tutorial for spriting...

This is a bit off topic but if the guild needs one just let me know and ill try to make some time to make one.

I wasn't talking about you (I don't even know you). I was talking about some works of mine which ....
uhm ...
... required the recycling of parts belonging to other sprites.

@iced
but still that is fast

@madlax
hmm if I want to make a special sprite just for fun, with secondary lighting and such, it will spend 5-6 hours as well, but I won't do that style for a game, since it will take me a lifetime to finish a complete spritesheet.

@niall & mulambo
that is fast! even in swapping parts, I still need at least 30 mins to smoothen the joined parts.

@Darkdez
1 hour for the whole animation, wow, I would have spent 4 hours for a 5 frames animation.

and usually the part absorbing the bigger portion of that time is face... to convey facial features in such size is very abstract, and thus a little misplaced or wrong tone choice can have so much difference in the result, especially in low res sprite.

  • *something witty yeah*
Depends on the size of the sprite. And my motivation to keep going with it.

32 pixels and less take about 5 minutes. Any more and it can take hours.

It depends on the sprite. If it's a single sprite (or the first in a series of sprites), it can take me anywhere from an hour and a half to as much as five hours. However, once the first sprite is done, then the next ones take considerably less time (30-45 minutes) because I get a feel for what I'm spriting, and have a good idea of what I'm aiming at based off of the first sprite.

from 5 minutes to one hour in regular res, hi res takes me much longer becauseI wanted to properly place everysprite, though if I made a new hd sprite I would stop caring that much about the individual pixels, this after cehcking out some real hires sprites.

in HD sprite I just use 2pixel or even 3 pixel brush to render the clothing instead of 1 pixel, and only use 1 pixel brush to touch up the creases and details.
