Update: Okay, so I got some suggestions to fix a few things, and well it turned out to be a lot better. Rain was fixed so it doesn't splatter in the air, the moon resembles more closely to the game, cloud's speed was changed, and few other things as well. :sugoi: Hope you all like it, it's much darker as well.

Some of you may know me, most not. I decided to join here at Guild to let you all enjoy this stage that others have enjoyed as well. Also might be my last stage I make... copy & pasted'd from other forums.

That's right kids! A Devil May Cry level with... new sprites! Pretty much every sprite in this stage was made by me! I've been working my ass off to get this stage damn near perfect. The rain effects, moving clouds, glowing moon! So, I hope you love it ;D Leave comments please. :thumbsup:

best description: when jumping up, i expected to see the height between clouds shrink a bit, and have them grow when falling down, its an illusion of some clouds being close, others being far

If i'm catching your drift correctly... wouldn't that look odd? You're saying the sprites should shrink when a character jumps?

I think Snake means you should give each layer of clouds a different vertical delta so that the smaller clouds seem to be farther away than the others, depth perception.

Some more feedback:
- Add floortension
- I like the darker sky you posted better, the one you used is too bright
- Fog is too intense, makes the stage lose some details
- You can see some parts of the rain splattering (?) in midair o_O
- Top of the stage has less rain than the rest
- Rain sprites are too pixely, I can try helping you with that if you want

Oh, I see what he means on the clouds now.

- Yeah, I always forget the floortension. I'm making the dull brownish version of this stage, so i'll add it in then. Thanks for the reminder. :sugoi:
- The daker sky? You mean the in game pic from DMC3? The moon shine makes the stage brighter. If you want, you can take it out from the ".def" file. Something I scrapped was a transparent layer to make everything darker, but I noticed the lifebars also darkend.
- If and when I update this stage I'll remove it or lower the fog.
- *lol* A lot people pointed out the rain issue. Here's what I said at another forum about it...

You're right, I was setting those while on the phone so I got them mixed up.

Okay, prepare for an update on everything either tommorrow or Saturday... along with the release of the browinsh version (which will be plain, meaning no rain or moon). All that was mentioned will be corrected. :sugoi:

The whole thing seems too bright. I suggest replacing the moon with a darker one, getting new rain effects (the one you have splatters in mid-air like p.o.t.s. said), and removing the fog. Also, you should set the the floortension to around 80. I like the concept of this stage. Good luck with the update.

No, I'm not uploading Dante.

Anyways, here's the newer version so far.



It has a darker bg, lowered the fog, the rain is fixed (the splatter and heavier rain at the top). Also fixed the clowds. The floortension = 60. Anything else, because I want this perfect as possible :P Also, here is what it looked like when I used that "dark" effect...



Not very easy on the eyes so to say.

Just wanted to shout out that I liked the stage.
In fact its one of my favs.

I don't use Hi-res, so maybe not from me. If someone wants to make it Hi-res, then go ahead. Just as long is credit is due :sugoi: .Also, it's P.o.T.S' Shin Akuma with an Alpha stance is all.

I'm tired of your smart ass remarks. How about never critisizing my work ever again, because it just seems like bashing like you did on my last stage instead of helping like others have. Because really, you're the only person I know that hates my stages. Everyone loves this stage... but you.

Also, learn to type.

EDIT: I just gave the moon a bluish glow like in the pic from my first post. Everything looks a lot better. :sugoi:

Agree with prior rain comments.  You probably only truly need 3 rain layers with velocities.  Having that many, choppy rain animations is not good.

The clouds probably don't need to be transparent.

The moon edges are jagged.  I would redo the moon.

I guess slow down would not be the correct term.  Mugen starts utilizing frame skipping i.e. gameplay becomes jerky.

I use quite a bit of transparencies in my stages (and in hi-res) without frame skipping.

Don't know what to tell you, bro. I haven't gotten any complaints about the frame rate. Maybe i'll get rid of the fog completely, you think that might help you? You're a stage maker as well, maybe you can tune it to your liking if it's only on your computer? If I got more complaints i'd try to fix it, sorry.

Well, P.o.t.S hasn't really responded about the rain (maybe he just hasn't came online since then), but expect the update tonight. :sugoi: I think you all will like it a lot better.

Hey man I'm loving this stage. You're up there with Syn when comes to creating stages. The only thing that bothers me is that rain has some issues, but P.O.T.S already told you about them. Other than that don't change a thing. Thanks for sharing this gem.

Very true. I do understand some things that needed fixing like the rain, etc. but not the others as much. Looks like the word "perfect" was taken out of context...

I've been working my ass off to get this stage damn near perfect.

Wow, great job for taking things way out of proportion.

I do disagree with something you said, however.  Fixing all the minor things is what separates a great stage maker from a mediocre stage maker.  We've had so many half-ass stages lately, that seeing someone like Teros actually try to fix things is a welcome change of pace.

Anyhow, the overall update looks better.  The stage was too bright before and really didn't resemble the video screenshots.  (Still +/- about using the orochi platform, though.  Makes me think about KOF97 more than DMC3).

Now onto my usual rants...

Slight asymmetry is still present.  -Boundleft = Boundright

I didn't notice this earlier, but, the floor delta is wrong.  It's always 1,1 for a low-res stage.  No exceptions (except if using parallax).

For the pillars behind the platform, you should try separating them from the platform and have them as separate image files.  That way, you can use them with a slightly different deltas for better depth.

The platform border near the far end pillars looks a bit jagged.  I would manually edit that.

The moon border looks a bit jagged too, especially in the lower right part.  I would also manually edit that.

I would recommend using shadow instead of reflection.

I would decrease the brightness of the fog a little bit.

Still, though, using 22 animations just for the rain is plain overkill.  Even by the still screenshots alone, there's simply too much rain on-screen.  Less is more, and I would definitely use less.  You would really only need 3 or 4 tiled layers with differing downward velocities and one additional animation for the splash on the ground.  I would get different rain graphics (with differing widths/lengths) and change it altogether.

Look, i'm not going to update it again. I'm spending too much time on one stage. As SyN said, it looks great as it is.

What exactly do you mean by the asymmetry? Looks fine to me.

The pillars, they are actually part of the platform it self in DMC3, so it wouldn't look right. That's why it's one image.

Shadows = No no. It's raining, it needs reflections just like the game does.

As for the rain, I need it too look like it's hitting the platform all over. That's why more animation was added... plus more rain = more epic, that's my preference. Also, it was the best rain i've seen in Mugen.

As SyN said, and me also a bit earlier. Tune the things you want the way you want them. I'm not changing what's not necessary to change. Some things you pointed out can only be caught if you sit there and squint at it like the moon you mentioned. People are going to be fighting on it, not examining it.

No, I meant I added that as well as the cloud deltas. I just added .1 to the y axis. It's hard to explain why I did that.

This is a good stage.

Though I noticed most of the same visual aspects Ziltama did(mainly the pillars,moon and amount of rain) the stage is still solid. 

good work, hope to see more stages of yours in the future.

Quite a good stage now. No real flaws and quite appealing for the eyes.

Only the rain seems strange at times. If you look at the rain in the sky, at some places, you can see only 1 or 2 pixels blinking, which looks quite strange.

Other than that, good job. :)

Tried the other stages.

Some general recommendations: Keep mp3's as separate downloads.  You don't have to use fog in almost every stage.  Use floortension and decrease verticalfollow.  Watch out for asymmetry.

KI Cinder:  Parallax is a little off, but the zoffset line should be moved higher (i.e. decrease zoffset value).  It seems like the fighters should be higher up on the floor.  I don't remember the snes version of the stage all that well.
 
Eclipse Cannon:  Nice idea for a stage.  I would move the zoffset line a little bit higher and slow/tone down the fog.  The stage is asymmetrical (boundleft and boundright are not opposite of each other).

Dark Sector:  It would have been fine except for the fog.  I would have toned down the fog (and maybe choose a dark blue tint to the fog) so that the fog doesn't light up the stage.  You can see where the fog tiles (almost looks like a vertical line).  The stage is also more asymmetrical than Eclipse Cannon.

Mountain Range:  Sometimes, it's a good idea to add sprites...sometimes not, like this case.  It's a good thing you provided an alternative def file without the sprites.  Sprites don't tend to work out well especially if the art styles clash.  Again, the fog lights up the stage.  The zoffset line should be higher.  The top mountain outlines look sloppy and need editing.  Stage is also asymmetrical.

Caged Ice:  This one is my favorite.  Just needs some few tweaks.  The shadow needs to face the other direction.  The stage is again asymmetrical.  I would use 3 layers of snow at varying speeds with one layer behind the fighters.

The Shack:  This stage is very asymmetrical.  Zoffset line should be higher.  The floor just stinks.  You can easily see the mirror effect used to double the length of the floor and looks awful.

Temple Remix:  Too much fog.  Asymmetrical stage.  Top mountain outlines need editing.  The rain is actually decent here.  Again, I would use 3 different layers at varying speeds with one layer behind the fighters.

King K. Rool:  Asymmetrical, single layer, single image.  Not much to say here, except it looks like it went through a strange graphics filter.

So, I think Caged Ice deserves an update...

Funny that you brought up Caged Ice (as it too is my favorite original stage i've made), I was actually updating it before I came into this topic *lol*. I added a second snow layer with a different velocity, my new Christmas stage reminded me to do that. Also, the BG image has deltas now.

You make amazing stages, and i'm glad you commented on mine. I'm probably going to update the rest before I make a new stage (after my Christmas one) with all that you mentioned :sugoi:. I do use the fog too often, I just think it sets the atmosphere better. I'll tone it down some now that I see that it's a bit too bright on a couple of my stages.

Teros-Sensei, I LOVE your stages. Beautiful.
However, all of 'em that I've tried are off-centered, giving P1 an advantage. Now, I don't know the first thing about editing stage
sffs, but editing the camera startx and p1startx fixes the problem quickly and cleanly. First, take the difference between the
boundleft and boundright, and subtract it from p1startx. Then, take half of the number, and subtract it from the camera's startx.
If you'd like, I could PM you a Megaupload'd zip of the fixed files.
Other than the asymmetry, the only real problem I've seen is that The Shack's two pillars need moar Blackjack trick. However,
when I attempted to implement it, it failed. The pillars stayed transparent constantly. Dunno why; I'm not a coder.
