Sprites for Cody/Death from Final Fight: Streetwise

Since I've demonstrated a general inability to code, I decided I would at least give spriting a shot.  I decided my first project will be Cody's Death form in Final Fight:  Streetwise.  As a base, I'm using Cody from SFA3 (obvious enough).  I have several screenshots of Cody/Death thanks to Two Best Friend's playthrough to use as a reference.  Also, I scaled up the base sprites to account for Death's increased size due to the GLOW.

Here's a very early version of the first standing sprite, where I've rotated the arm sprites to be closer to Death's pose in FF:SW:



Obviously, there's a lot of work yet to be done; but with time, I think it'll be something usable.

Any advice, tips, et. al.?

are you using gba cody as a base?

Apparently so, which I didn't realize.  How does that affect things?

The size is different.

Also, never save as jpg. Ever.

It's a jpg just because that's what the image host would accept; I know how to output it as a proper gif for full usage later on.

Is there a better source for Cody's sprites then?  I worked with what I could find on Spriter's Resource, which doesn't seem to have non-GBA sprites available.

Better answer: Use a set of open source rips, such as from the mediafire link I am about to provide below. Think this is Kong's folder off the top of my head. Look for Cody's name in there, and you'll have a proper CPS2 set to work with.

I tried to get the sprites there, but every time I download them, it keeps saying that the file is in either an unknown format or it's damaged. I don't know if they work there for you or not, but I thought I should warn you.

Thanks for the warning.  They're in .pcx format, which my CS2 seems to be able to manage just fine.

Here's an update!  I have the better base sprites now thanks to Kong.  I've finished shading the belt and hair and have a couple layers on the pants.  Once I have the shading from the lighter parts of the pants done, I'll extrapolate out the remainder.

Not sure why I didn't move this thread sooner. You'll need more completed animations before you can really call it a project. While you're still in the preliminary phase of figuring out what they should look like it should be in Graphics.
