Hello,

Thank you for reading my topic. I am putting together a sort of "best of" compilation. It has always been my dream to have one of these that wasn't filled with what makes mugen games a mugen game....so that is to say, cheap chars, unfair bosses etc. etc. I will now show some screenshots

Made my first intro today and it's for Kyo Kusanagi of K.O.F!

This was a fun project to do while getting ready to do more portrait work.....which I really don't want to do.

Tonight I will be releasing my edit of(easy chars) "Oren Ishii" Of KIll Bill fame.

For the those who are scratching their heads, this is O-ren Ishii:

MATURE ONLY.....

Now, my concept going into this was simply.....O-ren is a normal human being and she didn't train with a legendary fighter or fight demons or any of those things so how does she belong in my "War of the Immortals?"

Simple, she's an assasin with a legendary sword. "The finest steal ever carved by human hands."

The Hitori Hanzo sword.

I will now ask you to view my showcase video before I go more in depth:

I fixed all of the hitboxes and hurtboxes. (let me tell you they were disgustingly bad)

I then boosted her power way above normal and this was done because of her sword.

As I stated earlier. O-ren is just an assasin so her health is ridiculously low. One good combo and she's done!

I also changed her projectile to be a hadoken!

Her portraits are set to my screenpack(logansam) so there is that to be aware of.

Judging from the video her attacks are really slow, you could speed them up a little more so they can transition smoother. And she's pretty overpowered, you could lower the damage she gives.

I can agree to that but unfortunately I only have like 10 frames of sprite to work with and I don't make sprites myself :(

Working with what I have, this was the best I could do.

I can release today. I said I would release this weekend. I would personally prefer continuing to work on it until Thursday and releasing it as a Christmas present to the world.

However, I said I could release today so if more than 5 posters comment telling me to release today I will release today and call it a "Beta Version .80" or some shit.

I would rather wait but it's up to y'all

I tried to get chars that fought well against each other so A.I was the main concern.

It's a generic "tournament" type plot. The idea is trying to find the best from all of the various universes. Thus "war of the immortals." Oro mentioning it doesn't matter at all, it was just a small tidbit type thing and explains why you have to fight ryu first. I'm not sure if we can program a mid-level boss with a cut-scene but if we can please let me know how!

I put the info about Ken because I'm trying to get as much of the characters personality so that fans of the character can get invested.

This is my first week even messing around with intros and I think ken's is quite good. I'll admit that Jin's needs more work but that was my first time even attempting it in fighter factory 3.

ABOUT O-REN:

The most important thing for me in this endeavor is to make a mugen that actually practices and teaches true fighting game mechanics. O-ren was a test and judging by your response my test was a success!

I wanted players to "play" the game. Trust me when I tell you O-ren was much much worse:

She's also hidden and not in arcade mode because I want those who are not familiar with fighting games to play as her. She is op but she is also insanely weak and that makes it so YOU HAVE to play the game like a fighting game.

You have to think about where you are on the screen, where you're opponent is and what your best option is for the moment.

She was made like that on purpose :)

But if that's really your main concern, why not try to program the AI or ask someone who is able to?

But if that's really your main concern, why not try to program the AI or ask someone who is able to?

I have found A.I patches for every character that did not have good a.i.  I want the A.i to be good to replicate a real fighting game and to give players a challenge but also be fair. I did try to learn how to code A.I but was not able to understand it.

All A.I is aggressive and they have amazing matches against each other.


It is my goal to have all the A.I. in arcade mode that can be changed via difficulty and should be easy enough for me to pass the game on easy -1 on my keyboard and hard 8 on my arcade stick but still provide a challenge.

im gonna be blunt. stop focusing on the ai if the entire compilation is barely edited and the gameplay for some characters are just broken. if you REALLY want to make this a proper game, atleast make the roster balanced and consistent and stop giving flimsy excuses on how gameplay is broken on certain chars.

im not even sure logansam is telling the truth about not getting your message, how would he have even known about this screenpack otherwise? he never visits this forum and pretty much only goes to mmv, i know he's a big stickler for "permissions" and stuff, so im thinking as soon as he saw "his" stuff edited through the link you gave him he went here to demand you to stop, for some odd reason. idk, it seems really fishy to me.

I've been doing this for like a month now. I had to change all of those portraits and resize a bunch of stuff.

Your name is still in the first screen, I'm giving credit.

I was already finished but you have lit a fire under me and I'm going to edit the fuck out of this now.

I was going to leave it mostly untouched but now....you won't recognize it.

I'm sorry but I've been messing around with your screenpack for a while. Besides, isn't that what this community is all about?

Why release stuff if you didn't want it to be edited?

I've edited a lot of the characters in my roster, gave a lot of them new original custom palettes, edited their power and defense, hit sparks, etc. So that means I made it, right? You made a mugen compilation. Just like everyone else on this forum, and countless others. No one releases them. They are not "full games". If you want to see a full game, check out the new DBZ Z2 full game Iced released. That's a full game. Or ShinRei's Capcom vs SNK Universe, where he edited every single character so they are all balanced with the same hit sparks and basic moves (rolls, dodges, etc), added tag functionality to everyone and made it playable online.  In other words, you should add something original and new or unique to a project before you start claiming you did all this work and it's your original work. Those games took real work. Way more than a month.

Just my opinion. Do what you want, just don't expect everyone to fall over backwards for you.

I'm in a bad mood, so please excuse me if I came off a bit too harsh.

Isn't everything on mugen just a minor edit? No one here invented these characters. We have no right to do any of this. Did he draw those comics? Did he play the music? Did he code everyone of those characters? Can you even download the full game? NO. You can download a screenpack and I did but I'm editing the fuck out of it. I decided on the roster. I changed the portraits. I downloaded every char. I made sure every char had good matches on hard 8 against one another. I fixed hitboxes, ticks and everything I could on a large amount of the roster. I added 80+ stages and put music on all of it. I put stages to everyone you fight against in arcade mode. I fixed all of the vs screen portraits. I fixed the victory screen portraits. I made this screen pack available for 1.1! This is a 1.0 screen pack. I added the street fighter 3 lifebars and updated them from 1.0 to 1.1. I'm in too far. I'm finishing this because I'm barely 30% done but this will get released.

all of you know that i put my best to bring a good work to the mugen, i take time from my family and my job to finish my projects. i really like to share my work with all of you, because for my that is my payment.
the joy to see that my work is making someone happy, i know some of you have to work and take some time from your rest to play deserve a really good character.
i dont like "edits" i PERSONALLY think that if you made the edits and only change the logos you don't bring nothing new to the mugen players.

Goldeneneragaming , be more polite, and I hope you start editing your own stuff eventually, editing others stuff only goes so far in the path of learning, it would also help if you kept a better attitude towards your fellow users.

logansan, editing stuff is how most people learn, and on this forum is not forbidden at all, while edited stuff will typically be lower quality than the original its a normal step on the ladder of newcomers, so please don't be rude to people that do so, even tho i understand the temptation. See it as a compliment more than an insult, hes so much your fan that he can't work without your work.

Editing being of lower quality *cough* is subjective, but uh as someone said above I suggest making things more uniform. If you do edit, edit it to the point that they wouldn't even recognize it & question rather it's truly an edit or not ha. You have to do more than change "values" with the cast of characters you have there, but I mean you have it in the title "compilation" so I assume you understand this? I get where you are coming from if you have a similar vision/idea doesn't hurt to improve on something pre-exsisting or use it as a base. Time constraints & what not, but you really have to make it stand out & make core system changes before truly calling it your own. When it comes to "full games" though, things should definitely be consistent. Presentation is also key. One thing that is true though, you really do learn from it. If you really want to make this unique take one characters system & create a template. You could say.. Give them all Third Strikes core system. Everyone should work the same & still maintain their unique traits(that's where your values come in).

Imma come off harsh but it's simply my opinion, both look pretty bad.

GEG is clearly taking the time and learning from editing this, and he's OPENLY stating it's an edit so there should be no issues. We know it's an edit. We know what he edited because he gave credit to it.
GEG, honestly, if you feel a ways about it I'd suggest just edit someone else's screenpack who won't have a titty attack.

Couldn't the same thing be said for your chars? The sprites aren't from scratch after all...

If it's about time, GEG is taking the time to work on this edit. It's not that serious. He's giving credit to you instead of claiming it as all his own work.
Everything is an edit. You had to edit the default mugen sp to make yours, no?

There's nothing wrong with edits, in my opinion. I just think that they should be, ya know, edited, before taking credit for it. Changing a few values, or portraits, is not enough. Looking at it, you can understand why Logansam might be feeling a certain way about it. He really just added characters to Logansam's sp and put his name on it. That seems a little suspect to me.

With all that said, I really don't want to be a part of the sprite police or anything like that. I just respect Logansam, he puts a lot of work into his releases, and he is just about the only person making quality DC Comics characters these days (along with like two other people). So I guess that kind of made me feel a certain way, ha. He did give credit, so yeah, maybe I'm making something out of nothing. None of it really has to do with me, so I probably should have stayed out of it.

Anyway, listen to what Rei says, he knows his $#!+ when it comes to these kinds of things.

I've learned how to make palettes.

All day, I've been fixing chars who wouldn't switch their defaults on mugen 1.1

I got to spiderman and noticed he only had 8 palettes.

This forced me to learn how to make palettes.

Dude, you are like me a newcomer here so I am gonna give you a bit of feedback.
Fix you portraits so many of them have a white line around them also when you re-size them do not strech them.
Use renders if need be just keep them consistent  and one size.
This is a render, with a transparent background.

Use these they do not have  a white outline around them and DO NOT STRECH THEM.
Your select screen will look much better.

Version .33 released.

New things in this release:

New intro
All portraits are "finished" - will be returning before 1.0 release to put a black stroke around them so they have a shadow instead of the white outline.
New gohan from hyper dbz Christmas release: much respects and thanks to Balthazar & Cybaster.
New options screen and some changes to the main menu - will be doing more changes to main menu before version 1.0
All chars have at least 9 palettes: more than a handful made by me but most made by original creators.
All A.I. is aggressive.
Kyo and Sean are still broken and will be either worked on or in the case of kyo replaced.


So yeah, small changes but I wanted to upload this because I will be getting into a.i. now and I want a backup incase I break any of the chars.

I noticed pots Ryu has some insane recovery frames that I will have to edit because for example, he's safe on sweep and that makes 0 sense.

I have no idea of the nakoruru match up and that's why I lost that one, karin kept me honest as well.

I went into the mugen.cfg and put it so the a.i. picked random pals to showcase the amount of palettes now available.

I played on medium 4 because pots ryu is a pain right now.

There's still a lot to work on and I plan on doing it in this order:



Give anyone who doesn't have a parry a parry.

Fix A.i. so that it responds to being set on easy, medium and hard on everyone.

Balance testing to make sure I can beat everyone on hard 8.

balance testing to make sure the computer can have entertaining matches against itself on hard 8 with the entire cast.

balance testing to make sure easy is infact easy, medium is fact medium and hard is in fact hard according to my standards.

Input the story mode intro and outro for everyone.

Fix powerbars so that for example; Kens is not doubled up and looks funny.

Fix powerbars to get that one pixel fixed so I'll be changing the range on that.

And finally going back and shading all of the portraits/changing the main menu to look more like my own vision.

Thanks for the support and help and keep an eye out on development help because I think that's going to be my home away from home for the next year or so.

I don't know how your screenpack works, but  use ONE size for p1 positions and ONE size for p2 positions.
That  should do fine. If you have to resize do not strech make the ports bigger  or smaller but do not strech.

what I mean is make all of your BIG vs ports one size which suits your screenpack the best.
here's some clean cut renders.No white behind them no black just the picture itself no deleting a background in photoshop just resize it as you see fit for your screenpack and slap it in there.

But it's not that easy(I wish it was)

Take for example this ryu:

Perfect render right?

But it's a jpg and will only let me save in jpg.

The problem is fighter factory 3 only takes png or bmp files.

I have to download the jpg and re-save it as one of those files and the transparency is lost in the process.

I've been using gimp to make the transparency return and that's why you have the white outlines.

I don't have photoshop.

I will get back to portraits at a later date and I truly appreciate your help.

If there's something I'm doing wrong with the portraits and for example I can use that ryu render than please let me know but I think that's the issue here

TBH judging the vids there's no way you can balance them since their gameplays are completely different and their dmg values on their silly attack from each other and its a stupid idea  to put a parry on a guilty gear character

yet still compilation what ever it looks

Mugen - Battle of Legends - version .39 released! - quick parry exhibition/test

Reasons why this is version .39 and not .40:

Rogue parries when she feels like it...have to fix.
Batman has no air parry.
Hibiki takane is straight broken...don't pick her.
A certain stage causes crash....have to find and delete.
other problems.....


Reason why I'm releasing now:

Everyone besides rogue, dante and hibiki tanake has parries. Batman is missing air parry but the others work.

tired of this and going to take a break for a week or so.

download will be here once released in an hour or so.

I need a.i. coders, portrait makers/editors, stage creators, coders testers and anyone with any knowledge to put this together.

I view myself as a director and would still want to be the main person in charge of how everything works out.

I need help...This is too much to do by myself.

Also Ryu was never cheap. Rather than take things away from him. Give everyone the same kit or similar. He is as good as it gets as a base to work from. I'll have to check & see just what you did to him.

I have to agree that most of p.o.t.s chars are as good as it gets. There wasn't much wrong with him but some stuff didn't make any sense.

I didn't like that he could crouch medium kick into jodan geri and be safe on block so I added some ticks there.

I didn't like that he was safe after a shoryuken on block so I added ticks there.

I didn't like that he was safe on  sweep so I added some ticks there.

Said version of Ryu played as if he was in marvel or street fighter x tekken but I want one that's like street fighter 3.

My whole purpose of this game is to have everyone be as fair and balanced as street fighter 3 because in my opinion street fighter 3 is the best fighting game of all time.

Granted, Chun Li was a bit op but whatever.

I've decided to create a "credits" scene after finishing arcade mode so every creator will have their name on screen and listed to what they created.

Battle of Legends version .4 to be released soon.

Things new in this version:

Rogue now has all parries.
Hibiki Takane is now playable and still has the A.I by Taikan
Batman now has ground parry, standing parry, air parry if I can fix it by release. Added fix to all win poses from the original by cybaster, I messed up the cn.s by adding parries and then fixed my own errors.
Akuma is easier to beat.
Sean has added frames to his tatsu.
Ryu is less safe on block.
About 10 new stages.

Huge thanks to cyanide and odb and everyone for the help in the development forums....

Still have work to do

I'm really tired.

I hope every other char I have isn't as difficult to edit hitsparks on as the guilty gear chars were.

I mean fuck...how many sprites can you have?

On a similar note...what do you guys think is the best background for supers?

I think those may actually be the default which means I was unable to get the cvs2 ones from the gigahertz download. I like the way Jam and millias super looks so I may leave it that way. However, I love that K.O. screen so if you can send me that and tell me how to code it then I'd totally use it for everyone

Added cm punk by seanatly then added stage by oldgamer and Supaman2525 then gave him his theme song.

This is still a project of mine.

I ran into a snag where a strange sound was coming up with characters that I changed the hitsparks for and this hurt my motivation.

I then got busy with other stuff but I'm back for more!

I will be releasing version .40 once I get the sound issue fixed but there's still plenty of work to do with the hitsparks...

I have a paypal and I'd be willing to pay someone to do the rest of the hitsparks for me so if anyone wants to do it then let's talk prices.

I'm also looking to make a version of this I aptly titled

"Super Hyper Intense Tournament Series"

Battle of Legends

"Fantastic Ultra Combo Knowledge" EDITION

OR

"S.H.I.T.S. F.U.C.K.E.D." where every character will be a la marvel and have insane juggles so if anyone thinks they can help or wants to make some money then let me know.

Of course both of these project won't be finished for many, many years but expect betas to be out soon.

Patch notes:

EVERY CHARACTER now has a parry.

Every character has air parry excpt Batman( still a w.i.p.)

Every character should have multiple colors a.k.a pals

Arcade mode fixed up to have more characters in.

Arcade mode much tougher in this version

New intro + new character portraits.

New stages/new music

Buffs and nerfs for many but still lots to fix.

Hitsparks changed to cvs2 hitsparks for a good amount of cast.

Fixed annoying sound to Ken and Ibuki chars.
