This topic is for creators to announce if their creations are open source or whatpart's of it (sprites, codes, etc) can be freely used be other users and/or creators.for example :by Mr. X (url *):xxxx (only sprites)by Mr. Yyyyy (only coding)* : where to get the character or who you should ask to have it if the char is unavailableCreators can add themselves to this list by replying to this thread stating what they want to be open source of their creations. YOU CAN ONLY USE THIS OPEN SOURCE STUFF IF YOU CREDIT THE ORIGINAL CREATORS. You are encouraged to try and contact creators anyway, as many would surely like to know what is being made in part thanks to some of their work. You are also encouraged to allow others to use at least a part of what you've created thanks to the things you use from this list, so others may benefit in the same way that you have.by Elecbyte (http://www.elecbyte.com)KFM, fonts, stages(everything)Source: character's readmeby Loona (http://www.geocities.com/ikariloona):"Too Deep" stage (everything)SoR2 Shiva sprite setCell alpha (everything - includes Cell Junior sprites)Susan Richards (everything)Source: Loona wrote thisby VIB (http://www.geocities.com/vibhp/):Every Mugen creation Source: his websiteby TESTP:Working linkBlue Mary (everything) Guile (everything)Shinobu (everything)Xia Hou Dun (everything)Yuri C-Type (everything)Source: UNITED release 8 documentationby Mouser (http://mouser.mgbr.net/):Keith Wayne (everything)Rasputin (everything)C.Kidd (everything)Terry Bogard (everything)Source: character readmesby Chloe:(http://cutemugen.free.fr/)Lady from laptop said:you can add to your list (don't know if it's a list or anything) all I made, sprites, characters, coding, stages whatever open source.see yahttp://irisnetwork.free.fr/3rd_sounds/ SF3:3S sounds.Source: post by her in this threadby Messatsu:SFZ Guy (only sprites)SFZ Ken (only sprites)SvC Sagat (only sprites and sounds) Source: post by him in this threadGeneral note: requires contact by PMby Useless Chicken, a.k.a. OOhkaayy... I have some gripes about this.1. Will Noobs even bother looking here before starting their own creations?2. Will they even give us credit for the work?3. I don't think many mugen creators will use this, IMO, considering they put a lot of work into their creations and they want to be given the credit for their mugen work.BTW, KFM is already open source, since it was made by Elecbyte, and is a base for all mugen characters.

mary (kof99 i think) by testp is free to use but unavailable to download.I have this mary btw.new Mouser characters are free to use as we can see in the readme : "Reproduction and alteration can be performed freely."this include Keith and Rasputin available here (http://mouser.mgbr.net/)Athena 2k2 sff (sff only) can by use with credit obviously because there is no edited sprites (http://queens.ekzay.org/cutemugen/)

I've also got a complete set of Cell and Cell Junior sprites from DBZ-SB2 for the SNES which I'll gladly share with anyone who wishes to use them.
Regardless of rather they say "open source" for their coding or not I think it's still a good idea to email the original creator.Personally if I was a creator offering this (I'm not btw)I'd like to know who was doing what with my work. Also some creators may wish to dl your work to see if it does in fact advance or detract from their own.I don't think people should be putting other people's names on this list without the original author knowing about it. Fare thee wellFou-Lu

Otherwise, one can take those, change the creator name in DEF file, make another readme.txt and release them as their own.Have fun.
Absolutely (well, almost) everything from me, past, present, and future, is free to use however the heck you want to. Credit is certainly appreciated, but not at all required.Exceptions:-I make no claims about having the right to allow the use of the intellectual property of the game companies I've ripped sprites, music, or designs from. But, I'm not about to disallow it either; I'll leave that up to them to decide about and enforce.-My AI activation code is largely based on various other people's code (albeit with rather heavy modification). My version of the code is free to use, but credit to those people should be given unless they've specified otherwise.-Use of Sffextract is governed by the terms and conditions as specified in the GNU General Public License, a copy of which is distributed along with Sffextract. (If I release any other software in the future, it'll be either the same, or perhaps just public domain.)As for T.E.S.T.P, this is an excerpt from the text file that came with their U.N.I.T.E.D. release 8:QuoteWanna put these charas in your game? Wanna use thesprites or sounds? Sure, go ahead! I don't think I have her, but I'd be surprised if the same policy didn't apply.

MaJiTa made available several sprite sheets of DBZ characters at the ZGTeam site:http://www.zgteam.com/ - look for the "Sprite Sheets" link in the manu to the left, under the "Multimedia" category - you will then find a list of characters organized by game of origin, each link corresponding to a different sprite sheet (single image with most/all sprites the character uses, so you still have to align them in the SFF).

QuoteAnd Terry CVS, also are permissions for him Well, since I didn't really change anything on him (power charge with wrong voice, some effects blurred, an annoying AI, that's all), this one's still labeled "made by Mouser" and he gave his permission for most of his chars.
Brilliant, Iron Mugen will modify it for CVS 3. Thanks for the Warning, now we will be able to follow with wip.
I am more inclined to allow free usage as long as I am notified first. Basically, mailing me to use my stuff + explanation = instant approval.
all the sprites and sounds I´ve ripped are free for anything you wantfor the edited sprites and codes, I'd appreciate if I receive a notification for using them. I won't deny the using of anything, I just want to know well, even if anyone use any stuff I´ve made without notifying me, I wouldn't care that much I still have plenty of life out here however, it can be found at my section at http://bmt.mgbr.net
Any coding and sprites ripped from SvC from Saber Zero are free to use, if the user credits me, of course. To use any sprites that I made, I only require asking me via PM or EMail (zsabre@hotmail.com)

It would like to fire me to all in this topic. From today on, mugen left the world. I not only stop to create, as I leave the community MUGEN. Although nor all to like me, created this topic for having done some friendships here, and having admiration for others.I want to leave clearly that, from today on all my creations are the free one to make use, to make what to want (sprites/codes).I learned much thing in this community, but without a doubt the greater of them was the value of the friendship. Four years of friendships, some quarrels..mas was very rewarding.I wait that they continue strong with its creations and creativity. The MUGEN does not leave to die.Good bye, my friends.

All sprites and most sounds from all my chars belong to me. The sounds are open source, the sprites are not.Nova's AI are belong to MM and Winane's AI activation are belong to him.
Is it too late to post anymore? Well, I just wanted to say that anything I do in the future will be open source, just give me credit.(EDIT: Preferably as NeptuneNavigator2001, not just 01; I would have registered as thus, but it was too long.)Oh, and apparently anything made by Tenebrous is also open source, as stated by XGargoyle at his site:http://xgargoyle.mgbr.netIt's in a news post...Oh, and here's my site... Again...http://www.geocities.com/anewonline/
Well... I contribute with The Sprites I've ripped for Poncho (All Kof 2003 Based sprites, except Haoh Shooh Kooh Ken Body Movements, the Kaiser Wave edit) and My stages will be Open source too (When I animate them)Also All My future work Will be Open source (Just do the same kindness I did to the ones I've Borrowed their stuff, ask foist...)MooPoncho

I've decide that all things I've done on my own on my creations (characters, stages, screenpacks, etc.) are now and will be open-source as long as I'll be informed and credits will be given.P.S: See how such short news could change the world....
Besides a few discrepancies (which are stated on my site), I'm to be considered full-blown open source. This encompasses code, sprites, and sounds...everything! Should anyone be confused, take a moment to view the disclaimer.Eternal AnomalyNote: Feel free to email me, if you seek a character that is no longer available on my site (for coding or the like).
Well, I've allready made my stuff open-source, but.....QuoteAlmost Anyone may feel free to use them...And due to that rule:Quote2. By posting in this forum, you automatically grant permission for anyone to do whatever the heck they want with anything you ever have or ever will release.....Allright. For now even that entire brasil may do what Winane said.Of course you have to put my name somewhere on readme or cns, or even air file, but i don't have to be informed(unless you take a large part of something), since i'm a jerk
While playing EVO - Search for Eden, I've evolved a number of interesting creatures, some by myself using normal evolution, some with the aid of the various crystals in the game. Here are some sprite rips of three of my favorites, which anybody who wants to can use as strikers (given the limits of EVO creatures, they would likely not make good characters by themselves). Here they are:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/deathwish01b/mugen/EVO-Dragon-Spritesheet.gifhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/deathwish01b/mugen/EVOcreature1spritesheet.gifhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/deathwish01b/mugen/EVO-Bat-Spritesheet.gifOne more thing: Here's Mech Sonic from Sonic and Knuckles, also open for usehttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/deathwish01b/mugen/sonic_knuckles_boss_sheet.gifAdmin edit: please refrain from posting so many big images in a way that'll force most people to have to load them - using links is preferable for these situations.Member edit: Sorry. Anywho, I re-did the Mech Sonic sheet (this time saved as a GIF) so whoever wants to should be able to make better use of it. Also with more sprites (found out his gold mode does the buzzsaw-gimmick sometimes if you zoom past him as he's about to attack).Member edit 2: Playing around in NESTen allowed me to get a bunch of screenshots of the first part of Charge Man's stage, which I assembled as one large graphic here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/deathwish01b/mugen/Charge-Man-stage.gifI don't know if the stage already exists in Mugen or not.
Hey Deathwish, those creature sprites are rather interesting, especially the set near the center. You never know...I may find a use for them (even though I don't favor implementing strikers into chars, but oh well).
Anything I (MaJiTa) make/made or ripped.I don't have any of my files I made in the past. But if you have any sheets I made or tutorials I wrote for www.zgteam.com feel free to re-host it.
Hey folks, I like make stages and char for hobby. Of course, I'm not pay to make chars but i love to do it. I'm not a kind of selfish sick creator so i let everyone use MY coding and sprites. Of course i can't say all of them are free beacause somethings aren't my but you can ask me to ask the creator.Pay attention when you use something because there's my friend's hosted stuff too,so before use the things that you need take a look on the author's name. Also put in your char or stage's read-me the stage or char that you got the stuff to avoid trouble. My WebSite:http://www.justnopoint.com/darktemple/
all of Ixnaydk stuff 'r also free source: http://ixnayd.studiosmh.com/he also told me to leave his msn: ixnaydk@hotmail.com, if someone wishes to talk to him 'bout this.PS.: There is just one exception, his Ripclaw character, which was not riped by him, so, he cant tell if the one who riped it, agree with turning the char into free source.
Here's my very little contribution. Conditions to use my work : to be credited as the original creator (like mentionned in the first post), plus : to give a credit to the companies which have created the sprites/sound, etc. (I think it's evident, but...)I would appreciate to be informed if you use my work, but that's not a requirement. NB : by using my work, I mean : copying, editing and even hosting it.All of this isn't valid for people who are known to be unrespecful, like thieves or warehousers (else, that would be a way to "legalize" their acts, and that's not the purpose). For them, they must ask authorization to use my work. All of this isn't also valid for works that aren't mine (I mean : those which are hosted on my site but were not made by me, like Greg's stages, for instance). All my stuff could be found here : http://mike.mugen.free.frIf you find my work good enough to be used ( ), here is what you could do :* DhalsimSSF2 : everything (he's too bad anyway )* Cobra : Just the code (sprites were made by Butchy, so only him could tell what's allowed to do with them). Butchy comes sometimes on Fanatic Mugen's forum, but not often...* KFM-Master : Everything BUT : this char is designed to be a little explained practical example for french people who start in chars creation, so I ask not to delete the comments in the files (CNS, mainly).* Screenpacks (except SSF2) : everything could be used.* SSF2 screenpack : like Cobra, I haven't made this alone, so I only could talk for what I've made : refer to the credit storyboard to see what I've done (mainly : Lifebars, fonts and storyboards). The other parts were made by ghOw, aka Puppet Master. Here's his website : http://www.aprog.fr.st but it's in a neglicted state since July 2003, so I don't think he would answer if you try to contact him...* Stages : all could be used.Hope it could help somebody. Mike Werewolf.
I do know it is not much for now from this newbie but:Hanzo Kogeto original mugen character is free to use as long as credit remains within FPI (<---my) boundaries. Sprites can be modified/edited at choice as long as they aren't turned into offensive material (and I mean all offensive material)http://www.furnation.com/foxphoenix/mugen.htmMail me if you need original sprites. Note that this doesn't give property right on the character himself as hes been my intellectual copyright since his creation in 1992.Mugen coding is basically Elecbyte's with modifications to fit my character and soon will coontain Winane's AI methods. This coding is open source as long as Elecbyte and Winane change their minds.Edit: Here's something else I would like to add. While not really full open source, feel free to use the midis in my site. Of game characters I have some Sonic and Gouki songs. Other songs are either from commercial music or originals for my characters.http://www.furnation.com/foxphoenix/midi.htmI even recorded most of my originals into mp3. If you want to hear the real thing (you know how midi works do you?) just PM me.
In the event of the release of this char (or if i straight-up give up on the crazy thing), My W.I.P. Will be Open Source as long as you ask me, and say "Please". As I may need to ask others, and say "Please". But until then, Don't ask, please
I guess I will join the open source sprites movement.Better than late than never I guess,Anyway,I was basically going through the melty blood game looking for various effects that I may find useful, Then I decided, what the hell, Ill just rip everything that I can.So insted of just extracting all character images for just a few things then delete the rest, I figured that some one out there may have a use for these various sprites. So here they are, and they are free to the open public to and may be used however so.http://www.justnopoint.com/syndicate/Enjoy!-SyN-p.s. TDS, thanks for the new host, Ill update it over the weekend. For some reason, I couldn't get all of the basic fight fx sprites like I had hoped for but I managed to get a good amount.
I'm launching today my new site. As TDS converted me to open source, I added a dedicated page for that in it.It's a tiny start, a bit ridiculous by the way with only one hi-res anim available, but eh ! the amount of available stuff will grow along the next month (at least : another anim + half of a char). Permissions to use them are detailled on my site. (To sum up : users have to credit the original creator of the game. Then, crediting me for ripping would be appreciated. )New adress (shorter) : http://madahine.net/bdi/btw the older adress works too.EDIT : except because a fucking joke from my host the only url working now is :http://madahine.phpnet.org/bdi/Btw I released the 2nd super BG from rotd, both available in opensource page of the site.
Just tossing in a reference to The Impaler's statement about his UMK3 ninjas, most of which incomplete, all open-source, requiring only that credit be given to Impaler for the work that he's put into them so far:http://www.mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=21803.msg210043#msg210043The ninjas can be found here:http://snow.prohosting.com/pitmugen

I've got a question. If I uses somebody elses sprites with permission, and make a char, can I let the sprites of the char to be open source?
TaZaR said, June 15, 2005, 12:03:39 amI've got a question. If I uses somebody elses sprites with permission, and make a char, can I let the sprites of the char to be open source?only if the original author agrees to make his sprites open source.
The problem is that, we have permission for a char for Project X from old times, to fully use it, and I'm editing this char's sprites, but the original author is no more online (left mugen scene), so I can't ask him, if I could make the sprites open source.
Make your edits open source. Or since it is easier to get full game rips now than long ago just use artmoney and rerip the sprites. Then you would have the "authority" to make them open source.
Hmm, if I make the char with other author's sprites, than I later rip the sprites myself too, and release the sprites too with the char, can I make it open source?
Only AFTER you rip the sprites.Since you will have taken the time like the creator had done you won't have to replace the sprites with your own. To help others more when you release the newly ripped sprites (if you are using artmoney or some debug method) don't crop them. Release the sprites like I do as a pack and not cropped. This way people can have the axis. You may even discover you need to fix some axis in your creation. (depending on how the original author ripped the sprites)
Great, if I'll have time for it I'll rip the sprites later, and make my char into open source. Thanks for helping me out.

I already contacted Sepp to see if he wants access to my database to add anything NWM Forum may have had of value to this forum. My vacation kinda changed my life so I won't be doing anything else anymore with mugen, hacking, ripping, etc. I guess I'll pack up my uncleaned rips and upload them as 7zip files. The NWM.com and NWM.net will stay up untill april of 2006. Feel free to upload my spritepacks to your websites or whatever to preserve them on the net anytime before or after my space goes down.

There are different types of "free" and different types of "open source"*, and I see some people aren't clearly specifying which type they mean. So as to reduce the chances of confusion in the future, I'd suggest to anyone who hasn't already clearly specified, please do so. In particular, it'd be good to specify whether credit is required, whether hosting is allowed, whether (and how much) modification is allowed, whether commercial use is allowed, whether an attempt to notify you of use is required, and whether you'd like to "copyleft" your work ().If public domain isn't your thing, I'd suggest taking a look at the set of available Creative Commons licenses, and either choose the one most to your liking, or use them as inspiration for coming up with your own terms of use.*And I rather dislike the term "open source". Technically, nearly all Mugen stuff that gets released is open source, even if it's not free (as in freedom) source. =P

I already said this in my release thread, but it's also worth mentioning here. Ryu-X, Ken-X and PokeAthena are totally open-source. You can do anything you want with them. Feel free. The possibilities are limitless! I currently have no real website to link to, but Random Select should have them if you'd like them.
I know I'm not a know mugen creator, but when I do, whatever I create is free, just PM and tell me what you plan to do.
@ Limited MoonHah. I love the little descriptions you put on everything in the coding ^^This will be a great character to play around with and slap coding here or there around for my WIP till I can grasp it better.Plus now I am going to have to think of things to type next to each [state] just so I can further steal from you Yay I actually coded again for the 1st time in 2 months EDIT: Typos
Hehe, glad you like.I hope Ken ends up being useful to you (if that's who you're using; just guessing from the links in your sig). I'd love to see the result.
Actually it's Ryu. The help I asked for in my sig was put up early so that maybe the edits would be ready before I got started on Ken Thanks again for both however.
Hi, i want to confirm something in that list. Not only Homero y Kenshin.you can use the sprites from all my chars.KenshinShishioHomeroKrustyLeelaFred Flinstonemr. IncredibleElastigirletc. ... and you can make enterely new chars with them, even u can modified all the sprites as well.my only condition is : if anyone use one of my chars to make a new one, he has to share his new version of the char, with all the community.if u think to use one of my chars to create a private char, don't tell to anybody so if u post any changes, you must to share it.also if you modified one of my chars, drawing more sprites if it needed, when you share the final result, i could help to retouch the new edited sprites, of course if u let me do that I think the Idea is to see more chars, or better chars, to have fun with Mugen for so much time
If I decide to make a character using other creators sprites, but don't release it, do I still have to ask permission?
No. You need permission only if you release it. Btw, just a suggestion: this thread's okay with it, but generally if the last post in a thread is a few months old and you haven't got much to add to it, best not to post in it.
Hi!Here´s my list:Ami and Yumi: Only SND (it´s open source due the fact it was ripped from a flash game by Zack from the Puffy Shrine)and minor effects. Sprite Packs (many submited on mgbr and in my forum which is here: http://puffyamiyumidreams.jconserv.net): I autorize all my full sprite packs for the people who want to join my Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: Mugenised project. So e-mail or send a pm.See you.
If possible I'd like the full-open source permission changed to 'ask me in advance'...back when that statement was made things were very different, and I didn't count on being as active as I am
I would've appreciated usage of the strikeout feature. It could be confusing for anyone who doesn't pay attention to the edit times. In the process of changing.
The Dreamslayer said, December 10, 2006, 01:39:58 amIf you ever stop being "as active as you are now" can we change them back to open source then? Maybe But I'm afraid at this point I'll probably be one of the few riding this stuff out to the very end...x_o

Well, new rules say it's okay, and if you give credit to the unknown author in the readme, it should be fine. He cannot sue you for thievery... he did it himself for coding.
No rules against it, common courtesy states that you could/should state the origin ( where you found them etc) to portray respect for the original coder/spriter. But thats ONLY common courtesy, no one gonna sue you internet moneys even if you dont do it.
just wanted to make sure before i begin work. don't want to start something and then half way through it find it out it's not proper..
All CNS, CMD and SND files for my characters are open source.Sprites and Sprite Edits (that includes M.B. and Dana D. Shotoman) you need the contact me via e-mail or personal message first. Holla.LATE EDIT: Everything for Fara Phoenix (including sprites) is 100% open source. Enjoy.

Totally forgot about this thread. Everything I make is pretty much open for anyone to use. The only thing that's almost not covered is a few of the Big Bang Beat sparks in Ren Idagawa as they were ripped by Sion. The party here would like credit for those. (I might end up replacing these to cut down on any possible controversies in the future)On a side note, I thought Guild was already in the "everything is Open Source" mode, so is this thread really necessary?
All my stuff I created char, lifebars, and stages, and soon screenpacks are open source feel free to use all or any of it dont worry about contacting me if your going to release it just release it always and forever my stuff will be open source please enjoy
