I mean yeah, it's pretty trivial to come up with a fitting charge command for the move. The real question is whether it needs to be one.

he's gonna use the EXPLODsive buffering system, right? :D

I think charge based attacks suit Billy best, and it would seem so does JMM and Balthazar.  He feels like the "Guile" out of the rangers anyway.

If anyone were to be the shotoclone base character, it'd be Jason/Rocky and/or Tommy, specifically Green.

Tommy makes a lot more sense to be the Akuma to Jason's Ryu. Not really seeing the logic for him to be a charge character.

Yeah, Akuma/Gouki is a good match for Tommy(White).  If it's Tommy(Green), though, I see him more as a Ken, a playful rival type who trains alongside Jason.

Zach/Adam would be a grappler/half circle based character, or possibly like Robert Garcia.  Kim and Trini/Aisha, maybe like Chun-li or like King, since they're more acrobatic and kicking types.

Mmm, not quite.

The basic idea for the Rangers is as follows:
  • Jason/Red Ranger: your basic, all-around, balanced character, like Ryu
  • Kimberly/Pink Ranger: the standard fast, but weak female character archetype, specifically focused on being highly mobile thanks to her gymnastics skills
  • Billy/Blue Ranger: is the slowest, has most stamina, and is very much a defensive character (hence the charge moves)
  • Trini/Yellow Ranger: another all-around type character (might tend more towards having slightly more health and being slightly slower than Jason, though) whose gameplay revolves around landing precise strikes and zoning (it seems fitting for Trini, the only other original Ranger who had [non-dance related] martial arts skills, and it also fits her personality to have to be played more methodically and reserved)
  • Zack/Black Ranger: fast and slightly weak, but very flashy and combo heavy. Might take some cues from Duck King.
  • Tommy/Green Ranger: as mentioned previously, the Akuma to Jason's Ryu, so much more rushdown oriented, but has less health.

Of course, right now, we're just focusing on the Blue Ranger; we're specifically trying to avoid holding off any ideas or moves for potential future Rangers. So I don't want to get anyone's hopes up or anything; it just seems foolhardy at this point to be coming up with any in-depth plans for the other Rangers.

Hopefully, however, we'll get around to them!

No worries, just wanted to head off the speculation from derailing the thread too much, and also point out that as of right now, Billy is the only one who is definitely 100% going to be made!

Charge characters aren't required to be zoning/defensive characters.  Balrog is a charge character who specializes in rushdown.

I don't get the hate this guy's throwing at charge characters.  They're good for surprising opponents and catching them off guard.

"Oh, he's backing off?  I'll close in on him and- " *gets Sonic Boom'd in the face*
"Oh, he's turtling?  How about a nice OTG-" *gets somersaulted into the air*

Also, variety never hurts.  Too many quarter circle based characters as it is.

Billy like a charge character is a good point.
I agree with you Jmorphman.

In My opinion we have amazing charge characters  with amazing gameplay, like Guile, Balrog And others.
Billy ia inteligent And not good fighter like Jason ir Tommy. Make him a charge character os a good strategy and this allow more surprise attacks.

Hope Someday Balthazar make the others, especially Jason the red ranger.

its mugen, you can change the commands by yourself when it comes out.
you'll probably gonna wind up with a broken char (gameplay wise) but its better than bothering the guys who're making it.

Also Urien’s non-projectile moves are change and he’s the baddest man in the universe.

Would giving Billy more defensive options like counter stances or something break his gameplay? Since his bit was science maybe he could have options like strider, not that I know how that would work.
We're going for a fairly simple and kinda retro style of gameplay, so I'm not sure if different stances or options would be a good fit. We were talking about having an invention or two of Billy's pop up somewhere, but we never got around to nailing anything down, and now we've basically got the move set figured out. So I dunno, we've still some of time to think about it!
