So uhh, the time has come for me to start playing Capcom vs SNK 2 in depth for study reasons related to a full game project of mine.

My only gripe is that I can't play fighting games for shit with a keyboard, and for that , I'm in need of a good controller (or joypad, whatever the hell its called) to be able to play better.

Can any of you recommend me a good controller/joypad I can use to play fighting games more efficiently? Thanks.

I use a Playstation 2 pad via usb adapter whenever it is possible. The xbox 360 controller is great because it is supported by the most newer games but its not good for fighting game in my opinion, have problems to do specials with it.

I could give that a try, it shouldn't be hard to find a PS2 controller and a USB adapter around here (ok, that might not be totally true for the first).

I'll keep this labelled as unsolved for now, in the case that anyone has other recommendations.

It's all preference, though almost anyone who plays a lot of fighters uses a Sony controller or an arcade stick.
Whatever is more comfortable.

Dpad = Sony
Analog = Microsoft
Stick = Competitive/Skill grind

I played on keyboard cause I didn't have a choice at the time... pretty easy/comfy when you get use to it. I still do, to this day. You can try that.

While I tend to use keyboard for my Fighting Games, trying to do a 360 motion is quite a pain. Therefore, I use an Xbox 360 controller for such maneuvers.

Of course, it is the only controller I have here, but it works quite well.

If you are in the mood for DIY projects, I totally recommend building a fightstick.

I did it, and it was the best thing that I could have done.

And the best thing about doing it yourself, is that you can use exactly the parts that u want (eg: buttons, joystick, pcb, etc) and customize every possible aspect of it.

All the info that I used to build mine can be found here:

It's definitely the fightstick's bible!

Building your own with a decent case from scratch may be cheaper, and will definitely give you more compatibility if you get something like a Brook PCB for the insides.

Especially if you go ghetto AF and make your stick from a Papa John's box or something, but I can't vouch for the structural stability of such a thing. As Moo pointed out to me during EVO, though, you'll want 8 buttons so you can navigate menus in games like SFV.
