So, does your favorite character not have winquotes? Author didn't add them? Was the character made for WinMUGEN and doesn't have them? Well, here's how you add them!

For this tutorial, we'll be using KFM's CNS, or Constants, file. If you don't have KFM, then you disgust me. I kid. So, open up KFM's CNS file in Notepad or some other text editor. Hit ctrl+f and type in "[Quotes]", or scroll down until you see them. The section as a whole will look like this

Code:
;Default language victory quotes **MUGEN 1.0**
;The default language victory quotes must be implemented in English.
[Quotes]
; Up to 100 victory quotes can be specified per language (victory0 - victory99)
victory1 = "You must defeat Tu Shou to stand a chance."
victory2 = "You need a lot of training. Come back in ten years."
victory3 = "You look familiar. Did I see you on TV?"
victory4 = "Your moves are too predictable. You want to learn Kung Fu Palm? It's not for novices."
victory5 = "That was a good workout."
victory6 = "I want to challenge more skilled fighters."
victory7 = "What do you mean my girlfriend is in another temple?"

Note that anything commented with a semicolon MUGEN ignores, so we're going to take out all that unnecessary text for simplicity's sake.

Code:
[Quotes]
victory1 = "You must defeat Tu Shou to stand a chance."
victory2 = "You need a lot of training. Come back in ten years."
victory3 = "You look familiar. Did I see you on TV?"
victory4 = "Your moves are too predictable. You want to learn Kung Fu Palm? It's not for novices."
victory5 = "That was a good workout."
victory6 = "I want to challenge more skilled fighters."
victory7 = "What do you mean my girlfriend is in another temple?"

Okay, following me so far? Now copy all that and open up the winquote-less character's CNS file. We'll call this character Goldar. Once we're inside Goldar's CNS file, we'll want to find the same [Movement] section we saw while copying KFM's quotes. Start a new line and enter the code pasted above. You can have up to one hundred winquotes, as stated above in the first code snippet, for each language. Feel free to change KFM's quotes however you want, but for Goldar, it'll look like this

Code:
[Quotes]
victory1 = "Hahaha! Puny humans!"
victory2 = "Time to conquer Earth!"
victory3 = "Ahahaha!"
victory4 = "You think she's cute, too?"
victory5 = "I'll crush you like a bug!"
victory6 = "Who're you calling a baboon?!"
victory7 = "It's not cheating if I use a sword!"

You can make the characters say whatever you want when they win, the only limit is your creativity!

If you've followed the tutorial up to this point, you should save the CNS file (not Save As!) and load up MUGEN. Only 1.0 supports winquotes, so don't expect results if you're using WinMUGEN or DOSMUGEN. You can add a winquote "system" to individual characters in WinMUGEN, but that's far more complicated and we'll not be getting into that.

Now, if you want to add another language for winquotes, say Japanese, it's just a matter of copying the foreign language section under KFM, translating them into that language or having a foreign language set, and then changing MUGEN's default language to that language. The CNS file of KFM pretty much tells you how to do this, so I won't be covering it either.

I hope this has helped you, and if you have any questions, go ahead and post here or in the main Dev Help board, which is what it's there for! Good luck!

Actually, this is a Mugen 1.0 ONLY feature, since WinMugen doesnt recognize the Quote statedef in the cns.

Yes, but by adding shit to the character, you can have a similar feature in WinMUGEN. It's been done before, but I'll be damned if I know how to do it.

*Dies*

Winquote is a state controlled (sctrl). Statedef is a definition of a state. Are two completely diferent things.

I think you may forget the random selector for winquotes. To have more than 7 quotes I mean  :P

But for his purposes [Quotes] would somewhat be classed as a statedef. winquote is of course an sctrl and that's a different matter.

Stupidly, you can leave [quotes] in, winmugen just utterly ignores things it can't understand at all. Shitty shitty parser.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.
