Favorite KoF Char???

I choose my own path, regardless what destiny says

Hello everyone. I'm just an ordinairy member who doesn't posts work, but likes news and info about mugen. just wondering, which is your fav. kof edit for Mugen. That includes Orochis, Gods, evil, anothers. Whatever, all this except those slightly different cause of added moves. Mine would have to be Robo-Rock. The very first one with Motw sprites. He kicks ass, original game play thanks to his burst and has a different when press is start while selecting.

Terry Yagami.

To be honest, all kof edits i've played suck hard (nice sprites, horrible gameplay) except for Rikard's awesome characters.

I prefer real KoF characters.

Some of Juke's stuff doesn't seem bad to be honest. And then there's Iron's/Walt's Mr. Karate.

But yeah, most KOF edits suck horribly in the gameplay department, which is always a downer.

Does Rugal by Jin count, as in super sprite edits ? Same goes for Ryo by IronMugen.

Otherwise, Rikard's stuff and Lucy Fernandez by Fervicante & On.Off.

I have a weird fascination for rare characters. I LOVE Diana, Kula's mom/boss/mentor/what?
I think she has to be one of the coolest female characters.

Also, KOFEX2 Reiji Oogami. Way to MANLIFY the Yata Mirror powers

As for regular characters, I'm a fan of the Kyo-Iori rivalry, so I kinda like both. Specially Kyo 2K3 is badass.

It's more like the whole "selling point" (well, you get the idea) of Lucy is her ass and boobs.

On off is a professional animator.
His stint in mugen was due to Inferis ( I think it was him) being a friendly guy and befriending him in RL , I still remember some older people from mugen at the time trying to get into confusion over that since "Inferis doesnt deserve those sprites, we do!", that might even have caused on off to ignore mugen more afterwards.

New to mugen? Try out the starter pack, tools and a selection of characters from all around Mugen

My favourite edits are CCI Ryo and Mika by Rikard (sans voice). I've never downloaded it, but I've seen shots of a Kyokugen Goenitz.

Goddess Athena is supposedly a different character entirely anyway isn't she?

And I have no problem with Mai. I know a lot of folks wouldn't have given KOF a look if not for her as a character. Her moveset's nice too, and she does seem a decent counter to Chun-Li.

As for Lucy, directing this to Titiln but it is difficult to fix gameplay when it's what the sprite artist wanted. It's like saying "fix Ravenous" just because it looks good now, no? Besides, it's just people venting. I don't think anyone here is going to fault Fervicante for the work he did bringing those sprites to life or On.off for the spritework, just griping that On.off's gameplay desire was a bit off key.

I could say the same for people complaining about KOF XII not having K', Mai and other popular characters. The developers chose to put more diverse fighting styles rather than just put another projectile user.

Real Bout Sprites + "KOFish" Gameplay = Yuck, then throw in the crapload of moves he gave him, blah. He did a Nightmare Geese too using the RB sprites and gave him craptastic KOF gameplay. Ugh. Reminds me of 119way's MOTW characters he "tried" to convert into the KOF style, and failed miserably. Only KOD has shown to be able to do something good with MOTW sprites with KOF mechanics. Yet to see how ROTD, Matrimelee and Last Blade characters are gonna fare though... hmmm...

Anyways, far as edits go, I gotta side with Iron's Ryo. I suppose you can technically count Vans Terry too, he has a Rising Tackle, something 03/XI Terry never had, along with Rising Force.

Just doesn't look right to me. Especially considering both characters are already in KOF and have sprites available. I actually think Billy's RB sprite is kinda yuck, he has no pupils. KOF Billy looks way better. On the other hand, I like RB Yamazaki, and 03 Yamazaki too, but 03 was crap.

I think Crosscat made a Bob Wilson with KOF-ish gameplay, but I never really dwiddled around with it much. There really aren't any good Bob's in Mugen, O Ilusionista's Bob and EX Bob were just... so bad. Especially EX Bob, had like super armor or something in several attacks. Only thing amusing about him was the reggae music that played during his supers.

Just throwing stuff while there's still time, OnOff was indeed professional, and he left because he started to make some "real" games. The guy even showed up in some TV reportage once, where he was credited as a teacher.

About Lucy being unbalanced, we started some projects together, and yeah, the only thing I remember when we talked about it is he saying he wanted to add even more stuff into her

, but now I got some of his points: Without her cheap comboabilty and that broken overhead near C, she's almost unusable, character really lacks in-depth strategy and fitting velocities.

As for this topic, tie between Ash, Elisabeth, Duolon and Vice.

My Robo-rock statement was on topc since robo-rock's attacks where based on a couple of kof characters. And even though he never appeared in Kof as a playable character, he was in the background of a stage i believe, but anyways this topic can contain Motw since it is in relation to Kof

My favourite KOF character is Ryu. Hell, Ryu was in CVS, which had KOF chars in the cast, so Ryu is in relation with KOF. And Ryo from KOF has moves stolen from Ryu.

Both of you havent played KoF MAXIMUM IMPACT than - rock is a playable kof char .
my favourite KoF char is obviously Iori Yagami. I do not download edits usually ...but F-Iori is great and quiet original. Anyways i wouldnt mind trying out any Yagami edit out there.

I wouldn't consider that a infinite since you have to make your opponent bounce of the wall and if you do it on the wrong side of the stage the stage interaction would activate.

i've played daraku tenshi and I'm a huge fan of it (Haiji is my favourite), and cool is definitely not better than K'

also, K' design prototypes even before another k' :

Yeah, I was searching for custom sprites based off of it months ago (that sheet is from the PSX kof '99 gallery) but couldn't find anything, I even thought of doing a full set of it but figured it would be too high for my spriting skill level

Hoho, I didn't remember this thread. Skimmed through it, and even if Iron coded it, and his stuff is great most of the time, I'm glad this could be brought to you guys and most of all that you liked it

Let the record state that the gi shirt-less edits were originally made by Ironmugen and Loona, and later on mildly fixed and color added/sepparated by me (manually, like real men do it, with MS Paint and skill).

Iron's Ryo is a no-brainer (I remember watching the counter on his website closely and impatiently waiting for him to be released), and I also liked what Ahuron did with mimicking Kyo's MI outfit. Always been a fan of Rikard's stuff too.

I don't mind shithole gameplay if the sprites are really that good. I would be bothered to make my own version if that were the case.

Regarding Ahuron's Mr Karate Ryo - It was a pretty novel concept to do mild modifications to the existing set (I mean, if SNK did it themselves in NGBC, why not do it too?) in order to get a relatively fresh character, I just felt that the execution was somewhat mediocre, it just didn't feel like Ryo, it just felt like a CHUBBIER version of himself, and hair was inconsistent in everal frames. Well, at least he made an effort! ^.^

Regarding THE REAL NGBC Mr Karate set, it's just a bad swap a mild edit by SNK themselves. They just changed the head for all frames, using everything they had, including Takuma / SVC Mr Karate / 2K2 Ryo ... even if SVC Mr Karate had that freaking Kushnood Butt SHORYUKEN COPYPASTA. So, good concept, bad execution IMO, sprite wise.

Now being realistic, regarding CCI Ryo with the edited sprites, there were sacrifices that needed to be made especially in the detail department, some cost benefit stuff. Even if he lacks serious detail on the torso, at least he looked more dynamic and lean, instead of the chubby old SNK version of Mr Karate, so I guess you could say we're satisfied

Jin's Ryo-Mr. Karate is pretty average. His basic velocities for a start feel like ass. The creativity in some of his stuff makes it worth keeping even if the character itself feels pretty bad, but this particular Ryo is just not that good. Iron's is still better.

Nah, Iron edited the upper body to remove the gi and leave the black sleeveless t-shirt, I just got the ball rolling to edit the essential sprites with color placeholders for t-shirt sleeves and beard - couldn't find the original thread about it, but found this one:

GoH-UN actually isn't KoF at all. His sprites were edited off of CvS Akuma, has a 6 button layout and kinda plays like Street Fighter.
Gorimaru Jr. is probably the one you're thinking about.
