Ever attempted to do something great, but ended up dying at the last stretch in a game?

I just died on RE3's merc mode, playing as Nicholai, in the last room.

Back in the days where I used to play resident evil 2 over and over again, there was a way to get a S rank if you didn't save much. I got near the end and died without saving. That pissed me off though I started it again and got that S rank countless of times.

- Finally getting past the Mech Dragon in MM2, then screwing up on the turret boss in Skull Castle stage 4.
- Falling off the bridge in DK Mountain in Mario Kart Double Dash....which wouldn't be bad, if it wasn't for the fact that it was one of the last races of the All Cup Tour on Mirror, and I had to win to be able to win the cup.
- Get to Gruntilda in Banjo-Kazooie, to be destroyed....many many times.
- Getting hit near the end of All-Star mode in SSBM, when I was trying to get No-Damage Clear.

Freakin MM2 dragon.

I died on the final boss of Tales of Eternia on my first time. The thing is that you need to do a button combination when she does her final attack. Failure to do so means game over.

The fights themselves are rather long as well altogether.

I wouldn't consider that a infinite since you have to make your opponent bounce of the wall and if you do it on the wrong side of the stage the stage interaction would activate.

pokemon red, i barely beat lance with only my charizard remaining with like 20 hps, then boom gary shows up..

I remember that situation.

I fought and beat him with three pokemon left. All with less than half health, AND only small healing items.

I had to use all of the healing items on my best pokemon, lost two of them (my best one tried his best and beat a bunch, the other... super effective) and beat him with my worst pokemon.

You see, I liked using ghosts and anything not near the water/fire/grass triangle (except my first pokemon, Squirtle) in my Blue version. Ghosts and those Super-birds.

My fail moment...

ranks shouldn't mean anything though. in CoD4, a moment of victory for me, was having someone talk smack about how we are going to lose cause all of them were 10th prestige...

...took out my silenced P90 and all hope for them was LOST

moment of failure aswell: was teabagging behind an enemy in CoD4 before i was going to stab him, little did i know he had a team mate behind me just standing there, and HE stabbed ME....

In GTA:VC, where you use the dodo to spread posters. I spent 5 hours just to finish it

In GTA:SA, the mission DOBERMAN, I always crash at Mount CHiliad, and in the last part, always getting sweet killed when i'm chasing the firetruck

MKSM, it took me 5 hours to defeat the final 3

MKM:SZ, Shinnok's a pain in the ass, took me a while to kill him

SFA3 I think, that fight against GUile, took me 3 hours to beat him *hard mode*

oh tobi stop playing with robots and penises.

ok i remember a game from the sega master system,

(not confusing it with mission impossible no.._) this was called impossible mission. it was a kinda puzzle platform game, and mayb i was just shit at it, but it was really hard and confusing, i didnt see the point to the game...

my former friend who is prob one of the best retro old school gamers i knew was one of them people who bought tons of games, 30+ (not at once lol) for his console, and completed every one of them on all difficulties.(seriously)
ok big deal... most of you probably have, but then not everyone has... as you can tell by this thread. ive seen him complete almost every game he has ever had, for every console he has ever had...

now when i say almost.......i mean EXCEPT impossible mission lol.. he tried for hours and hours on end, but still couldnt complete it.

go on try, download the sega fusion emulator(supports megadrive(genesis) gamegear ect) and download the impossible mission sega mastersystem rom... if you complete it with ease your just saying that to be smart lol.

but yea i thought id go into detail about it because i was puzzled how my "former" friend couldnt complete it when i thought he was great at games. even i couldnt.

this was a guy who played columns on gamegear for 72hours... without sleep and pausing it only for dinner and WC breaks.. trust me i stayed there the week lol.

Contra Hard Corps: Just starting level 1, I take two steps and get killed by a charging kill-a-bot. >.<

Perfect Dark: On my last few bars of health. I try to sneak past this group of guards, only to walk right into a guard, who then proceeds to aim, fire, and kill me. >.<

Scarface: The World is Yours: I'm caught in an epic gun battle when a helicopter shows up. I was holding a rocket launcher at the time, so I thought I'd play the hero and fire at it and kill it. I fired, missed, then got my head blown off. >.< (And to add insult to injury, I hadn't saved the game for a whole two hours of doing stuff to get where I was.)

Killzone: I was at the last parts of a certain level, I forgot I was playing campaign mode instead of free play mode. So, Being the idiot I was at the time, I decide to be an hero and hold a grenade in my hand until it detonated, Killing me and the two enemy troops that where there. >.<

GTAIV: I was chasing some guy down with a bike and got to a part where I had to turn. I didn't turn sharp enough and smacked into the wall and killed myself. >.<

Mortal Kombat Chronicles: Sub-Zero: The first level, I simply ran through the first part, thinking it was safe, and then right into a trap that squashed me flat. >.<

Doom 64: The Cyberdemon, 'Nuff said. >.<

And finally (Because I think I'm making this post too long)...

I was playing Tales of Destiny yesterday, going through the tower of Druaga (even messing up on the 59th floor and losing about 20 floors), and when I finally got to Druaga... well, I have a burnt copy of this game. There are occasional glitches, which is odd considering all the other burnt games I played really just have loading problems. One was that sometimes, when I enter into the battle, when the screen goes black with the battle music, seconds later, the stage music comes back, and I don't fight. I get no experience or anything. Good bye Faerie Ring.

So I go up to the final floor, and I cannot put down any of the 3 rods I needed to finish the tower. So I basically had to use some Winged Boots and exit.

Sigh...

  • much love to r. kelly
-Mega Man X6: I plowed through the second part of Gate's stage using Shadow Armor X...then I got to the dreaded giant pit which is near impossible to cross without the proper armor/powerups which I sadly wasn't using.

-Pokemon R/B/Y: When I first played this game, I used only one Pokemon throughout the entire game, and that was my starter. It didn't pay off when I reached the Elite 4, and ended up dying to Bruno(or Gary, I don't remember too well).

-Breath of Fire 2: This one I may not remember exactly, but the first time I fought the final boss, not all of my characters were fused...and the final boss ended up killing me when I almost beat the bastard. That, and the final dungeon preceding him is ridiculously long.

-Arc the Lad 1/2: Going through all 50 floors of the Forbidden Ruins and getting all the awesome treasure, Choko(in the first game), etc...only to fall on your last leg by the time you're going back up, and dying at least in the middle of going back up, or even near the entrance. And this is a huge dungeon.

-Persona 3: Not paying attention to some characters(ex: Yukari), and not leveling them up. When they were required as party members at certain parts of the story, they were pretty much screwed due to being unused and dramatically underleveled, thus the bosses killed them in an instant, and in turn, the rest of my party was dead.

In general, I tended to be underleveled for some bosses the first time around, and I was sometimes lacking in good Persona. It took me a while of grinding to fix that, and considering the sick/tired status thing, I was lucky that I kept most of my save files approximately 3 or so days before the full moon.

So it's actually possible to clear the gap with the shadow armor?

I remember doing that and felt like a smartass, but when Wiegraf knocked me down the counter ran out in two turns. Ramza body transformed into trasure = Game Over.

I think it was, but it's been a damn long time since I played the game. You would probably need something like the Speedster/Jumper parts.

There's one reason I hated X6: horrible level design.

Seconded.

Finally got to Boss Order Sol in arcade mode of GGXXAC with Slayer, missed frc on a whiffed DoT.  He proceeded to Dragon Install Sekkai me.

NGBC: first time through, got to goodman with Iori and K'.  With only K' left, saw that Goodman's fire had.. flown off stage.  Never having played him before, I thought I was safe to rushdown.  Anyone who has faced him knows how this ended

Half Life: Didn't go into the portal at the end of the game.

You're good with Slayer too. Awesome!

But... NEVER let Boss Order Sol even get a sniff of that move. He almost always times it at the worst time in harder difficulties. So, yes, that was a failure. Forced Roman Cancels are a good friend to many characters in the Guilty Gear series (besides people with near no recovery time, like Dizzy currently or back then... whichever.)

NGBC: Yep. Same thing happened with my Mai/Kim team. Rushed at him when the fire was missing, only had Kim.

Half Life: You learned your lesson now, did you?

Woo-hoo!

I just recently discovered...stuff...for my PC....and now I can play all the old games from the Genesis, Snes, & NES days. :D

And guess what, I've got new failures!

Sega Genesis:

Fatal Fury: Picked Terry, Went into Howard Stadium, First fight is Tung Fu Rue...I don't even know my controls yet. >.< Figured them out pretty quickly though. :D Then I figured out how to do the Geyser move...at the cost of a round. Then the second round came, And I decided to spam Geyser attacks...Tung gets to half past dead, goes Hulk mode, spin rapes my ass into defeat. >.<

Contra Hard Corps: Picked Browny (Because him and Fang are the only two cool characters there) and started my road down memory lane. I charged ahead, guns blazing and body parts a-flying everywhere. Got to the catapiller thing and got stepped on. >.< First life lost. Second life kicks in, I run around shooting like a noob and get stepped on again. Catapiller goes off screen. Third and final life kicks in, I move on ahead passed "Rising Ground Walk" and into the spinning flame spider, I kill it no problem, But then I forgot that it will then go crashing into the building....located behind me at the time. >.< So I don't jump, getted kill, and get a game over...just before getting to my favorite guy in the whole game...The Cyclops.

Chakan - The Forever Man: Going through the air level, Attempted to jump to the very first platform...came a few inches too short. >.<

Family Feud: ...You know what, Let's just move on.

NES:

Metal Gear: ...I don't feel like sharing this one...Let's just leave it as I still can't get to that damn truck...even after all these years. >.<

Contra: Bullet, Bullet, Pit, Game Over, The End. >.< And that's level 1.

Street Fighter 2010: As a result of not remembering my control, I get pwned by all the minor league bullet-dudes until the guy I'm supposed to fight comes in to finish me off. >.<

Castlevania III Dracula's Curse: One word...Frogs. >.<

SNES:

Wild Guns: ...You know what, No comment. *is embarrassed at dying at the very, very beginning*

The Lawnmower Man: ...Virtual Flying Through Levels...'Nuff Said.

...And that's all.

...oh wait, I got one Mugen related.

Sol Badguy vs Master Geese...and I'm Sol. >.<

And to clarify why I seem to suck so bad, I'm used to playing those games with their repective controllers. But seeing as how I don't have a way to plug those into my PC...well, Use your imagination. :D

GG: Yea I try to as much as I can.. but considering I play a defensive slayer with emphasis on counters and exploiting openings, I always give him that 2 seconds of control, at which point the screen goes black and I realize I have no hope as his health returns to full.

NGBC: I honestly do think though that they got seriously lazy with Goodman.  I mean.. a boss that can't crouch SNK does alot  (see Orochi and Igniz), but.... he cant even jump?... They could've done so much more with him

HL: No, I'll do it every time.  It's a much more definitive ending :D

Addition to my list: Samurai Shodown 3 Arcade: Wasted $15 playing as Basara vs Zankuro.  Arcade stick was loose as hell.  <Insert other excuses>  Never beat him

Get a PS2 -> USB converter.  They work very well, sell for less than $6 on ebay.  Supports 2 controllers.
Its the only reason I can actually play Gouki + GGXXSlayer without failing miserably.

I use the X-box 360 controllers. It's my thing.

Now... WHY DID YOU DO THAT WITH YOUR MONEY!

Samurai Showdown 3 Zankuro is a EMULATOR ONLY type of boss. I'm serious. I have two other fighting gamers in my family, and I am the ONLY one who's beaten him (and that unusually hard game). And I've beaten him 5 times (4 without an emulator).

I used the following:

Slash Basara (some advice for the future)... barely won on my last few dollars. Lost a bunch... got desperate...
Slash Hanzo... third time I fought him, I won. I got use to him...
Bust Galford... fifth time I fought him, I won. LUCKY AS HECK, I beat him with two comebacks on the second and (because he's a douche like that) Obligatory Zankuro Extra Round.
Slash Ukyo... one time, I won without using any continues for that whole game... I'm a Ukyo user first, Hanzo second...
(Emulator) Slash Haomaru... not lying here... almost 40 times it took me to beat him.

And got butthurt using Shizumaru, Nakoruru, Rimururu, and freaken Gaira.

Hate that dude... I thank SNK for at least decreasing the difficulty with their SamSho bosses... besides SS5 Special with the gauntlet of bosses I didn't want to see again.
So this.... this is the beginning of something awesome!
