Here's one concept of Ryu's Separation, along with the color map. Basically, his shoulders and part of his right forearm will be separated. I was thinking about saving the blue on his pants for his chest. I'll come up with a couple more concepts soon...

I agree, I really feel the shoulder and forearm seperation are unneeded especially for someone like Ryu.

Also, @SageHarpuiaJDJ , I think Ryu's forearm doesn't really needs that yellow thing(even it could look like SF1 LONG gloves), and also, a t-shirt is totally unneeded IMHO. Maybe those colours can go to his feet(not a total shoe but...), for something similar to SF1. Anyway, it's your choice.

Ah. I guess I can just do the feet, since well, it's Ryu. Thanks for the suggestions!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about his arms. Do his eyes have a different white than his teeth?

I totally forgot about his teeth. Good thing I still have that light blue up there for the white of his eyes on the last color of the map. Precautions, Precautions. Now, excuse me while I make another concept.

Less extensive concept. Decided not the separate the pants to keep the classic martial arts look. Also corrected his eyes, which can be easily corrected with the first one.

When separating the rest of the sprites, for the shoes, there should still be a patch of skin visible, the shoe shouldn't go all the way up to the pants. Not sure if it's possible to make it visible on this sprite. Plus, if it's supposed to be shoes (let's ignore the toes), the sole of the feet would also need to be separated.

Unless you just really want to do the shoes I wouldn't worry about them either. I'd go back and change the pants and leave the shoes off. I don't know how well the shoe separation will work in some sprites anyway. I'm pretty sure there are sprites where his big toe is distinctly separate from his other toes.

If you want to try it that's cool but I feel it'd be a lot more work.

Color separate the separation of the toes ! They'll take the same color as the shoe in the proper palettes, the shoes will just be very large. (I don't think there's any sprite where you see the foot from above or below and you actually see the background between the big toe and the rest)
You know, either that or forget it.

I did a very fast one so there are a lot of errors. But here's what I came up with for the shoes. It would be a lot of work. I only used 2 colors to overlay the feet with for shoes. You may need at least 1 more color. Basically at this point you are spriting. It will add a substantial amount of time to your project. But if you could pull it off it'd be awesome! I don't recommend it for your sanity though.

Also, don't worry about the pupil and the belt. The belt is pure black. There really isn't another color that could look good. You would have to add some details intoit to make another color look well. The pupil could work with light colors, but it's just not worth the extra moment of your time IMO

I had to change the palette slightly to make the separation easier. That's why the belt is that color. As for the eyes, I had to draw them in up close to look better. So basically the idea separation for Normal Ryu is pants, gloves, belt? I'm not going to worry about the feet, since I want to keep my sanity lol. I have an ideas to keep separations at a minimum, but I'm gonna post it elsewhere.

I'd add the white for the eyes since he doesn't have that. Gloves, hair, and pants. The belt isn't worth it because it's 1 solid color and only black will look good on it.

Okie dokie. So can I change the palette of his clothes then? Because the darkest shade of his clothes are almost identical to black, and gimp + almost = same when it comes to color selecting.

There's actually another sclera shade that appears on several sprites, and another teeth shade as well. :P

I'm also gonna repost this:
Because Ryu and Ken are headswaps, and because they share so many moves, it would save a ton of time if you used my Ken separation as a base for Ryu. This includes gloves, belt, and pants; though hair definitely would need to be redone for all shared sprites, and probably teeth and the eyes, though. I am however currently in the middle of revamping my Ken separation so don't go using the one that's on my site. If you want to start right away, I already have done everything that would be shared with Ryu save for their gethits, and the latter should be done sometime next week, hopefully.
Using my separation will help! And make it go faster! And as of today I've only got ~50 sprites left to fix!

In response to the sclera thing, JNP said that he'll take care of the eyes.

And I'll add the other shade, but is it light or dark? I'd look myself, but I really don't feel like it.

To speed up the process of color separation we can use the sprites that Ken and Ryu share. Remove Ken's head and overlay it over Ryu for mostly instant CS magic. We can also use POTS Ryu to do the same with 99% of all Ryu's head sprites for hair and eyes.

It's uh, not really a matter of headswaps? The separation is all by itself, all one has to do is adjust the palette so it matches the Ryu sprites/separation, and then just paste the separation over Ryu's sprites. Like you could use the magic wand tool in your image editor of choice, select the transparency color, invert the selection, and just paste that over Ryu.

Yeah, it's not difficult. If you still don't get what we're saying you can wait till I get a chance to work on it a bit and I'll show you with images what we're talking about.

It might be a while though. My priority is the coding because the sprites can wait. Once the coding is at a decent stage it'll be easier to begin the community aspect. CSing will be a lot simpler.

I'm not sure what you mean by along with the rest of the colors from the sff? If you mean colors for things like fireballs and such those will not be in the same palette with Ryu's colors.

You can just separate the sprites and make a whole new palette and that's the palette we'll use just for Ryu's sprites. The only other colors I guess you'd need to add are his electrocution colors?

Alright, ignore what I said.

I mean, the separated Ken sprites will help to separate the belt, the gi bottom and the gloves, right? But I saw it's planned to separate some other stuff like his hair since the original sprites share the hair colors with the skin, so it doesn't matter if I make a new palette now with those colors shared?

Okay @SageHarpuiaJDJ: Take a Ryu sprite

Take one of JMM's Ken sprites

Remove Ken's hair, eyes, skin, eyebrows

Copy that and paste it over Ryu

Just like that you are finished with the gi and gloves. POTS already CSed Ryu's eyes and hair so you can do the same for most of them too.

This should make doing most of Ryu's CS much easier because he and Ken share so many frames.

You could automate the Ken purging process so that only the clothing is left so you wouldn't have to manually remove him each time. If you are familiar with batch processes.
