They'll repeal it within a week, just like all the other times they tried to update their TOS with stupidly vague language that would de-monetize 80% of the videos on their site.  There's no way they're actually going to stick with a rule as stupid as "Nobody on the internet is allowed to say a bad word."

If they go after hippies now, that's fine with me. Please tell me they're going after Vegans next.
I thought that was fear-mongering bullshit at first, but the same channel actually has a 'pro' nuclear energy video as well.

So no dick jokes, no ass jokes, no boob jokes, no Aristocrats jokes, no stick figures maiming each other, no documentations of domestic abuse videos.
No "fuck", "shit", "damn", "hell", "cock", "balls", "tits", or any other variations of swearing, like: "darn", "crap", "crud", etc.
No drug abuse videos?

And no videos of national and international history, politics, culture, etc.?

"If you want to monetize your video, you have to bow and present your 'butt' to the SJW strap-on and let them 'use' you first".

Youtube, to paraphrase AVGN: "You fist-fucked yourself straight up your doggy diarrhea asshole!"

Lovely idea Youtube.

Given what's been said, odds are good these rulings will either be repealed or altered in part or in whole.

Who, for example, is exactly determining what is and is not controversial? Controversy varies from country to country, after all.

EDIT: Did Twitter ever change that thing they did that was similar to this?

it's just more rules with very vague wording that can be open to almost any interpretation, so they can demonetize any video and can point to the rules as the reason. same thing as twitter and facebook. expect no consistency because of the sheer amount of content (just like twitter). expect videos that get reported a lot to be automatically demonetized.

All it tells me is that it was (probably) false-flagged, Youtube pulled the monetizing, guy argued for it, got it back.

Looks like business as usual, really.

So does this mean pewdiepie ain't getting shit for all those videos where he said "*someone* is gonna get raped!!!"?
The policy sounds good to me baby :3c

it's because they are already content with what they have done, mugen is not a paying job so as long as the charcter works for a creator that's enough; one's persons crouching while running is another person's change it to pots style.

Sorry to mess with your echo chamber boys, but I've been searching far and wide for a video that can make me give a damn about this subject, and I finally found it.

TL;DR YT doesn't owe anyone jack shit, this move makes sense from its perspective, nobody's being censored, fuck Franco.

The move is fine.  The execution of said move is not.

Read the fine print on the new TOS and it is almost impossible to argue that it's unreasonable.  It gives leeway to swearing and vulgar content if it's used in an informative or comedic/entertaining context, and not one intended to be shocking.  The problem is that it isn't making the distinction because they are using automated bots to determine what is unmonetizable because having live human beings is not feasible.  The problem is not the new TOS itself, but the poor handling of the situation and the way YT has not communicated with its users or made a better effort to properly enforce it.

Remember: The videos aren't getting removed, the content "creators" just aren't getting paid for them, and if they want to be paid, they gotta make sure they're following the rules (or provide an argument as to why it's okay).

It's pretty easy to qualify for monetizing videos. Hell, my WarioAkuma account on Youtube was given the offer to monetize (which I turned down for obvious reasons). As you mentioned, it's impossible for human beings to constantly monitor every damn thing that gets uploaded to Youtube, so they *need* an automated process to help trim the fat (and if my channel qualifying for monetization is any indication, there's a LOT of fat to trim). And yes it's going to make mistakes, so that's when a concerned content creator has to actually take action and prove that their video is okay, which is when things *can* be taken care of by actual human beings.

The vid Fubs posted was pretty good, but here's another way of looking at it. Say you walk into McDonald's and go to the manager and say "Hey guess what, I'm gonna start working here in hopes of getting money." No interview, just taking up space in the restaurant and demanding to be part of the payroll. Strangely the manager decides that he'll let you in. So you're on the register taking orders and you're regularly swearing or giving your customers lip, or you're making the hamburgers and you make it wrong and just expect the customer to deal with it. Your manager is starting to take notice that you're a piece of shit worker, yet instead of firing you, he says "Hey, I don't mind you working here, but you're not going to get paid a dime for anything you do if you keep that shit up."

This is the bizarre business model that Youtube has, which I probably don't need to tell you is way more lenient than any real job you can find, even the worst of the worst-paying ones.

When you start monetizing your videos, Youtube ceases to be a platform for your "freedom of speech" or whatever. It becomes a job, and every job has rules that you have to follow, and when you are being questioned on how you perform your job, it's your responsibility to prove your innocence or accept the consequences of your actions.
