Again?  I never edited this character before.  If you mean - is all I did was change his sounds and colors, then yes.  As I specified, it's an edit of Pielle.

It's one of the greatest movies ever made you ignorant monkeys. It has swords, laughs, extra appendages, The Machine, MLT sandwiches, revenge, and one of the best swordfights in movie history.

Anyway, Terrible character. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning.

look at this ultranoob

this isn't very good, but there's potential. i don't think it'd be that hard to edit his sprites so he looks more like the actual movie character, which might be a good starting point

LOL so much hostility in this thread.
Here's the last thing I'll say about this:

There are different kinds of MUGEN releases.  Some are serious characters meant to be on main rosters.  Some are humorous characters (Omega Tom Hanks, Chuck Norris etc).  Comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges.   God Akuma version 5000 and Dread Pirate Roberts probably shouldn't be hanging out together.

THIS character is a humorous quick and dirty edit of an existing character made FOR Princess Bride fans.  If you never heard of Princess Bride, then this is not for you (but you should Netflix it ASAP).

If you already have Pielle on your roster, then this is not for you.  Yes, Pielle sucks.  He's an older character that is no longer available.  I didn't make him, so stop bitching about how he sucks.  I simply turned him into The Dread Pirate Roberts FOR FUN because it only took about 30 minutes to do, and the point of it is FOR FUN.  I could spend months re-doing his sprites, his stance etc. INSTEAD of ripping sprites from Martial Masters and Killing Blade -- but no thanks.  I'm not spending more time on this character - for my purposes he's fine the way he is.

I happen to enjoy having movie characters in my MUGEN, and so do other people.  So deal with it.

Cheers.

THIS character is a humorous quick and dirty edit of an existing character made FOR Princess Bride fans.

By using that thing you call "logic". I could simply palleteswap an existing Fei-long/WH Dragon and soundswap him to have Bruce Lee quotes and call him Bruce Lee.

Or Pallete/soundswap a Bob Wilson to make him into Bob Marley.

Or even better, pallete/soundswap KFM to make a character called Karate Dude.

...

Your edit required zero effort to do. Anyone can palleteswap and replace the sounds of a character.
THIS character is NOT a humorous quick and dirty edit of an existing character.
THIS character IS a piece of shit that had no significant editting done to it and is merely a poor attempt at pallete/soundswapping to call it a new character.

Who cares how much effort it took?  It amuses me and it amuses other people.  You're rude and hostile and seem to get all bent out of shape over trivial things, which is unfortunate for you.

If it upsets you so much, don't download my characters in the future.  But please stop whining to me about it, because maybe I will add sounds to Bob Wilson and call him Bob Marley.

while i'm no princess bride fan and did not download the character due to such, i think he is well within his rights to edit this character the way he did simply because that was something that entertained *him* to do for a character *he* wanted to have. sharing was secondary; it was more about him wanting to do what he wants to do and if that was something he enjoyed, then that is all that matters.

so great work count monte!

I know. And I only get bent out of shape on people that expect praise out of their sloppy work. If you actually had done more effort into the character like edit the moves or make balance fixes I wouldn't be saying it's such a crappy edit.

Please stop encouraging pallete/soundswaps. If someone's going to edit something and release it, I expect an actual edit like CK's edit of Sula, Solid Zone's Akuma_SZ and TPG's balance fix for Lyzer.

Darkflare, let's not get into a petty flame war over this.  The first thing you need to understand about me is that I don't release things for an ego boost or a pat on the back.  I'm not looking for praise.  The sole reason I make things is because there's a character I'd like to have and no one else has made it, or it seems like fun.

That's why I've been working on Martial Masters characters -- I think the game is a masterpiece and it seemed like no one was making the effort to rip the sprites for Drunken Master etc.  I really wanted these characters in MUGEN, so I took the plunge to do it.  Believe me, I would have MUCH preferred that they were already made by someone else and in MUGEN and easily available for download.

As for characters like Dread Pirate, I make them for myself.  I happen to like making YouTube videos that replicate movie scenes.  Once the character is made, why the hell not release it so others can enjoy it?  There is NO law that says that in order to do an edit you have to change a billion things on it before you're allowed to release it.  That's a perception that you and a few other folks on here seem to share.

I have my own law I follow -- treat other people the way you like to be treated.  I'm not going to be brow-beaten into not releasing sound/palette swap characters in the future by you or anyone else.  I'll release whatever I damn well please, and I don't want praise from you.  If my "shitty" releases make someone else happy, besides me, then it was worth releasing.

i'm not encouraging palette swaps. i'm encouraging someone to do something they enjoy doing for themselves. and i'm pretty sure he was not thinking of what you expect when doing something he enjoyed doing for himself.

Well you could have simply released the pallete and the alternate sound file, and before you say: "but teh character is not avaialble anymore" well that's what the request section is for.

Anyway if you release something then you better be prepared for criticism and know that not everyone is going to say "NICE CAR + 1", specially with such poorly made edit.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to edit some random character so it has "MvC" combos that are not MvC at all and release it over at IMT.

Darkflare,

I don't know how busy you are with school, work, your own projects etc.  BUT if you have some time, instead of arguing on here, I could use some HELP ripping sprites from Martial Masters and Killing Blade characters.  It's easy to criticize but whenever I ask for help doing something that is really worthwhile, suddenly it gets awfully quiet.

If you seriously want some releases that get you excited, I can show you an easy way to rip the sprites from these games and you can help.

And no need to cop a 'tude.  All it does it turn people off from releasing stuff.  I spend weeks or months making a Martial Masters character, and freely share it with everyone, then I spend 30 minutes making a joke/fun character and get nothing but hostility and vitriol... All it does it make me inclined to not share ANYTHING again....  IF I had a thin skin.  My point being, lots of people won't release cool stuff because they don't want grief from people like you  ;)  Then, everyone misses out.

So.... back to my offer -- you want to help convert the remaining Martial Masters characters or not?

You're forgetting the first rule of show biz: Know your audience

For the casual gamer, when they see MUGEN they aren't interested in Uber God Dead I've Got 6 Hypers characters -- it's the 'celebrity' novelty characters that get them excited.  Michael Jackson, Col. Sanders -- characters they've never seen in a fighting game before.  The originality, or the quality of the gameplay isn't really that important  - can Michael Jackson chain combos?  Doesn't matter!

I myself would never put Pielle on my roster either, but I dig having Dread Pirate Roberts -- cause as stated above:  He's Dread Motherfuckin' Pirate Roberts!

The Mona Lisa with a moustache is still the Mona Lisa.

Likewise, Pielle that sounds like Dread Pirate Roberts and has his color scheme is still Pielle.

You limit yourself so badly when you try to avoid variables. When you get over your fear of the "complexity" of variables, you will find yourself in a better place: A beautiful world where coding is actually fun.
