Loving the (SF4) matches where the guy with the underdog character puts on a show. Hopefully the finals won't be heavy on Ryu and Sagat.

I agree on that now.And that Balrog player earlier(Calc vs. Chang match) didn't exactly make the best moves(jumping in on a Zangief is a BAD BAD idea).
the best part was the pause in the Sagat vs. Bison/Balrog match. OFFLINE RAGEQUIT. Got boring after that.
Vans was waiting for a Sagat mirror match to comment. What a fun Gen player just now, now I just want to see a good Fei Long.
There was a terrible, TERRIBLE Blanka v Ken match earlier. "fullscreen wakeup ultra usually works i dunno why it didnt there."PotS said, July 18, 2009, 02:41:19 amThat's probably all the Japanese that care about the game. Funny too because I guess MVC2 was the only thing that the US did good that Japan didn't.Also, don't expect any interesting fights til tomorrow evening.
Damn I don't think I'll be around to see the BlazBlue stuff... Any chance I'll get to watch it again somewhere?
The main page says something about an IGN insider deal:QuoteEvo traditionally produces a DVD capturing the highlights of our annual festivities. Instead, this year we’re really excited to bring you a faster, better way to relive your favorite Evo moments: we’re teaming with IGN Insider to produce and host the post-tournament matches that we would normally ship to you on a DVD.Basically for you guys this mean higher quality Evo content at a quicker pace and cheaper price. Match footage will of course be direct-feed in HD with crowd audio and commentary, and will go online with clickable brackets and other fun stuff. You get all this not for our usual DVD price of $30 to $60, but for just 15 bucks (I’m doing my best Billy Mays here, does it show?), which is a 25% discount off IGN’s usual rate. Who loves ya? Finally, on top of all the EVO juice, you’re still an IGN Insider for a year, which means you get a bunch of other stuff for free all year. That’s not just “cheaper,” that’s just straight up cheap–no brainer for any big fighting game fan.Otherwise, I doubt it. You'll probably see highlight matches on people's Youtubes within the month though, I'm guessing.
TempesT said, July 18, 2009, 06:13:58 amFunny too because I guess MVC2 was the only thing that the US did good that Japan didn't.I'll roflmao if a Japanese player shows up with one of their oddball Capcom characters team and just beats everyone because they only have experience against Magstorminel. Too bad MvC2 isn't really about matchups.
Are you talking about the 5v5 Exhibition? Daigo wasn't in that. I'm so pissed that Marn's Viper (the CLOCK RUNNING bullshit one) actually found out that his fatass needed to actually fight to beat people. Saber's Sakura had some crazy mixups and there was a nice Gen from Jibbo as well, cool to see console characters getting used in a tournament setting. Seth fights were fun to watch, even when he didn't win, and seeing Justin Wong taunt on a dizzy was funny as hell. He's such a dick, didn't know he was a chubs either. Dagger G(ranola) played a crazy Guile and had an awesome lockdown moment on Puerto Rican Balrog. So many awesome moments; Cammy dive kick show off fail, hilarious commentating, some crazy black dude wearing a Power Glove at the end.I watched the whole 5 hour exhibition and am probably gonna catch the SF4 finals tomorrow night, should be awesome.
TempesT said, July 19, 2009, 11:30:38 amAre you talking about the 5v5 Exhibition? Daigo wasn't in that. 5v5 for Sabre's Sakura, semi-finals for the others.Quoteseeing Justin Wong taunt on a dizzy was funny as hellOnly made better when it turned out a perfect, hah.
The stupid biased black guy at the end sounded like he was having sex with the people he was rooting for;"cmon joe, cmon joe, aw yeah you do it like dat LOOK AT DA DAMAGE LOOK AT DA DAMAGE AND LOOK AT DA DAMAGE"Ugh I wanted to shoot his eyeballs.
Triforce was annoying. It was funny to see the chat comments come through hating on him. Justin Wong is the only guy in SFIV left that's playing new characters... (btw Triforce is part of the East Coast team, so that's why he was biased)Sirlin playing Fei Long was interesting to me. Other than that, Remix is pretty boring.I'm gonna catch SFIII and then pretty much everything after 2PST. That falls on lunch on my timezone. :/QuoteOnly made better when it turned out a perfect, hah. There's no rewind button, so was it the full taunt because it can be canceled halfway through?
I realize he was from the East Coast, I was watching it with my boyfriend and he would point out stuff like that, I dunno why they let the retard on the mic in the first place though. Messatsu said, July 19, 2009, 11:38:44 amJustin Wong is the only guy in SFIV left that's playing new characters... ? Justin has been playing Rufus in SF4 for as long as I can rememberAnything other than 5 hours of SF4 would've been too much for my capacity x_x
Rufus / Abel are new to SF4, the rest of the guys left in the brackets are all playing characters from before SF4.
Eh.. oh..My posts are concerning the 5v5 regional exhibition. I didn't manage to catch the semis. I figured it was too late to talk about OLD NEWS MESSATSU WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU
I didn't watch them either (took a nap, but ended up being full on sleep), but the brackets are still online. I'm kinda surprised at how Mike Ross's Honda never tried to do his Ultra as an anti-air and I don't really remember him using it to burn through fireballs.
Messatsu said, July 19, 2009, 11:48:07 amI didn't watch them either:<Messatsu said, July 19, 2009, 11:48:07 amI'm kinda surprised at how Mike Ross's Honda never tried to do his Ultra as an anti-air and I don't really remember him using it to burn through fireballs.Too many slow fireballs makes it easy to see an ultra and just block it, I guess. Plus Honda is gross.
Messatsu said, July 19, 2009, 11:43:24 amRufus / Abel are new to SF4, the rest of the guys left in the brackets are all playing characters from before SF4.On the bright side there's only one potential Sagat IINM. Lots of Akumas though, but that's more fun to watch when not too turtled up.Edit: btw I didn't see a Ken even in the less serious matches. Also no Claw, Fei Long, Dan or Abel.
PotS said, July 19, 2009, 11:52:51 amEdit: btw I didn't see a Ken even in the less serious matches. Also no Claw, Fei Long, Dan or Abel.Abel got picked at least by Wong. Cant' really recall anyone else doing it. Ken has less options than Ryu (Ultra isn't ranged), even hitting with Tatsu might not be safe (Ryu's at least knocks down), Ken has less useful normals.
Yeah anything Ken can do Ryu can do better (Ryu can do anything better than Ken, yes he can), except that kara throw. I think Ed Ma used to use Ken until Akuma's shenanigans turned more appealing, then more people followed. One Sagat in top 8, hm... don't know if it'll have any effect on the tiers or if American players are just bored as hell of him slash have him all figured out (so hard!).
The MvC2 finals are up next for all you mahvel babies. They just showed a Majestros combo video with some lovely editing.
WTF is with Pringles and MVC2? ???Everybody in the chat pretty much calls every black guy an annoying nigger... only triforce has that rightfully.
^4chan in the house!...Man never has a game been so mirror-matchy (in before 3rd Strike), they should allow same character usage in a team so teams get more variety. It's still crazy though, worth watching.
Messatsu said, July 20, 2009, 12:38:19 amWTF is with Pringles and MVC2? ???http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZZUMjoxfZA
Looks like the Blazblue exhibitional was cut from the stream or something, it's straight to HD Remix. Which... I can't stand to watch anymore , no offense to the game or anything but 15 years later it's as exciting as watching someone eat.Edit: Wait, just moved to after HD Remix.
They are way behind schedule hopefully Blazblue finishes quick so I can get some SF4 in my system* TempesT really just wants to see Daigo kick Justin Wong's ass.
ED MA!!!! good match, SF4 Top 8 matches are GREAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!1Daigo vs Justin was Heart Wrenching!!!
I was SHOCKED when Justin picked Boxer, AND HE DID FUCKING AWESOME WITH HIM. I still hate him as a person though and I'm glad he lost
that was unnecessarily awesome match everytime daigo went for the win justin comes back i was baffled by what character he chose also i never knew he knew how to use that character. i have to say this was way better than the earlier evo tournament.
Yeah, gotta hand it to him for using three characters against Daigo, or maybe that was just desperation.
One of the commentators said that at the Gamestop tourney, Justin said he should've picked Balrog against him and he didn't even whip out Michelin Man against him this time around haha
WE GOT PUSSYand in closing, I am sooooooo frickin glad that they chose to stream this year's EVO, I hope they do the same next year, this was the best treat any fighting game fan could ask for.
What happened in 3rd Strike this year btw? There's like ten different characters in the top 8 (16 if you will). Can't make ChunChunChunYunYunChun jokes like this. Edit: Maybe being 2v2 just let each player chill out more. On the other hand winner duo was Chun-Li and Yun...
Cloudius said, July 20, 2009, 07:58:01 amI just wish Ed Ma didnt pick Zangief :/That was seriously a WTF moment. Counter picking against JUSTIN WONG shows that he needs to work on his tournament composure.
Anyone else get annoyed that S-Kill says "Roo" for Ryu then turns around and says Shoryuken normally?
I hate the "Roo" thing too! For gods sake! I mean it says Ryu in the game, it's ridiculous when you have a commentator sayin "Roo". It makes the whole set up of the torny cheaper if you can't pronounce the main characters name properly!!Also Justin is always gonna be remembered as Diago's Bit*h lol, which is really harsh coz the guys probably the second best SF4 player in the world but no one cares. Diago is the king, especially considering how he had to go up against a very annoying looking boxer, plus a very one sided crowd and a fairly one sided commentry

I don't know what happened in the middle, but it was kinda disappointing for the announcers to hype up all the Japan players in MVC2, then none of them showed up in the quarter finals.
QuoteActually he's a really nice guy. I don't know where this "Jwong is a dick" thing has emerged from in the past 6 months but it's obviously not true to anyone who's met him....?He taunts after a dizzy, he gets up out of his chair when he wins. He WALKS AWAY after winning a round. Clearly the dude needs to learn some etiquette AND needs to stop believing his own hype, he still can't beat Daigo after all these years. I could really care less how nice he is outside of games, because honestly he doesn't matter nearly as much then And DVDs aren't coming this year, a deal with IGN insider, why do you think the entire thing was STREAMED? :|Messatsu said, July 20, 2009, 06:54:07 pmI don't know what happened in the middle, but it was kinda disappointing for the announcers to hype up all the Japan players in MVC2, then none of them showed up in the quarter finals.Hahaha yeah really, I don't think US can be touched in Marvel anymore.Ken34 said, July 20, 2009, 06:50:47 pmJesuszilla said, July 20, 2009, 06:48:45 pmGah where's the Blazblue stuff?some noel player that lived in japan just wrecked everyone....Yeah the Blazblue matches were just retarded, I don't really see the hype around that game yet, too much lame as hell "DEAD IN TWO COMBOS" stuff and the dialogue after EVERY DAMN MOVE, what are they telling each other about their day or something? High level play really ruins games like these and makes them boring to watch (See also Marvel Vs Capcom (2), any other heavy combo based game). It was really just fanservice I think, including Blazblue, maybe next year it will be better, but it still will be the same DITC retardation.

I was there in person and the event was quite fun. Though I hope for my own sanity that the Renzo of these boards was not the Renzo of pool 23 as that dude was a complete *insert negative expletive here* He of course had the normal ego of stating all his matches would be 2-0s and the like, but the main thing was that he pulled a total bitch move and tried to get someone disqualified for a home button error they didn't do, and while every other person who had the same thing occur just agreed to keep playing their matches he tried to get $eejay Showstopper disqualified when it was actually the fault of some punk kid's controller in their bag. The pause wasn't even during a match, there were still 99 seconds left on the clock, and the 'fight' was just disappeared from the screenIn case you're all thinking I'm just butt-hurt over losing to him, I never lost to him, that's just not the case as I ended up beating the dude in winners semi finals for the pool (as shown here http://evo2k.com/live/brackets/sf4/pool_23/ ), but trying to get someone disqualified (especially an acquaintance of mine) for something that doesn't effect game play and wasn't their fault is both skeezy and grimey.Anyways the rest of the comp was awesome, I hope you all got to see the Semis for SFIV as soime of those were just as amazing as many of the finals, I now fully <3 Arturo Sanchez and think he deserves cake for kicking arse with Seth, and beating Daigo in a Ft5 money match with his dhalsim.
QuoteThough I hope for my own sanity that the Renzo of these boards was not the Renzo of pool 23Nope.
I wanted to see a good Seth fight, I only saw one and it was boring because he played like he was using Dhalsim. Is their a better one?
