Someone has to notice you and post in the respective thread in feedback. After that people will vote with +/- 1 and then a moderator will (arbitrarily) decide to change (or not to change) your usergroup when he checks the thread.

How is it ridiculous? You have to actually contribute something to the community to become a, you know, contributor.

You get contributor status for actually CONTRIBUTING something worthwhile. Jean and Ex Shadow have their stages. Jesuszilla, Cyanide and Cybaster (among plenty of other talents) have their awesome character releases. Releasing one thing and suddenly wanting that status doesn't work. You gotta earn it. Simple as that.

Now I understand why Djoulz approached me. Also, asking for contributor status is the best way to NOT get it. Same goes for moderator status. Some people get noticed at their first release, due to the quality of their work. Some people get noticed after they progress a lot, others because they've been here for a long time and released quantity of stuff, even though the quality is not always great (but still fine to get Contributor status). Some people make palettes, others tools, others stages or characters. I got contributor status at first just by giving a lot of feedback in the release section. There's numerous ways of getting it, but yeah, bottom line : you have to contribute and not be a douche.

Yay i'm a contributor! What does this mean?! Does it make me super awesome?!No. It gives me a star. Special. I believe it also bumps your inbox space up. But you barely ever need that.
It is, consdering the number of PMs some of us receive. It's horrible having to empty PM boxes at MI or CVG, even though I receive 10 times less PMs there than here.
Nope, it's just Iced and Balthazar spamming my PM box. At least we're making progress on our secret Hello Kitty character.
