Summary: Klonoa is a platformer game character that uses the power of a "a large magical ring" to grapple enemies and use them to his own advantage, whether that is using them to throw at other enemies or using them to get a second jump. The game is rich in style and Klonoa himself is a very open ended character for the "dream traveller" premise of MUGEN.


Complete: Stance, Movement, Crouch, Custom Hit Sparks, Basic Attacks, Low Attacks, Air Attacks, Projectile Attacks and Spinning Attacks.

Progress: Damage animations

Plans: 3 Button control set up, Custom made Hitsparks (Oh yes, I'm going there),  1 Special Type (Spin), 2 Projectile Types (Involving Moos :3), 3 Ground Supers (Spinning, Hammer and King of Sorrow), 1 Anti-Air Super (Attack of the Giant Moo!), 1 Ultimate (TBA)

As my Infantry post likely already proved, I'm definitely keeping an eye on this.

When he's out I'll make make an effort to be the first of the public to have a video up of him and even make him some custom palettes.

This is gonna be awesome.  Klonoa is my favorite non fighting series ever.

You don't get much more hardcore than Klonoa. ^^; He's not very well known and his games are for gameplay, no gimmicks.

Klonoa games are Old School Platforming with a Capital VERTIGO lol

I don't quite know why, but I always imagined him having a stance similar to guys like Strider and Megaman where they just sort of stand there and blink.

I like your idea better, but the axis seems kinda wonky.

Klonoa and co. appeared in Namco x Capcom and they all had a slew of attacks and specials. He could use those as reference.

Big design change.

Decided to make this character a 3-Button Fighter. Making it 6 buttons seems unnecessary after a few days of consideration and lot of thought.
More Buttons for a simple character are simply unnecessary.
At the same time, I have no need to crop out any moves, so it should all come together rather smoothly.

Anyway, here's 2 shots of movement in progress:

Name's Janga, bad ass evil guy of the "Heroes" game.  He's killed the dad on the gunner in the middle, poisoned the character Klonoa with those red claws and... well. I'm not sure why he's popular.

Well, I originally planned on having him jump from behind Klonoa, ON Klonoa. While Standing on top of him, he unloads on the enemy, laughs at Klonoa still on the ground and runs off. :sugoi:
Seems like something he'd do...

But that vehicle would be a bad ass addition... but how? And not the boring ass drive by I've seen Super Hero Characters do, that's old.

May of not been in the games, but hey.
Or he could drive in, backflip off, have it crash into the opponent, then shoot the fuel tank, causing an explosion?

Again, just tossing out some ideas. xP

That's the other great thing about Klonoa games, they have a kiddy appearance, but a premise that adults will understand.

I use KFM as a base for when I start a character and tweek it from there, not for proportion, but for coding. Check the portraits in that pic. ^^

So I'm comfortable with his height.

Considering his body proportions aren't equal to KFMs, his height is perfect. Man do u work well and fast, its obv that u have alot of sprite making exp on ur belt.

And  :2thumbsup: with the glow effect.

Freaking A, I've been working on this animation for 5 days now. What a pain... but, it's worth it for how much I'll be implementing it in the gameplay itself.

I had the NXC one but it has horrible. He had about four attacks, his AI was incredibly cheap and overall it was just horrid.

Dunno if I should attempt to make custom lighting effects or edit some existing... depends on my mood, but that's one ability I had planned to be close to the NxC one. &gt;_&gt;

Oh yeah, it does kind of resemble that... But no, I was going for the spin attack look from NxC, but look more unique, that's why he's spinning on one leg and using one hand to straighten the other arm. Looks more natural :3

Actually, I think after Klonoa... I'm done for devoting time to new MUGEN creations.

Although the process has been VERY educational, I've had some very... uhm... "odd run ins" with diff communities. If I did stop, I'd continue to update and maintain my existing characters (mostly because I still need to learn AI when I'm not spriting)... but I'll think about that more as this process continues.

Wow, I didn't even know that someone was working on a SvC-styled (graphics-wise) Klonoa! :o How coincidental, since I recently bought the Wii remake of Door to Phantomile. ;)

It's a shame that Namco X Capcom will never be brought here. Namco just had to assume that no one would play that with the amount of lesser-known chars in there...Then they put out Bravoman on VC. I smell shenanigans. Oh well.  :disappointed:

That said, Klonoa looks pretty good!  :2thumbsup:

You should probably leave Janga in. He's more well-known than KoS, I think.

I guess you're right. Tactical RPGs are more associated with Fire Emblem and Nippon Ichi games these days. Perhaps Capcom's next mega cross-over in the vein of NxC oughta be either a Marvel Ultimate Alliance-esque Tales-esque action-RPG, a more traditional RPG (like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and such)...or a fighting game. ;P

I'm impressed with how fast I've progressed with this project, it's been exactly a month ago I began this Klonoa. o_O

And yeah, I really hate that gaming divide between Japan, the states and Europe. Somehow, I feel that Klonoa 2 is being remade for Wii if the Phantomile remake sold successfully enough.
