Of course Ayane is going to be a Ninja Gaiden rep rather than DOA because NG is basically her second home at this point.
Besides, DOA already has Kasumi, Honoka and Marie Rose, it would be too lopsided to include Ayane and add her to DOA rather than NG.

And I have no problem with the clashing of styles, makes them being from differing worlds even more apparent.

Yes.... but you have females from Ninja Gaiden that could be used instead... but I guess it comes down to popularity.
To each his own on clashing styles I guess.. to me it kinda pulls you out of the immersion in the game. Coz it's weird when you are facing realistic looking opponents and then have hyper-stylized anime character thrown into the mix.. but I guess that's just me..
It's the same problem I have with CVS and CFJ
