So it's like uncharted but with less shooting, more looting and better story?

That guy's design makes him look like an older Nathan Drake. Either way, it looks pretty good, I really like Naughty Dog, they are an excellent gaming company, and they really know game design.

If this was rendered on a PS3 as they say it was then I can already see some good things ahead for this title. Perhaps it'll be what Dead Island was supposed to be.

The last of us is the next big chapter of Naughty Dog after Crash Bandicoot, Jak n Daxter and Uncharted

Does this mean that Jak games are on permanent hiatus just like Crash?  :(

Crash I had thought was under a new dev, but they still acknowledge Jak as I could of sworn he was apart of some multiplayer game last year.

i dont know that, but it seems since naughty dog are a company which likes to "think" in chapters, they put a lot effort into a game which they design from the start with the hope to make a successful brand with multiple sequels

thats at least what they did with crash, jak and now uncharted, it is only my gues but i bet we will see a new jak and daxter next year done by  a different company..and maybe a new uncharted in the future done by a different company as well, the last of us will be the next series by naughty dog for the next couple of years...i bet

Naughty Dog sold the crash bandicoot copyrights over ten years ago already

the last jak and daxter was done by a diffferent developer for psp and ps2, jak was in move heroes for ps3 which was also not done by naughty dog

Naughty Dog wants to "change the f***ing industry" with The Last of Us
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-12-13-naughty-dog-wants-to-change-the-f-ing-industry-with-the-last-of-us

Quote
Naughty Dog has delivered a scathing verdict on the "poor" standard of storytelling in video games, revealing its aim to "change the f***ing industry" with upcoming PlayStation 3-exclusive The Last of Us.

Speaking at the studio's offices in Santa Monica on Monday, creative director and writer Neil Druckmann told Eurogamer his team wanted to "raise the bar" in order to make other game developers realise: "Okay, I really need to learn the craft of storytelling, I really need to involve my actors in this in order to get realistic performances and realistic actors. That's what we want to do."

He also argued that reviewers were too quick to praise average storytelling, which could hold back the medium's development.

"We try so hard at Naughty Dog to push things," he said. "And then games come out that are fun and exciting and get visceral things right, but to read in reviews that they have an amazing story is disheartening to us because we work so hard at it.

"As critics we need to raise the bar, otherwise no-one's going to change. We're going to keep pushing ourselves, and kill ourselves to make this story happen - but hope that by doing it, the rest of the industry is going to take notice and try to do the same thing."

Elaborating on where other games went wrong, Druckmann, previously lead designer and co-writer on Uncharted 2, told Eurogamer: "We mistake quantity for quality. We don't focus on characters, we focus on monsters or [the] gruesome."

So what is The Last of Us about? "This is going to sound corny, and it might not appeal to gamers, but I would say it's a love story," said Druckmann. "It's not a romantic love story, it's a love story about a father-daughter-like relationship.

"We approached this genre because we felt no-one is getting to the heart of it. It tells you something about the human condition - that's what you want to do as a storyteller.

"We're not saying every game needs a strong, compelling and dramatic story, but if you are going to make a narrative-based game then you better learn the craft."

Game director Bruce Straley, who held the same role on Uncharted 2, added: "It's not just a zombie game. It's going to be a completely amazing experience that no player has experienced for this genre, the characters, the development, everything."

Realism is already boring me day by day...
Original characters are ending up to look like Nathan Drake, Zoey or George Clooney.
*headdesk* I can't UNSEE!!!!

On a side note, This looks like an awesome concept already.

What this man said.

The Last of Us, in many ways, is an extension of the work Naughty Dog has already done on the Uncharted franchise. Like the adventures of Nathan Drake, it is a third-person cover shooter with a strong emphasis on AI companions. However, unlike Uncharted, The Last of Us is supposed to be a survival game. And with that change, the gameplay must be tweaked.

"There's more consequences to getting shot," director Neil Druckmann explained. Instead of having automatically regenerating health--a standard feature in most shooters--the team is opting to have "persistent health," harking back to the era of the health pack.

Healing "takes time," meaning it may not be possible in a tight gun fight. "How I heal myself has consequence," Druckmann explained to Game Informer. Unlike with Nathan Drake, players won't be able to just run into a fight, guns blazing.

Because health is always a concern, one thing the team is conscious of is how players will interact with Ellie, Joel's non-playable partner. Druckmann promises that she will be intelligent. "She's not going to break stealth for you... [and] she can make decisions on her own." He says that "when joel's cornered, she can pick up an improvised weapon and throw it at him."

While some of the greatest games created--Ico and Resident Evil 4--had players taking care of an AI partner, Druckmann says that "if we made an entire game that was an escort mission, we would hate it."

What the heck do they mean by "How I heal myself has consequence,"?
I'm sure trying to heal in the middle of a group enemies is a pretty bad idea especially since it seems they'll be making the healing more like Left 4 Dead had it.
